"Thanks, doc, I really think we made a breakthrough." I said.
"That's good. And remember, this is not a disease or disability. Your mind just thinks differently than others." Dr. Franklin said.
I was anxious to go home, finish my homework, and spend some quality time with Wes, Xavier, and Kylie. I really did think we broke a barrier, but I was also ready to leave. I try to make my appointments short, that way it's less likely that my friends would notice that I was gone.
Even though my last accident was last year, I still visit Dr. Franklin almost daily. And it's not like I ever harmed someone, I just have a slight mental mishap. But a far as the government is concerned, I'm "mentally disabled". How could I be mentally disabled if I get straight C's in school? But thank God Wes, Xavier, and Kylie don't know about my disability—er—"mental mishap". I don't think that we'd be the good friends we are today if they knew from the start.
Wes
I sat on my bed, building a spaceship with Lego's. Yes, it is kind of pathetic for a fourteen year-old to still use Lego's, but in my defense, the box says "ages 7-14". Soon the spaceship started looking a lot like Godzilla, and I stopped playing. I put my phone in my pocket and went downstairs to the living room.
"Mom," Janice Smith, my adopted mother of one year. "Dad," Andrew Smith, my adopted father of one year. "Is it ok if I go to the garden?"
Janice said. "Sure, Weston," I cringed at the name. "I'm sorry. Sure, Wes. Do you want me to come with you?"
"No thanks, Mom, I'll go alone." I headed towards the back door leading to the garden.
"Hey." Janice said. I turned around. "You called me 'Mom'."
"Huh. I guess I did." I said. I called them by their first names up until just now. "Well, I'll be in the garden." I left the awkward scene quickly. I buried myself into the plants. That always made me feel better, being in nature. And today, I felt just as good as I normally did when I started gardening. Actually, maybe even better than usual. But I paid it no mind.
Kylie
"And stay the frick away from us!" I yelled at some dumbass who tried to pick on Xavier.
Xavier stood up and dusted himself off. "Thanks, Ky. You saved my butt once again."
"No problem." I said.
"But," Xavier said. "You were a little hard on him."
"What? No I wasn't." I said.
"You kneed him in the crotch four times." Xavier said.
"Well next time something like this happens...?" I said.
"I want you to knee him in the crotch once, maybe twice." Xavier said.
"Well I'll hold back next time." I said.
"Thanks." Xavier said. "Hey, do you hear that?"
"Hear what?" I said.
"That...that voice." Xavier said.
"You must've hit your head pretty hard, 'cause the only thing I hear are birds." I said.
"No...there is definitely someone talking to me...and he's so loud." Xavier said.
"There isn't even anyone around to talk to you? Do you need to lie down?" I said.
"Follow me." Xavier said pulling my arm.
"Where?" I asked.
"Just...just follow me, ok?" Xavier said.
"Fine."
Randal
"Hey, X, what's up?" I said into my phone.
"Dude, you've got to see this." Xavier said.
"See what?" I asked.
Kylie must've taken the phone from Xavier. "Randy, Xavier led me to the craziest shit I've ever seen?"
"What is it?" I asked.
"It...its this...I-I don't know man, but it is awesome." Kylie said.
"Well now I want to see this thing. Where are you?"
"We're behind that diner where Wes almost got kicked out for bringing in that machine-pen-gun." Kylie said.
"I remember that place. I'll be there in a few minutes."
"And bring Wes, he'll want to see this...this thing too." Kylie said.
Wes
I was watering some of the vegetables I was growing, when I suddenly smelled smoke.
"Hey, Randy," I said without even looking at him. "What's up?"
"Apparently X and Kylie found 'the craziest shit'out behind that diner you almost got kicked out of." Randal said.
"And they want us to see it?" I asked.
"Yeah, apparently its so awesome that Kylie couldn't even describe it." Randal said.
"Well, as cool as that sounds, I'm kinda busy." I said.
"With what? Your garden?" Randal said.
"Yes." I said.
"Fine, dude. If you wanna go, you know where it is." Randal said.
"See ya." I said.
"Later, dude." Randal said.
Xavier
"Holy crap...what is it?" Kylie said.
"I have no idea." I said. "Can you hear that voice?"
"Yeah, I can hear it now." Kylie said.
"But there's no one around." I said.
"Should we touch it?" Kylie said.
"No!" the voice said.
"Ok, ok! I won't touch it." Kylie said.
In front of us was a glowing hole in the ground about a foot feet wide. The hole changed colors, from purple, to light blue, to brown, and to gray before the pattern restarted itself. When it was purple, an even darker purple star flashed on the hole. When it was blue, a white swirl flashed. When it was brown, a brown mountain flashed. When it was gray, a white skull flashed.
"Why do you think those Elemental symbols keep flashing by?" Kylie said.
