Chapter Nine: Reality.
(Tris' POV)
A fortnight has passed since his death and it's starting to become a reality to me. I wake up every morning, feeling more alone that I could ever be. Tobias is hardly ever home, I don't even know where he is. Niyah is always in her room, listening to music, trying to shut the world away. I just try and pass time, hoping that tomorrow will be better than today, but it never is.
The murder case is developing. They have found some suspects, but most of them are ridiculous. They have found some fingerprints on Jake's body which match Tobias, so they decided to make him a suspect. But it's fucking ridiculous since of course Jake is going to have traces of his Father on him and everything.
The DI's who are in charge of the case are Tobias' mate, Evan and this woman named Diana. They've been helpful and kind, trying to support my husband and I. But it's hard. Everyone in Dauntless knows about his death. Actually, everyone in all the factions know about the murder.
Things are getting hard. I'm now almost 6 months into my pregnancy and I'm dealing with probably the greatest loss in my life...
I'm sitting at the table, sipping tea, deep in thoughts when the doorbell rings. I expect it to be Diana, since she always comes to visit me around this time in the morning, but I'm shocked when I open the door.
"Christina?"
She sighs and smiles at me sympathetically and pulls me in for a big hug, squeezing me tight.
"It's good to see you," She says softly when she comes inside. "I can't even tell you how sorry I am," She says as she sighs again and sits in the living room. "Lets have a good talk,"
(Christina's POV)
When Tris opened the door, I hardly recognised her. She's a ghost. Her skin is sickly and unhealthy, almost a grey tone. Her hair is limp and greasy; I can tell it hasn't been washed for at least a week. Her stomach is definitely a recognisable bump but it looks slightly on the small size, considering she's 6 months along.
Tris is a skinny person, but oh my god, she's skinny now. Her cheekbones are almost poking out of her ill looking face and her arms are bony and gangly. Oh Tris... What has happened to you?
(Tris' POV)
"Tris, when did you last wash? You stink," Christie complains as I do her a tea.
I shrug and sigh. "Maybe 6 days ago. I don't know,"
"Also," She adds. "When did you last eat. You're stick thin,"
I look at myself. "No I'm not. I'm putting on weight from the baby, I'm not loosing any,"
She stares at me with wide eyes. "Tris. You've lost a ton of weight. I'll repeat my last question. When did you last eat?"
I bite my lip and shrug. "I don't know. Last week or s-"
"Tris!" She almost screams. "You NEED to fucking eat! The baby won't be getting any nutrition! There could be a ton of damage... Oh Tris..." She sighs when she gets up. She heads to the fridge and gets out a chocolate bar. "Eat this,"
"No," I simply reply. I'm not hungry, I don't need food. How can she think I'm skinny!? I'm getting fat, not skinny.
"Eat. Now," She demands as she thrusts the chocolate by my face. The smell is just repulsive...
I shake my head and take a step back. "No. I'm not hungry. I'm fine,"
(Christina's POV)
How can she even say she is fine?! Oh god I think she's anorexic... She won't eat... I remember back to when one of my Candor friends was anorexic. They were very similar to how Tris is right now.
I sigh and put it down and I bring my hands to her bump. I look up at her and bite my lip. "Tris, you need to eat or your son will die,"
When her face crumples and she starts crying, I know I've said completely the wrong thing.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry. I didn't er, mean that... Ugh Tris, oh god," I say as I hug her tiny body tight.
She cries harder so I hold her and rock her tight. "Where's Four?" I ask softly. But when she cries even harder I bite my lip. Maybe they aren't getting on well at the moment? I sigh and look at her. "Tris, you need to start eating. You need to. Right, I'm so sorry but I need to head to work," I lie softly as I stop hugging her and head out the door.
The second I get out the door, I get my phone out of my pocket and dial Four as I head down the street. He picks up on the last ring.
"Christina?"
"Yeah, Four. Where the fucking hell are you?!" I almost shout.
"Er I'm at Georgia's... Why?"
I think before answering. Who's Georgia?
"Ok well when did you last see Tris?"
He hesitates but eventually answers. "Er... 5 days ago,"
I shake my head. "Oh my god you haven't seen her then. Where the hell have you been? She's literally starving herself!" I sigh and look at my painted nails.
Silence.
"Wait... What?" He whispers.
I sigh. "Right. We need to talk. Meet me at the local coffee shop in fifteen minutes," I say as I hang up.
