A/N: ah I hate making characters ooc, but this is for dramatic effect! Yeah right. Well, I apologize for OOC and for how long it took me to write this.
"Haru!"
Makoto stared down at the body, horrified. When Haruka hit the ground after shooting himself, the gun clattered to the ground in the pool of the swimmer's blood, making it splatter. Haruka's clothes were damp with the fluid, and it made Makoto sick.
"Game over! You win!" The demon hopped on a desk cheerfully.
"Haru!" Makoto ran over to the body and shook it desperately. "This wasn't supposed to happen! We were supposed to make it out of here together! We should all be swimming together! Haru you promised!" He screamed. "Idiot! Idiot!" He started to hit the limp body. "Idiot! We were going to do so many things when we got out alive together! We were supposed to go to the park, the pool, even to school!" Makoto's head fell.
"I was supposed to tell you I loved you."
His blood-stained hand slapped his own face. "Now I can't even do that." He whispered under his breath.
The demon sighed. "If you loved him, why did you 'have fun' with the picture of that girl?" It sat on the desk now.
Makoto wanted to collapse he was so miserable. "I don't know."
"It was because she was dead and there was a picture right? This one wasn't dead, so there was no picture. She was the closest you'd get to him." There was a teasing tone to his voice.
The brunette's head bowed lower. "Heh." He didn't deny it.
"I know your dirty secret. You want to do it, but you'd feel horrible if you did. Well he's dead now, so fill your dirty mind." It cackled.
The silence that followed was sickening.
It would make him feel awful yet it would be thrilling at the same time, but it would be disrespectful to Haruka's body, wouldn't it? But since he's dead, there would be no harm done, right?
Makoto just wanted to die he felt so horrible deciding.
Makoto glided through the water so easily, forgetting his problems. He had forgotten this was the place that a murder happened, forgetting that he was in a twisted place.
His muscles were still relaxed from the previous hour. He couldn't help himself. The lust overcame him, making him violate Haruka's dead body.
The demon had told him afterword that it would be fine, that Haruka was dead and wouldn't care. But Makoto felt so bad that he just didn't clean himself up of bodily fluids, but he cleaned Haruka's body too. No matter how great the feeling was at the moment, the guilt that followed would haunt Makoto for the rest of his mortal life.
He floated on his back, letting the cool water drift him anywhere. 'It's kinda funny, being in something that can kill you. It's funny, the coward still lives.' Makoto thought. 'I'm scum. I just need to die. I've violated Kou and Haru. How can I live with myself?' He made his way over to the side of the pool.
When he got out, he took his swimsuit off and put his clean clothes on. He glanced up to see the large covered windows. Makoto sighed and dried his hair. He would be free by the end of the night. He would be able to tell everyone just how wonderful his friends were, that they weren't murders, but driven insane by a supernatural and demonic force. He'd tell his children about how brave his friends were, and how they were the bravest people he knew.
Makoto would not let the 8 deceased be forgotten.
He dropped the towel and grabbed his bag. It was filled with the pictures of the deceased, along with their jackets or keepsakes. He would give it to their families and tell them how brave they were. No, Makoto would tell the entire world of how much courage they showed; all of them fought, despite giving in.
Haruka struggled to keep everyone positive. Nagisa fought against his insanity, trying not to snap. Rei fought with love, trying to keep Nagisa with him. Gou fought with her depression. Miss Amakata fought with fear, afraid of disappointing everyone. Mikoshiba fought with protectiveness, knowing he won't be able to protect everyone. Rin fought with anger, trying to keep it down. Nitori fought with trust, believing in Rin until the very end. Makoto, though? He fought against his fear and lust, afraid of losing his friends and giving into his desires. In the end, they all lost but fought their hardest.
Makoto laughed and walked out the door. Even though it wasn't his school, he knew it would be the home of his fears, worries, and the death of his friends.
He walked down the hall; the windows still covered, and looked at the front door. "Congratulations! You've graduated!" The P.A. came on, the demon's voice ringing around the hallway.
Makoto looked back. He didn't know what happened to his friends' bodies, but the demon told him they were in the right place. Makoto found it funny to depend on a demon to help him.
He put his shaking hand on the handle, afraid. He was panting, horrified to open it. What would be on the opposite side?
The light blinded him, and the fresh air hit him suddenly. It took him a minute to open his eyes, but when he did he noticed the door had closed behind him. It was locked. Seeing the outside world, the light, was shocking and Makoto couldn't take it all in.
He walked down the steps, noticing a man standing there, probably a janitor. The man approached him. "Are you a student here? There's no school today, you know that, right?" He said, voice rocky.
Makoto smiled. "N-no. I'm a student at Iwatobi. I just wanted to look at the pool through the window." He said, walking away quickly, bag in hand. He needed to get to the police station and him home.
He looked up at the big school, his haunted home, and grinned.
"Goodbye forever." He pulled out a salt tablet and water bottle from his bag, mixed them, and walked to the property line. He poured the water onto the ground and smiled. "Now you won't be murdering anyone else, you bastard."
He dropped the bottle and started to walk away.
Makoto and his friends' spirits were free.
