Steve and Danny nuzzled together under a sleeping bag, with Danny's nestled into Steve's shoulder. Both of them were beat, dozing on and off in each others company. Steve was trying to not think about tomorrow and when Danny would leave, but it was hard not to. What they shared together brought them closer than ever before, and Steve wasn't sure that he could give that up so soon. Feeling Danny next to him though erased any of those worries, as he realized what he had now was the most important.
Later into the night, after having rested, the two lay side by side, their noses almost touching. Danny rubbed Steve's chest gently as they talked. Steve had a wondering look on his face.
"What's up?" Danny asked softly.
"Oh it's nothing, I was just thinking about what it would be like if you could stay on the island."
Danny thought about it too, "We could go to the beach all the time and hang out with everyone. It would be nice."
"Yeah and play truth or dare, you know how well that went last time," Steve joked.
"Wow. Truth or dare? I couldn't believe that's what you were trying to do that day. It was terrifying. I thought you would hate me if you found out that I liked you" Danny said honestly.
"I was terrified about telling you too. That was the only way I could do."
"Yeah, an easy way for you. I had to do all the confessing."
"I got in the water remember?" Steve joked.
"Oh yeah that's exactly the same, and hey I did that too you know." Danny said sarcastically.
"Yeah and you were more worried about your hair than anything else," Steve said and poked his tongue out.
Danny playfully hit Steve on the chest, before running his fingers through his hair, confirming Steve's assumption.
Steve ruffled Danny's hair, making sure he messed it up. they both laughed as they fought each other, Danny trying to get Steve to stop playing with his hair. Danny ended up on top of Steve, their chests heaving together from their light playing.
Danny looked at Steve and then planted a soft yet tender kiss on Steve's plump lips, still raw from all the kissing earlier. Danny kissed Steve's neck while moving Steve's arms above his head and made sure they stayed that way.
Danny could feel his hard on against Steve's. He stopped his kisses and looked at Steve with a cheeky grin.
"Want to go again?" Danny asked.
"I suppose we should," Steve joked.
"You suppose we should? Come on. Let me take the lead this time, I'll show you a thing or two," Danny replied, moving himself closer to Steve, so their hard ons were very close together.
"Oh will you now, I'd like to see that," Steve replied, very eager to see what Danny had in store.
Steve awoke the next morning as the sun started to shine through the tent flaps. He rolled over and looked at Danny, peacefully asleep. He never thought he would be so content than he was at that very moment. He could really get use to this, if only, he thought to himself.
Steve stretched and slowly got up, not wanting to wake Danny. He put on some shorts and left the tent. It was a nice morning, the air was clean and fresh, refreshing on Steve's face.
Chin was sitting on the porch having his morning coffee. He grinned as he saw Steve manage his way out of the tent.
"Didn't sleep much last night huh?" Chin said to Steve with a grin.
Steve noticed Chin and headed up to him. He felt like he should feel embarrassed about Chin's assumptions, but what he and Danny shared last night was special and he wasn't afraid to show it.
"Yeah something like that!"
Chin poured a cup of coffee for Steve as he sat down next to him.
"So does Danny leave today?" Chin asked.
"Yeah tonight. I'm trying not to think about it, just gotta make sure that we have a great last day together," Steve said, happy with himself for remaining positive about it all.
"I think it all could be okay, it could work out. Doris might have changed her mind," Chin said.
"I doubt it. By the way she reacted yesterday I'm not even sure if she will talk to me again."
Chin sighed, he didn't know what to say.
"I sound like a whinging teenager don't I?" Steve joked.
Chin could help but laugh, "Yeah just a little bit."
Steve snickered and finished off his coffee.
"I better go wake Danny up, I guess we should head back and face everything." Steve said and stood up, handing his empty mug to Chin.
"Alright, I'll catch up with you guys later, come see Danny."
Steve trundled back over to the tent.
"Steve it will be alright, trust me," Chin said, not telling the whole story.
Steve turned back at Chin and managed a smile, he couldn't see that happening.
Steve and Danny arrived back at their houses, and parked for a while. Steve noticed that his Dad's car was parked in his driveway. Must be collecting more things he thought. Danny's Mom was outside, helping removal men with the move. Marie saw the boys and waved them over.
"Hi Sweetheart, how was your night?" she asked.
Danny avoided looking at Steve so he wouldn't go pink in he cheek, "Yeah it was good."
"Sorry to interrupt you guys but Danny I need you to finish packing up your room, it will be the last thing that goes in the truck," Marie asked and went back inside in the house.
Danny looked at Steve, almost not wanting to leave his side.
"It's alright, I'll come by and see you soon, I better see why Dad is here," Steve said.
Danny kissed Steve before going in for a tight hug.
As Steve approached his front door, he could hear yelling, like usual. He entered and could hear that they were fighting out on the patio, where everyone could hear. Mary Ann came out of her bedroom, exhausted.
"They've been yelling for a while now. It started out okay but now Dad is really telling her. I'm so glad you're here," Mary Ann said and went in for a much needed hug.
Steve tried to make out what they were yelling about, but couldn't make sense of of it.
"What is it now? Is Dad going for good?" Steve asked, still hugging his sister.
Mary Ann pulled away so she could look at Steve, "No they are fighting about you. And Danny."
Steve put his arm around Mary Ann as she lead them into the kitchen. They stayed back so their parents couldn't see them, but now they could hear much better.
"Look I've already said no, how many more times can I say it?" Doris said.
