Chapter 13 – Shabbat Shalom
Coming out of the gym
Ziva opened her car door and pointed the gun inside, to reveal that her father was sitting inside. She lowered her weapon and sighed.
"No kiss for your father?" Eli asked.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Come, let's go for a drive," Eli suggested and Ziva sighed and turned around and grabbed her gym bag.
She had told Tony she would be home fifteen minutes from now and she wasn't sure now what was going to happen, but she needed to message him and get it straight. Ziva got into the car and closed the door and noticed that he had started the car without a key. She put the key into the ignition and turned it. It stayed running.
"Where would you like me to drive?" Ziva asked.
"How about your apartment?" Eli asked.
"I do not have one anymore," Ziva said, shooting him an angry glance.
"Then, let us walk around," Eli said quietly. Ziva drove off angrily and a little too fast without saying anything. "Now, tell me, what do you mean you do not have an apartment anymore?"
"I am living with someone," Ziva said quietly. "Rather, I have a roommate. It is more efficient this way."
They were silent the rest of the ride and then parked and walked silently for a while.
"Some day you must give me a proper tour of your city. Perhaps when it is warmer," Eli said as they walked slowly.
"Where is your protection? They have usually given themselves away by now," Ziva said, straight to business, trying to ignore all of the personal things she should want to share with her father.
"That is why they do not know I am in the country," Eli said with a smile as they stopped. "No one knows."
"You're the director of Mossad, Abba, that is impossible," Ziva said, shaking her head while Eli laughed at her statement.
"Ziva, nothing is impossible, only difficult," Eli explained to her
"Which makes this officially the stupidest thing you've ever done," Ziva said seriously, "which is saying something. Don't you remember the last time you were here?"
"Yes, you said sometimes life surprises you. Surprise," Eli said happily.
"What is your business here?" Ziva asked, not buying it. She didn't think that Eli could possibly want to come just to visit her, since he never came without some other motive behind his arrival in a certain place. That just wasn't the way that Eli David had ever worked.
"My daughter has made no effort to visit me over the last two years, so I must go to her," Eli said. "I am here for you, Ziva."
"How long have you been here?" Ziva asked.
"I arrived this morning, but waited until I knew you were alone," Eli said.
"What if someone saw you?" Ziva asked, now worrying for the fact that he had no protection and he was the director of Mossad.
"At your gym?"
"At all," Ziva said sternly. "Surely you still have enemies that want you dead?"
"You think?" Eli said and laughed. "Ziva, I do not walk straight lines. As your Agent Gibbs would say, this is not my first radio."
"Rodeo," Ziva corrected. "You could have at least called."
"I did not want to be refused," Eli argued.
"There's no other reason for you visit?" Ziva asked.
"I promise you, my intentions are honorable," Eli said quietly. "No one will know I was here. Now I have answered all of your questions."
"No," Ziva said quietly. "Where will you stay?"
"With you and your roommate," Eli said happily. "That will have to do. I cannot check into a hotel." Then, he spoke in Hebrew, asking for a hug from Ziva and she gave it quietly.
"Excuse me, I must call my… um… roommate," Ziva said quietly and walked away from her father and pulled out her phone, noticing that she already had a missed call from Tony from only a few minutes ago. He was probably worrying.
The phone rang in against her ear on the other end and she waited.
"Ziva, where are you?"
"I cannot talk much now," Ziva said quietly into the phone. "My father is in town and he wishes to stay with me and my… um… roommate were his words."
"Oh," Tony said through the phone. "As long as he doesn't mind sleeping on the couch."
"I shall ask," Ziva said quietly. "And he says nobody is to know that he is here. So, you cannot tell anyone about this."
"Of course, but will you tell Gibbs?" Tony asked.
"Of course," Ziva said quietly. "How could I avoid it?"
"You could, you're a ninja," Tony said.
"I will see you soon," Ziva said quietly and hung up the phone, closing her eyes for a moment and wondering how this was going to work out. She turned around and walked back over to her father. "You are going to have to sleep on the couch."
"That will have to do," Eli said quietly and walked with Ziva back to the car.
