Chapter 11: Epilogue

(Yuki Cross)

It had been five months since Nathan disappeared from Cross Academy. The entire school was talking about him, hearing loud crashes and animal sounds; one student even claimed to have seen a human sized wolf-like creature running from the school. The headmaster was trying to keep it all quiet, but somehow news crews from all around started reporting about the academy. Everything was to be kept a secret: the pureblood, the fight, Nathan. Now it seemed like he never even existed, an urban legend almost.

I was in the school cafeteria, eating my lunch silently with Zero. There was now a TV in the cafeteria, the news and weather currently being reported. One of the students shouted, "Hey guys it's on!" Everyone turned to the TV, and the volume was turned up by one of the students.

"In recent news, stories continue to be heard about what is now being called, 'The Monster of Mount Fuji'. Many locals in the area, mostly hikers, claim to have seen what looks to be an unidentified humanoid creature that feeds off of the local mountain wildlife. One local in particular has brought forth what appears to be new evidence in this case. Our on-site reporter, Akari Kageniri, has the details. Akari?"

The screen changed to show a reporter in front of a hut, with a farmer next to her. "I'm here at the base of Mt. Fuji with local farmer, Jounichi Takagowa, who has new evidence of this monster."

"Uh, yes. Please follow me." He led them to the back of the hut and showed them a dead mountain goat atop a crushed set of woven baskets. "I was working back here about two days ago, carrying baskets of grain into my house, when all of a sudden this crashes down right next to me."

He indicated the dead goat, which was slightly rotted. The reporter backed up, apparently from the smell, and the farmer continued, "I looked up at the mountain, and I saw a glimpse of something. I had no idea what it was, but it looked like a human with animal features."

I turned back to Zero, and whispered, "You don't think it could be..."

"If it is, we should probably inform the headmaster." We got up and hurried out of the cafeteria.

"What do you think the chances are that it's him?" I asked Zero.

"What do you think?." We finally made it to the headmaster's office and I knocked on the door.

"Come in." We entered and the first thing I saw was stacks upon stacks of papers. "Pardon the mess. Ever since Nathan disappeared, I've had letters, interview requests, all sorts of things coming in asking about the incident."

"Actually, that's why we're here. We think we might have found him."

The headmaster's head popped up over a stack of papers and said, "Nathan? You think you found him?" I nodded, and the headmaster disappeared under the piles of papers. "If you think you did, talk with Kaname. I'm a bit preoccupied at the moment."

Zero and I left the headmaster's office and I asked Zero, "Should we wait until the Night Class comes out for their classes to tell them?" Zero didn't respond, and I asked again.

"What do you think?" Zero asked, and I knew what he really meant.

"Then what are we waiting for? To Mount Fuji!"

(?)

*sniff* *sniff*

'It's close, another one.' My eyes peer over a craggy outcropping and I see my next victim. Even though it's night time, I can still see a large mountain goat, uncommon in this area. 'It'll do.' I wait for it to head my way and I pounce it faster than lightning, tearing out its throat so it can't cry out and give me away. I devour it quickly, wanting to move away before anyone can even notice me.

*sniff* *sniff*

A new scent, a human. No, two humans. The scents are familiar, like...no.

No, no, no.

My head whips around to see two hikers with very familiar faces. I abandon my meal and race away, disturbing some rocks which crumble and fall down the mountainside. I run faster and faster, only to slip and fall several times. I look over my shoulder and see that the hikers have noticed me and are starting to follow me. 'No, don't follow me. I'm a monster.' I stumbled over a loose rock and lost my footing, causing me to fall a few feet down the mountain side.

*sniff* *sniff*

A new scent. 'What now?' This wasn't a human, nor was it an animal. I figured out not only what the scent was, but also who it belonged to.

Kaname Kuran.

The realization stopped me in my tracks and I looked up. The pure blood was higher up than the others, and was descending fast. I had to get away, I was not willing to be captured by either party. I turned around and continued upward, trying to escape both of them.