"What?" I said.
"Elemental symbols. The skull represents the Undead Element, and the mountain represents the Earth Element. That voice told me that." Kylie said.
"Magic and Air." the voice said.
"The...the star represents the Magic Element...and the swirl represents the Air Element." I said
"How did you know that?" Kylie said.
"That voice told me." I said.
"Weird. We've both heard everything he said, except for what he just told us." Kylie said.
"Hey, where's the...what the f'ing hell is that?" Randal found us.
"We don't know." I said. "Hey, can you hear that voice?"
"Yeah, who is that?" Randal said.
"Again, we don't know." I said.
"Hey, hey, look! It's turning red and blue now." Kylie said.
The hole became red and a flame flashed. It then became blue and a teardrop flashed. The hole widened to about three feet, causing us to back away.
"Well those two must represent Fire and Water." Kylie said.
"Why is this voice telling me about Elements?" Randal said.
"We don't know." I said. "Hey where's Wes?"
Wes
"Weston." a voice said.
I dropped my hoe. That voice was neither my adopted mother nor father. "Who said that?"
"It is I, Master Eon." the voice said.
"Who?" I said.
"That is right, you are a human on Planet Earth, you do not know of me, but you will know all about Skylands soon enough." Master Eon said.
"What?" I said.
"All will be explained when you and your fellow Portal Masters make your first venture into Skylands." Master Eon said.
"I don't even know what...Skylands is or how to get there. Wait...why am I still talking to a voice?" I said.
"I am much more than a voice." Master Eon said. "I wish I could bring you all to Skylands personally, but alas, I must save my strength for the impending battle. Wes, I have opened a portal from Skylands to Planet Earth and Planet Earth to Skylands. Your friends and fellow Portal Masters have found it, but cannot activate it without your Elemental Powers."
"Wait, that weird thing Xavier and Kylie found? That's a portal to this...Skylands?" I asked, still unsure of why I was speaking to Master Eon.
"Yes. You must meet your friends to activate the Portal and fulfill your destiny. All of yours." Master Eon said.
"O...ok, I'll go." I said.
"Thank you, Wes. Your decision may have saved both of our Universes." Master Eon said.
Randal
"Wes is on the way." that voice said.
"Why did you want Wes to come here?" Kylie said.
"You guys can hear him, too?" I said.
"Yeah." Kylie said. "Why is Wes coming?"
"You will need to add his Elemental Powers to your own to activate the portal." the voice said.
"This thing is a portal? Where will it take us?" Kylie said.
"Skylands." the voice said.
"Skylands? No, that's impossible. Skylands is just a place I made up as a little kid." Xavier said.
"What's Skylands?" I asked.
"Skylands is a Universe composed of floating islands. Skylands is chained to another world, known as the Outlands, where evil things originate and are banished to. Skylands has lots of magic, which is replenished every century by the eruption of Mount Cloudbreak, there's a lot more about that, but I'll get into that later. All of those evil things in the Outlands are always trying to take over, but they are always defeated by the Skylanders. The Skylanders are creatures with special powers and weapons and become heroes dedicated to saving Skylands from evil forces. The Skylanders are commanded by the Portal Masters, human-like creatures who are born with Elemental Powers and the ability to use Portals, which can transport them through Skylands and in and out of other dimensions and Universes." I said.
"...How do you know that?" Randal asked.
"Xavier knows everything about Skylands and the Outlands." the voice said.
"And if what I think I happening, is really happening, you guys'll get your explanations once Wes get's here." Xavier said.
"I'm right here." Wes showed himself.
That portal the voice was talking about grew again, opening up to about five feet. The portal turned two new colors with two new symbols: Green and three leaves, and orange and a gear.
"What the heck is that?" Wes freaked out. "Is that the portal Master Eon was talking about?"
"Who?" I said.
"Master Eon is the name of the voice we're hearing." Xavier said.
"Now that you four are here, you can activate the portal." Master Eon said. The portal shone a bright white and all eight of the symbols we have seen appeared at once. "Wes, you will step on the Tech and Life Elemental symbols, Kylie you will step on the Earth and Undead Elemental symbols, Randal will step on the Fire and Water Elemental symbols, and Xavier..."
"I'm way ahead of you, Master Eon. Magic and Air." Xavier said. He stepped on the purple star and the baby blue swirl. Kylie stepped onto the brown mountain and the skull. Wes reluctantly stepped onto the gear and the leaves.
"Are you guys really going to do this? How do you even know if this is a portal?" I said.
"It's glowing like magic and we can all hear the same voice in our heads." Kylie said.
"C'mon, Randy. Don't you want to see what this Skylands is like?" Wes said.
"OK, say this really is a magic portal to another Universe, how do we know that this 'Master Eon' isn't going to kill us once we get there?"
