Ch.11- Part 1

Blizzardmoon woke to the sound of arguing.

"I'm going to catch the biggest squirrel," Sunkit boasted.

Bonekit rolled his eyes, "Don't flatter yourself."

"Well that's a rude thing for a boy to say!" Sunkit scolded, "You'll never get a she-cat to like you if you act like that!"

"Whatever."

Sunkit started licking her white paws clean; if they could get any cleaner, "Did you name your paws?"

"No way!" Bonekit shrieked.

"Well, I'll name them for you, how about; Grosspaw, Uglypaw, Strangepaw, and Dumbpaw?" Sunkit giggled.

"Sure…" Bonekit sarcastically added, "And we'll rename 'Perfectpaw' Girlypaw and 'Frostpaw' Pooppaw."

Blizzardmoon intervened, "Stop, Sunkit, Bonekit, NO name calling. Bonekit, I will not have that kind of language in my den! Now, both of you get ready, because we're going to go hunting this morning."

Both of the kits jumped in joy and quickly followed their mother out of the den.

"Now, we're doing partner hunting," Blizzardmoon explained, "Do you both remember how to scent?"

"Yes, ma'am" Bonekit meowed.

"I remembered more than he did," Sunkit added.

"Sunkit!" Blizzardmoon rebuked, "Well, what do you both smell?"

"Mo-" Bonekit was interrupted by his sister.

"Squirrel," Sunkit stated.

Blizzardmoon narrowed her eyes, "Wrong, Sunkit, it's actually mouse. Which direction is it?"

"North?" Sunkit asked.

"That is correct," Blizzardmoon smiled, "Now, I'm going to hide up in the trees and I want you both to work together to try to capture it and kill it."

"Easy," Sunkit smirked, running towards the direction of the scent.

Bonekit frowned, dropped down into a hunting crouch, and followed her, "Sunkit, keep down! It will hear you!"

"What do you know?" Sunkit hissed and dropped down into a hunting crouch, "I was just about to, anyways."

Bonekit rolled his eyes, "Come on, and follow me."

"No, you follow me," she replied, taking the lead.

The little brown creature came into view, nibbling nuts that had fallen off of the tall oak.

"I'll go around and scare it towards you," Bonekit whispered.

"No, I'll scare it towards you, why do you always take the fun parts?" Sunkit shot back.

"Fine."

Sunkit stalked to the back of the mouse and ran full bore on it. The little creature squealed and ran sideways, away from the two kits. Sunkit attempted to stop, but plowed head first into Bonekit.

"What was that?" their mother's voice called.

They both looked up; Blizzardmoon towered over them, the body of the limp mouse in her jaws, "You need to learn to slow down and work together. All this noise scarred all the prey for miles, we're done for today, Cloudwhisker, Rainkit, Mosskit, and you, Bonekit, will go out later once all the prey is out of their holes."

"What about me?" Sunkit whined.

"You're grounded. You need to let somebody else have some say once in a while," the white she-cat turned towards the direction of the den, "Now, come along. Tomorrow maybe I can take you and Rainkit out hunting."

Sunkit grunted before following her mother and brother back to the den. As they neared the den the fur on Blizzardmoon's shoulders rose.

"Both of you; stay beside me," she unsheathed her claws and yowled, "Cloudwhisker!"

They reached the den, Cloudwhisker came out looking confused.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Scent… air," Blizzardmoon panted.

Cloudwhisker's eyes lit up with alarm, "Bonekit, Sunkit, get into that den right now and tell the others to not move a muscle and get into the nest."

The two kits quickly disappeared. Both of the siblings squared up, blocking the den entrance as a big russet creature came tumbling out of the bush, its muzzle narrowed and teeth bared.

What is that? Did I ever hear anything about it before? Wait… Blueheart told us a story about one; before we were born it killed a warrior and three of the kits. What did he call it? A fisher; more hostile than a raccoon, it drags its prey away and whatever falls to it is never seen again…

"Cloudwhisker," she whispered.

"Yeah?" he replied.

"Remember to keep your balance," Blizzardmoon leaped onto the creature, tearing into its scruff.

It reared up and with a massive paw ripped her off and threw her onto the soft ground. Cloudwhisker now confronted it, sending several well-aimed swipes into its face. It backed up and charged him; he leaped out of the way in fright.

"IT CHARGES?" he screeched.

"And I'll charge right back!" Blizzardmoon got to her paws and ran towards it, using all her speed.

It immediately charged her and the two meant in an epic match of swipes, claws, and teeth.

"Momma!" a cry came from the den.

"Stay back," Cloudwhisker ordered the kits, who had all lined up at the entrance to watch.

Quickly he plunged into the battle alongside his sister and took a swipe to the head before delivering one back. The fisher cowered, blood loss slowly weakening it. The two warriors sent a series of swipes at its chest and head and it collapsed. As swiftly as a snake, Blizzardmoon swept down and finished its life.

It wouldn't hurt the kits; it's better that way. It wasn't backing away like a fox or a badger once it was defeated…. it was the one who wanted to battle to the death.

"That was… amazing!" Rainkit's excited meow jolted Blizzardmoon out of her thoughts, "Why did I ever want to become a medicine cat? I'm going to be the best warrior ever!"

A/N: Yes, there is really a predator named a Fisher. It looks like a huge russet ferret... you can look up pictures if you want to. One dragged away and killed all the chickens at the place I go horseback riding at, it even got the really pretty rooster... :(

Please review! I really appreciate them! Hmm... can I at least get two reviewers to answer the following question before I post the next part?

Q: Would you take the path of a warrior or medicine cat?

a) warrior

b) medicine cat
