Oliver walked into Queen Consolidated with confidence. Or at least trying not to appear nervous. He had taken Thea's advice, he wore a casual green shirt with normal black pants. He didn't want to appear to be trying too hard.
He had to stop over thinking this. Oliver tried to remember that he was good at dating, plus he and Felicity enjoyed spending time together, this was no big deal.
Felicity was almost done work for the day. She was completely focused on the task at hand, it was the only way she didn't freak out about what to do. What was she was supposed to wear? How was she supposed to act? Work was the only thinking keeping her mind calm.
As Oliver walked through the building he kept getting looks. He was used to them, every time he entered a building, people always did a double check. Even if it was a building of people, who should be used to seeing him.
Oliver didn't realize this new interest was due to a talkative pizza boy, he had told all his friends about Oliver Queen's new girlfriend, and they told everyone they knew, and before they knew it, major gossip magazines, and websites were running the story.
Felicity heard the knock. Noooo, she thought, please not someone with more work. She was ready to leave.
"Damn it! Fine come in." Felicity said in a defeated tone. She could only hope it was a small task.
"Nice to see you to Felicity." Oliver said with a smile in his voice. He was much more relaxed when he saw Felicity.
"Oliver!" Felicity exclaimed. "I thought you were someone bringing me more work."
"Nope, just waiting till you are free." Oliver said calmly. He was in no rush to leave, he had only come because he wanted to see Felicity as soon as possible.
"Well I just have to finish up this report, and then I will be good to go." Felicity said. "I thought you would meet me at my place, so you know I could get ready and stuff, though you neglected to tell me where we are going, so I don't really know how to dress-"
"I'm just going to sit here," Oliver motioned to the chair. "And what you're wearing is fine. In fact you look beautiful."
"Ok" Felicity said, "Um...thanks...you look awesome as usual."
Oliver smiled and sat down.
Felicity turned back to her many monitors, she was now feeling self-conscious. That was stupid. Oliver had seen her work before. Anyways why the hell should she feel self-conscious, this was the place where Felicity felt most confident. She turned her screen back on, feeling a lot better.
"It will only take a second, so where are we going?" Felicity asked. She was really curious. She had no clue what to expect with Oliver.
"You'll see" Oliver said cryptically.
Felicity looked up from her screen to glare at Oliver.
It made Oliver smile even wider.
"It would be polite to tell me where we are going." Felicity reasoned.
"Who said I was polite?" Oliver responded.
Felicity glared harder.
"You should finish up, or it won't matter where we are going," Oliver said.
Fine, Felicity thought be cryptic. It's not like it will bother me. Felicity was totally good at being in the moment.
Oliver enjoyed seeing Felicity get rattled. He knew the curiosity was killing her.
The door swung upon. "Hey Felicity some of us are going to get drinks..." Felicity's co-worker Chuck came in, and did a triple take when he saw Oliver sitting there. He had read the tabloid reports, Oliver Queen was always big gossip news at Queen Consolidated, but he hadn't believed the thing about Felicity actually dating him. "And we were wondering...if you...wanted to come, that is if you don't have other plans."
"Ya I have other plans." Felicity said casually, while not taking her eyes off the screen. There was no reason to feel weird. She wasn't doing anything wrong. She and Oliver were adults, who liked each other. It was as simple as that. At least that was what Felicity kept telling herself.
Oliver just sat there watching the exchange. It was amusing how uncomfortable Chuck was.
"Alright then...see you tomorrow...have fun, bye" Chuck said as he exited the room.
"Bye Chuck." Oliver said. He chuckled when the door closed.
"You make him nervous Oliver." Felicity explained.
"Why?" Oliver asked. "I don't know him."
"But he knows you." Felicity sighed. "You are a big deal at Queen Consolidated, plus you are famous and kind of cool. And the bosses son."
"I'll keep that in mind." Oliver said.
Felicity nodded, as she read over her work. "Kay I'm done, let's go." Felicity said as she logged off.
Felicity walked out from behind her desk and went to grab her purse. Oliver stood up, walked over and pulled her in for a long kiss.
"Alright, now I am ready to go." Oliver said, a little breathlessly.
"I just need a minute." Felicity said with a slight chuckle. "What was that? Not that I am complaining."
Oliver shrugged. "I wanted to do that since well the last time I kissed you, so I thought why not."
Felicity nodded, and grabbed her purse. "Definitely a good start to the date."
Oliver laughed. This felt good, nice, relaxing.
Felicity put her bag on her shoulder, grabbed her jacket and opened the door.
Oliver casually draped his arm over Felicity's shoulder. He knew that it was saying clearly that yes we are together. He thought it was more subtle than repeating what happened in the office. In his years in the public spot light, Oliver learned it was best to admit what was going on, because that way people move on. And Oliver wanted people to move on, as fast as possible.
