Blood.
Blood was flowing through my veins, energy coursing through me as I drew the necessary life energy to sustain myself. Sensations danced across my nerves: the sounds of animals, the smell of the city, the feel of the concrete against my… human hands.
I raised my hands up, looking at them in amazement. It was the first time I had ever been in an actual human body… and it was so very different from my past body before my exile. My past body hadn't been so… fragile and sensitive like this human body was; hadn't been this… soft-fleshed thing…
Then, the feel of my power coursing through me brought further amazement. My old power was renewed and was flowing back into me, adapting to this human form. I could feel my senses enhancing; my muscles developing; my immune system strengthening, and so many more. Then, I could feel something unfamiliar and yet familiar at the same time.
My link.
Looking up at the boy, I saw that he was frozen. My power was flowing through the connection we now shared and was flowing into him, coursing through his veins to a much lesser degree than it was through mine. Even some of the life energy I had taken was now being added to his own, lengthening his life to the same amount of time mine was.
The memories that had coursed through me, fake memories, were most likely also embedding themselves into his brain. I could see it in his eyes; I could see him remembering someone he had never truly been with.
He would now see me as his elder twin sister…
"Sis, why are you sitting over here? We should get back to Mother and Father." The boy, no, Hideyoshi told me as he leaned forward, giving me a soft smile. His action was strange; in the demon world, smiles were only threatening or seductive… not… happy like the one he was giving me…
I stood up onto my feet, slowly and carefully as I was still getting used to this body. I took notice that I was wearing the same clothes as him; and when I spoke, my voice was close to his own. "We should." My power hadn't manifested much in my voice, but the aura of authority in it was still clear enough.
Hideyoshi took my hand, smiling at me all the time as we started walking back to where his… our parents were waiting for us. It was another strange thing to be holding hands, seeing as it seldom happened in my old world; but here, with him, I went along with it because it is what he wanted.
"Mother! Father!" Hideyoshi called out as we approached two adults, the female having long black hair and brown eyes while the male had about the same color hair as Hideyoshi and I with the same emerald eyes. Without even having needed to hear Hideyoshi call them, I knew at the first sight of them that they're our parents.
"Yuuko, Hideyoshi..." Our... mother said, moving forward and kneeling down in front of us. "Where did the two of you run off to? Didn't I tell you two to not go out of my eyesight? Well?" She asked, her voice authoritative... for a human. I was not intimidated in the least, even if she was glaring at the two of us. Hideyoshi, on the other hand, was shrinking back.
And so, my duty to my link begins...
"Mother, I saw something I wanted to see and I dragged Hideyoshi with me to look at it." I told her, my voice calm and steady as I looked straight into her eyes, not giving any ground of my own.
I was once a prideful, powerful demon, but now I am reduced to looking out for a human after being exiled. Not only that, but I was also reduced to a human's fragile body. But the body can be fixed up with my power to where the muscles are stronger and the bones are sturdier more so over time as I grow; and I... owed him, my brother, something for saving my life. If it meant looking out for him, I would do so for the rest of our lives, even if I didn't like it.
A demon's code of honor, or at least my very own.
"Yuuko, Hideyoshi," I turned my head, looking up at the brunette that was our father and narrowed my eyes, remembering how my own father had been, "be careful and stay close to us from now on, otherwise you'll make us worry." He told us, giving us a gentle smile as he did so.
I was a little taken aback by that, having not expected him to sound so... caring. My father never had uttered a single word that had sounded in the very least even a little bit caring; yet, this human... These humans... "Right..." I merely muttered, looking back at Hideyoshi to see how he was doing.
He wasn't so intimidated of our mother now that father had said his peace, and he even looked at me with that smile returning to his face. He mouthed the words, "thank you, sis" and his hold on my hand was a little firmer.
"Well, now that we've found you, let's go ahead and get home. I'm starving!" Our father exclaimed happily turning around and starting to march off energetically. Hideyoshi started forward at the same time as our mother, dragging me along with him. I went along without resistance, looking around at all three of the humans before me and wondering just how my life was going to be like now...
Now that I would be living with humans...