John looked more determined and animated in this fight, like he wasn't ready to back down any time soon.
"Are you going to keep doing this? Pushing him away from you? He has had to put up with a lot of bullshit because of you and me, why can't you give him what he wants for a change?"
"I'm not having those two living in my house, being together, I don't want it."
All the feelings of anger Steve was feeling yesterday were coming back to him, he squeezed Mary Ann's shoulder to comfort himself.
"Oh get over it Doris, your son is gay, who cares. As long as he happy and safe, that's all you should worry about."
Steve widened his eyes and looked at Mary Ann. She grinned, proud of her Dad and of Steve. Steve couldn't help but grin back, he couldn't wait to hear what Doris had to say to that.
"But it needs to..." Doris tried to reply before being cut off by John.
"Look that's it Doris, I've tried to stay away from this, but not anymore, not when you are doing this to the kids. Here is what's going to happen, Danny can live here, I'm moving back in, and everything will be fine. Don't try and get out of it Doris, we are a family, we all need to stay together, Danny included," John rightly put.
Doris looked speechless, for the first time in a while. John was making amends and doing it for all the right reasons, you had to give him that.
Steve pushed he and Mary Ann outside to make their parents know that they had heard everything. The look on both Steve and Mary Ann's faces were all that Doris needed to see. They both looked so happy and carefree, especially Steve. And if that's all it took to make her family whole again, Doris would just had to make peace.
"Steve I'm sorry," Doris said and gave Steve an awkward yet loving hug.
The hug took Steve by surprise, he stared at Mary Ann in case he needed her. This day was getting memorable.
"I'll go talk to Marie and Danny myself. I'm still not a hundred per cent okay about this..."
John, Mary Ann and Steve both gave Doris a knowing look midway through her sentence, allowing her to finish it off differently.
"...but Steve honey and you too Mary Ann, you know I've always tried to make you guys happy and safe, I guess just not enough."
Steve smiled at his Mom as she walked over to Danny's. Wonder how Danny will react to this Steve thought to himself. Mary Ann gave him and John a hug before going back inside, leaving Steve and his Dad alone.
"I don't know what to say," Steve said honestly.
"You don't have to say anything son," John said, practically beaming.
"Wait, how did you know about me and Danny?"
"Chin told me last night. He came into work looking upset. I'm glad he told me, otherwise who knew what would have happened."
Steve thought about earlier this morning when he was talking to Chin, he kept saying how everything was going to be right. And he was right.
"Thanks Dad, I don't know what else to say." Steve really didn't. He needed a long sit down to filter through what had just happened since he got home.
"Just make sure you tell me things son. I know I haven't been around much these past couple of months, but you are still my son. And I don't care what you do, or who you love, I'd just love if you share them with me, let me know what's going on in your life."
John looked more wiser than he had ever been. Steve respected him so much more now, to have someone to support you through anything, especially something like sexuality, made Steve grateful to have John as his father.
"Yes Dad, I can do that. So you are sticking around?"
"You bet. Go get your sister, we can go pass around the football or something," John asked.
Steve nodded, grinding as he walked inside to get Mary Ann.
Later that afternoon Steve and Danny lay together on the beach near the house. After all the chaos in the past couple of days, just lying in each others arms looking at the horizon was all that it took to make them happy.
Marie had accepted Doris' offer after confirming with her husband and the rest of her children back home. Danny couldn't believe it at first, it wasn't until Doris left and his Mom and him talked about everything that it hit him, he and Steve could finally be together. Instead of packing his stuff into the removal van he put it into Steve's bedroom. The bedroom was probably too small for the two of them and the amount of stuff they had between them, but that was the least of their worries.
"So what now?" Danny said, staring at the water.
Steve grinned before saying, "Truth or dare?"
Danny looked over to Steve and hit him hard on the shoulder, "Truth or dare? Are you serious?"
There it was, that look again, the look of bewilderment, confusion and cuteness all on Danny's face. Steve smiled sweetly at Danny before leaning in for a kiss.
"Oh no, not that easily," Danny said, beginning to wrestle Steve, making sure he worked hard for that kiss.
They rolled around in the sand, holding each others hands and arms away from each other, both trying to win. Win what, neither of them knew. Danny managed to get on top of Steve and pin him to the ground, with his legs wrapped around Steve's face.
"I win," Danny said, gloating, with his arms up in the air in victory.
Steve caught Danny off guard and pulled him out of his victory and in for a kiss. Steve nibbled on Danny's bottom lip, slowly gaining entry into Danny's mouth with his tongue. Things could have gotten heavier, but the two of them heard people coming. Danny moved back up, but stayed sitting on top of Steve.
Chin, Catherine, Kono, and Mary Ann all came running down to the shore to be with them.
Kono whistled at them as she saw how they were positioned. Her and Mary Ann ran straight for Danny and tackled him off Steve, so glad that he was allowed to stay now.
Steve sat up and looked at Chin, he smiled and looked eternally thankful. Chin laughed and shrugged his shoulders, "I'm pretty good, aren't I?" Chin joked.
Catherine and Chin sat down next to Steve. Catherine gave Steve a big hug, one that lasted a long time. She was just glad to see everything in Steve's life going so smoothly for once. And it was.
Steve looked over at Danny, who was barely able to contain the two giggling girls tackling him. Danny managed to shoot a look over towards Steve and smiled at him.
There you go, all finished. What do you guys think? Maybe one day I might write a sequel or something. I thought about this story a lot, so who knows. Thanks :)