Felicity leaned into Oliver.
As they walked out in front of people. It was clear that people noticed.
The whispers started.
Oliver noticed Felicity's eyes looking. She wasn't used to the attention.
"If they think it bothers you, they talk more." Oliver whispered.
Once out of the building.
There the worst it over." Oliver said kindly.
"It's just strange, I'm not used to people caring about what I do." Felicity stated.
"You never get used to it, you just get good at blocking it out." Oliver said as he started his car.
"So where are we going?" Felicity asked again.
"You have to wait and see." Oliver replied again.
"You are enjoying making me suffer." Felicity muttered.
Oliver didn't say anything, he just accelerated.
"Did I ever tell you that you drive like a crazy person?" Felicity mentioned.
"Nope, but really is this the craziest thing I do?" Oliver stated.
"Well when you measure in the grand scale of things no, but still you are a little nuts behind the wheel." Felicity said, just as Oliver made a sharp turn.
You did that on purpose." Felicity said, even with her seat belt she felt like she had just been swung around.
"Yup," Oliver said. "But here I will slow down."
"I didn't say I didn't like it, just that it was crazy." Felicity said. She kind of liked the speed, it made you feel more...alive.
Oliver laughed. This was why he liked spending time with Felicity, she would tell him that he was crazy, but she wouldn't judge him for it.
"We're almost there." Oliver promised.
Felicity looked out the window, they were going towards the pier.
"The pier?" Felicity questioned.
"Ya," Oliver said. "It used to be one of my favorite places in the city. Tommy and I would come as kids. My Dad would take me out on the boat. I haven't been here in a while. I thought it was time to go back."
"Sounds like fun." Felicity said. Felicity realized awhile meant that he hadn't been back since the Queen's gambit had set sail.
Oliver smiled he was glad that Felicity wasn't making a big deal about it.
When the dock came into view that was where the Queen's Gambit left port for the last time.
"Why was this your favorite spot, not like I don't know a bar?" Felicity asked.
Oliver got out of the car. Felicity did too.
"You always felt peaceful here. I just have a lot of good memories here, I don't want the one bad one to ruin it." Oliver stated. He and his dad shared so many good memories here. This was where he gave him all his important talks and showed him how to sail. If Oliver ever had a bad day this is where he would take him.
Felicity smiled, she was touched that Oliver brought her here.
"So what should we do?" Felicity asked, she hadn't spent much time at the Pier. All her favourite activities involved her staying indoors.
Oliver smiled, "do you know how to skip rocks? It's more relaxing than it sounds."
"No, I thought it would be best if I didn't throw things, I didn't want to hurt innocent people." Felicity said.
"Come on, I'll show you." Oliver said.
The two walked hand in hand to the water. Oliver picked up a rock, and helped Felicity aim it. She was better at it than she thought she would be.
Felicity had to agree it was relaxing, but her favorite part was Oliver helping her aim the rock.
The pair had fun being goofy. They walked along the pier until they went into a casual restaurant and sat down.
Felicity and Oliver asked each other stupid questions. Life what was their favorite movie, funniest childhood memory. They were getting to know each other. Like every normal couple.
Oliver didn't want to spoil the mood, but he didn't want anything to be standing in their way.
"You know Felicity I think I am pretty good at reading your moods and facial expressions." Oliver said.
"Really like when?" Felicity asked.
"I know when you squint that you are trying to solve an annoying problem" Oliver said. "I also know when something is troubling you."
Felicity had an idea of where this was going.
"Felicity, after... you had a look and I know it, something was bothering you. I can't help you solve the problem unless I know what it is. "Oliver stated.
Felicity knew that she had a minor freak.
"I may have over thought things but don't worry I'm over that." Felicity said casually.
"What were you freaking out about?" Oliver asked.
"Nothing, just you know what was going to happen what you thought." Felicity wished the conversation would end. She knew why it was bothering Oliver, but she didn't want to admit it, out loud.
"Felicity" Oliver said.
"Oh you know the whole what does this mean thing. Look Oliver you matter to me a lot, I just didn't want things to get weird." Felicity said softly.
Oliver realized he had the same fear. "I was worried about the same thing."
Felicity's eyes widened. "I never really thought of that."
"Well I think it isn't weird now." Oliver said softly.
Felicity smiled and nodded.
Oliver decided just to be honest with Felicity. "I just want you to know you matter… a lot…I was never good with words, but I never want to lose you either."
Felicity smiled. "You aren't going to lose me."
The pair felt a lot better about themselves and their relationship.
They knew where they stood with each other.
People had noticed the two of them. People had taken pictures, they had whispered, but the first time Felicity didn't care.
People could talk all forever for all Felicity cared, because nothing else mattered but her and Oliver.
In that moment Oliver and Felicity were happy, all the rumors be damned.
