Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all the views and reviews! I know I don't usually update this as often as I have been lately. I've just been having some serious writing flow going on. It'll end soon though, believe me. I'm bound to hit writers block sooner or later. But, I won't stop writing, I promise. Things are about to get hectic in the upcoming chapters, so be patient. Stay cool! :)
It was Monday evening, and I was doing what any other teenage girl would be doing. I was on the computer.
I'd remembered about half-way through my outing with Hikaru and Kaoru that I had an assignment to take pictures of nature for class tomorrow. Thankfully, we were a park. And what was a better place to capture the beauty of nature than in a park? And, fortunately, the Hitachiin brothers agreed to help me. It was going pretty successfully until I put my camera down for one second to pull my sock back up and realized the two boys had taken it and decided to have their very own photo shoot. I had laughed at their goofiness, but went completely cold once they turned to lens towards me and started snapping pictures of me in the hideous Ouran uniform dress.
I shuddered at the embarrassing memory, but couldn't help but smile. They had given me an amusing experience; an experience that I would never forget. First, Haruhi, and now, the twins. What next? A weekend with Kyoya?
When I'd gotten home, I was bombarded with questions by my brothers and cousins. What did you guys do? Were they nice? Were they rude? Should we beat them up? I told them all about my outing. Why wouldn't I? I hadn't stepped foot out of our house unless I was going to school or going somewhere with a member of our family. They were dying to know the details. Although, I'd avoided Takashi's gaze deliberately. He was very protective, and a part of me felt bad for intruding in his group of friends.
Ouran is sure turning me, I pondered. And maybe it was for the better. Although I knew I would never overcome my social issues, I was becoming more and more brave as the days went by. I talked to people on a daily basis, I had friends, I had a family. Right now, life was looking pretty good. Hopefully it stays this way.
No, it won't. You'll screw everything up eventually. You always do.
I cringed at the menacing voice that invaded my mind. But, maybe-
No. It will happen; just wait.
I sighed, wiping quickly formed tears from my eyes with the sleeve of my sweatshirt. The voice was correct. I did mess a lot of things up without even trying. Eventually this would all come back to bite me in the butt, but couldn't I just enjoy it for now?
I'd finished uploading all of the pictures, shoving any bad thoughts to the back of my mind, and was now going through them all. Brightly coloured leaves captured mid-drift on their way from falling from the branches of the trees above them took over my screen and I couldn't help but marvel at the vibrant foliage. I continued on, stopping abruptly and my breath getting caught in my throat as I came across the first of the pictures the twins had taken. It was just one of them. Hikaru. He was grinning widely and waving at the camera, his one hand only a blur. I smiled to myself and went on. Picture after picture was nothing but the happy faces of the twins. I felt a blush fall over my cheeks but chose to ignore it, astonished at the attractiveness of their faces that I hadn't noticed before. Kaoru had faint freckles dotted on the bridge of his nose that could only be seen in a certain light, while Hikaru had long lashes that framed his eyes elegantly and shone amber in the sunlight.
I gulped loudly when I reached the pictures they had taken of me. I wasn't looking at the first one, my eyes were cast downward and my hands gripped the top of my sock. My breathing stopped momentarily. Was that really me? The girl in this picture had long, wavy hair that was as black as the night sky, and cascaded over her shoulders like a waterfall of ink. Her olive tone skin was an odd contrast against the mustard yellow dress, and her cheeks were as pink as chewed bubblegum.
In the next picture she was looking up innocently, her eyes wide and grey like rain clouds, seeing the camera pointed at her. Next she was angrily glaring at the the camera, a blur of an arm coming up shield her face and her mouth open in mid-yell.
The pictures after that were all the same; blurred shots of me trying to get out of the view of the camera. I stopped at the last picture, a smile slowly spreading over my lips. It was the three of us. After they had chased me with the camera, capturing my half-angry, half-frantic side, I eventually gave in and started to laugh, which was exactly what the picture was showing. It was me in between the two troublemakers, grins plastered on their faces as the squished a giggling me into a Hitachiin sandwich.
I printed off all the pictures, deciding to duplicate the picture of Kaoru, Hikaru and I to give to them as a thank-you for the fun evening tomorrow. I finished placing the pictures I needed for class in a small scrapbook and decided it was time for me to go to bed. I lied down and drifted off, reminiscing my afternoon.
Crap, crap, crap. I ran as fast as I could to Music Room 3, knowing I was going to be late. I pushed open the door, shutting it behind me and leaning on it, catching my breath.
I looked up to see the stunned faces of the hosts of the Host Club. "Oh, hey, Soymikou" Haruhi smiled kindly at me, waving a hand and walking toward the door and I. "I was actually looking for you earlier."
I looked up at Haruhi and waited for him to continue. "We never go the chance to finish working on our science project," he explained, "so do you want to do something after school sometime this week?" I nodded, a genuine smile coming over my face. Working with Haruhi had been fun, until the whole spying incident had occurred.