*sniff* *sniff*

'Not another group.' I noticed the third group was very close and consisted of three people; Aido, Kain, and Souen. I had nowhere to go; even if I tried to jump away they could quickly move back around me.

"Nathan," I heard Kaname say, "don't try to run. We're not here to fight you." I turned to face him and roared at him, but he barely flinched.

"I know why you're here," I said, "I killed the pure blood. Don't think I don't know about vampire society and their laws. I quickly figured it out, and the worst possible crime is for a vampire to kill a pure blood. So I assume you're either here to take me in or kill me yourself."

"It's an option," I heard Zero say, followed by the click of his Bloody Rose gun.

"Then do it," I said, lowering my head, "get it over with already."

"Nathan." I turned slowly to see Yuki was right behind me, holding the gun.

I turned to face her fully and spread my arms wide, "Well, shoot me. Do it now, and be done with it." She was hesitating, and trembling a little. She pointed the gun at me, but didn't have the heart to pull the trigger. "What are you waiting for?" I asked, a bit annoyed. "Shoot me!" Yuki lowered the gun and shook her head.

"No! I won't do it! I won't shoot you!" I stepped forward and took the barrel of the gun. Yuki looked up at me as I pointed the gun straight at my heart and stepped forward until the barrel was pushing into my chest.

"Yuki, do it for me." Yuki shook her head as tears poured out of her eyes.

"I can't," she sobbed. "I won't do it. I love you too much, you're my brother!" Now it was my turn to shake my head.

"Ever since I escaped, I knew about what happened at the academy. I was declared dead, by most. That means I am no longer Nathan Kisuki Cross. Now, I am just Nathan Kisuki."

I leaned forward and quickly did what I had to do.

(Yuki Cross)

He kissed me. It wasn't on the cheek, nor was it on the forehead. It was right on the lips. My eyes grew wide and I tried to pull away, but it felt as though my body had gone numb. I heard the others give reactions in their own ways, but I cared little. What I did care about was that my brother, of all people, was kissing me.

Wait, no.

He wasn't my brother. Not anymore, at least. And we weren't even related by blood. Was this right? My thoughts melted away as I remembered the day I first saw him. He seemed so defenseless, so vulnerable, even though he was older than I was. Yes, this was okay. We weren't brother and sister anymore. We were complete strangers, just like when we first met.

My mind was jolted back to awareness by the loudest sound I had ever heard. Nathan pulled away, and I saw blood coming from his chest.

'What-What happened?' I noticed a few of his fingers pull away from the trigger, and I realized what he had done. He pushed my finger, the one that was on the trigger.

He cheated me.

I cried out as his body fell to the ground, lifeless. "Nathan!" I dropped to the ground and forced him to look at me. "Y-Y-You idiot!" I continued to swear and curse at him, but all he did was smile. I beat on his chest, continuing to curse him and pleading for him not to die.

"Yu-ki," he said. I stopped yelling and beating him when he said my name. He didn't say anything else, instead giving me a weak smile; the same one he gave me when I first saw him. Then, his eyes closed and his chest stopped moving. I shook him, but I already knew he was gone.

I couldn't hold it back anymore; tears flowed from my eyes and I wailed, crying out for the one I lost. I cried for quite some time before I felt Kaname's hand on my shoulder.

"Yuki, it's best we leave." I didn't want to leave, I didn't want to leave him here. But I had to. I stood, and we left him there. My heart felt broken and shattered, but at the same time whole and complete.

Nathan: What the heck was that!? You fricking killed me!?

*gunshot, Nathan drops to floor with bullet hole in forehead* Yes. *LOL face* That is another completed story folks, and good riddance to that one.

Nathan: I'm...still...here.

You're only still here because of me. And no, it's not because you have a sequel-which you don't.

So once again, R&R, PM and Goodbye to this story!