"Oh, Soymikou!" Tamaki yelled, approaching Haruhi and I. "There's something else coming up this week that you should also attend." He spoke as cheerfully as ever.
I raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to elaborate. But, to my surprise, Kyoya spoke instead. "We're going to be hosting an Autumn Fair on Friday after school." He pushed his glassed further up the bridge of his nose as he explained. "All the hosts will be attending, as well as their clients. You're more than welcome to join us."
It took almost all of my strength not to shudder at his words and run back out the door. "Uh-" I began, cutting my words short when an image, from the point of view of someone much shorter than I, showed crowd of bustling people, moving in every direction and blocking the view of anything else.
To my far right, Takashi stood suddenly, his eyes reflecting great concern. He knew. Of course he knew, he was my brother. Mitsukuni noticed as well, approaching me and taking a hold of my hand. "Soy-chan, it's okay." He said quietly enough so that no one else would here.
"Soymikou, do you not want to come?" My wide-eyed gaze went from my cousin to Tamaki, his face sad and disappointed.
If you don't go they're going to be angry. They'll be disappointed in you. They won't want to be your friends anymore.
I squeezed my eyes shut tightly, grimacing. No, I can't go. Last time-
Last time was completely different. That won't happen again...if you don't wander off.
"Soymikou?" Mitsukuni said quietly, giving my hand a slight squeeze. I wanted to answer, but I could barely hear him over the sound of my own fast and heavy breathing.
You have to go or else they'll hate you.
I didn't know what to do.
After taking a deep breath, I reopened my eyes. I removed my hand from my cousin's and placed it on my forehead. "Sorry, I have a huge headache." I lied. "I'd love to come to your fair." Kyoya nodded, writing something down in the notebook that seems to never leave his grasp.
Around me, I was receiving odd looks from the hosts. Tamaki shrugged my behaviour off, as well as Haruhi and the twins. I didn't dare look at Takashi.
Mitsukuni grabbed my forearms lightly. "You don't have to- you shouldn't-"
I gazed back sternly into his large, brown eyes. "I'll be fine." I smiled at him reassuringly, even though I was completely terrified.
I swiftly released myself from his grip, walking away before he could crack my shell. I hurriedly ran towards the twins, pulling them aside before my brother could question me. "Hey!" They both exclaimed.
They quickly smoothed down the wrinkles in their shirts, "What's up, Soymikou?" Hikaru asked me, slightly irritated.
"Yeah, we have to get ready. Guests will be showing up in less than ten minutes." Kaoru finished.
I looked down at my shoes, embarrassed. "Sorry, I-I just wanted to give you something" I apologized, a deep blush setting over my cheeks.
I looked back up to see the stunned expressions and tilted heads of the two brothers. "You''re giving us a gift?" Kaoru asked, sounding surprised.
Hikaru's eyes narrowed. "Is there a catch?"
I shook my head vigorously, pulling out the framed picture of the three of us from an easily accessible pocket in my bag and held out in front of me in the palm of my hand. I bowed my head, scared to see their reactions. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea. What if they don't like it?
A warm hand lightly touched mine, removing the frame from my hold.
"Hey, is that us? This is so cool!" Hikaru voiced happily. I looked back up, surprised to see grins plastered on their faces.
"No way!" Kaoru laughed, taking the frame in his grasp. "Soymikou, this is awesome."
"This is great." They said happily in sync, each giving me a thumbs up.
I grabbed a piece of my hair and twirled it between my fingers, looking away with flushed cheeks. "I'm glad you guys like it." I smiled, looking up at them through my lashes.
Without a warning, I was engulfed in their arms. "Thank you, thank you." They cooed into my hair, their lips grazing my head. If my cheeks weren't red enough before, now they were crimson. I hesitantly lifted my arms and hugged them back, thinking that even though I liked having a large amount of personal space, hugs weren't all that bad.
They released me, a little too soon for my liking, and patted my shoulders. "Well, we should probably go get changed." Hikaru sighed.
"Alright." I smiled. "Goodbye."
Hikaru turned, disappearing behind a door that I assumed led to the change rooms. Kaoru, however, remained. "This means a lot to us, Soymikou." He said, holding up the picture frame.
I smiled again, nodding.
Kaoru brought a hand up and placed it behind his neck. "And, I'm glad you're going to come to the fair. It'll be fun to hang out with you instead of our guests the whole time."
I wasn't completely sure what sound came out of my mouth after he said that. It was sort of a squeak that sounded like a meow. Either way, I didn't stick around long enough to see Kaoru's reaction to it. I ran out the door quickly, dialling my driver's number as I zigzagged through Ouran's hallways.
I had forgotten about the fair in less than five minutes even though is was going to be a huge issue for me. Why had I said yes? I brought a hand up to smack my forehead. Oh yeah, because I'm nuts.