"Master Eon would never kill us, and this portal isn't made from Dark Magic, so we know it's really him." Xavier said. "Trust me, I know everything about this stuff."
"...Fine!" I said. I stepped on the flame and the teardrop and we were all standing back to back.
Orange, blue, a lighter blue, green, purple, gray, brown, and red light began to swirl around us. Next thing I knew, I was about five feet in the air, and we all fell directly on our legs.
"Crap! Ah, my legs!" I said. "So much for Master Eon not hurting us!"
"There's a reason for why he transported us in the air." Xavier said. "He must be conserving as much of his energy as possible."
"Welcome, Weston, Randal, Kylie, and Xavier." I looked up and saw a really old guy standing at about seven feet tall. His skin wasn't wrinkled, but his hair was gray and he just seemed...old. He wore a blue robe and used a five foot tall staff with a crystal ball on the top as a cane.
"Master Eon...it all exists." Xavier said.
"Yes, welcome to Skylands!" Master Eon said.
Xavier
I made up Skylands when I was eight. It was just something that popped out of my imagination. But obviously, it was all real. That meant what Master Eon was about to say would change all of our lives.
"And now, I will tell you the Prophecy." Master Eon said.
"Master Eon," I said. "Could I tell the Prophecy?"
"Of course." Master Eon said.
"Do you remember what I told you about the Skylanders?" I said.
"No." Wes said, eyeing the giant Master Eon.
"Right, you weren't there. The Skylanders are the heroes that protect Skylands with their magical powers and weapons, lead by the Portal Masters. Well about three hundred years ago, all of the Portal Masters died, except Master Eon, who was young and had just mastered his powers. He took command of the Skylanders single handedly, and went down in history as the greatest Portal Master yet. But since there were no more Portal Masters, once Master Eon died, there would be no one left to lead the Skylanders. So, Master Eon visited a Oracle, who told him 'the Prophecy'. It goes like this:
Four Planet Earthlings will answer the call
And master the Elemental Powers they should not posess
And together they will use their powers in a final battle to start or prevent the fall
Save both worlds these Portal Masters will if they meet success
And if they fail, their powers will got to the Outlanders
They will be stripped of the powers they have spent so long to gain
Even the many forms of the Skylanders
And both worlds will perish in endless pain
"Whoa, dude." Kylie said. "That was intense."
"It is true. Four humans were born with the powers of a Portal Master, but humans were never supposed to obtain powers or weapons tied to Skylands. If they combined their powers, they could save both Planet Earth and Skylands from their impending doom. It will take much time, but they could unlock the infinite powers of the Skylanders, and fight a final battle. But if they failed, all their powers would be given to the enemy, and all hope would be lost."
"So why did you bring us here?" Wes asked.
"Don't you get it?" I said. "We are the Portal Masters! We're gonna take Master Eons place and save Skylands and Earth!"
"What? But we don't have those powers you were talking about." Randal said.
"Yes we do. We just haven't been able to use our actual powers because we haven't trained them, but we have the attributes. Wes has the Tech and Life Elemental powers. You actually are healed by nature and technology and building. Of course you haven't had any cuts or bruises healed by leaves, but you always say that you feel better when you're building or gardening. Kylie has the Earth and Undead Elemental powers. Earth is tough, like you, and you can't kill the Undead, kinda like you in a fight. Randal has the Fire and Water Elemental powers. You're a pyromaniac and you also love the ocean. You play with fire everyday, but you've never been burned, not once in your life. And I have the Magic and Air Elemental powers. Air is calm, like me, and Skylands is basically composed of Magic. It was my Magic Elemental power that let me have visions about Skylands and taught me so much about it." I said.
"Exactly right, Xavier. And today, we are being attacked." Master Eon said.
"Who's attacking you?" Kylie asked.
"Kaos. K-A-O-S, Kaos, the only other Portal Master besides Eon, and he's the commander of the Outlanders and master of the Darkness. He's been trying to take the powers of Eon and the Skylanders for about ten years, so he could turn Skylands into the Outlands." I said.
"Exactly. His flying fortress nears the Core of Light as we speak." Eon said.
"X?" Randal said.
"The Core of Light is composed of the sixteen Elemental Cores and Tools that come together and make a machine that emits an endless ray of light that keeps the Darkness at bay."
"And the Darkness is the only thing that can make Skylands the Outlands." Eon said.
"So why worry? That Core of Light makes it impossible for this Kaos guy to take over Skylands." Wes said.
"But he can still destroy the Core of Light. That's what he's going to do now. That's why Eon didn't bring us to Skylands himself and why he just randomly transported us: he's saving his power for the fight between the Skylanders and Kaos." I said.
"Yes, I am sorry for that, by the way. But follow me, I must give you the keys to unlocking your full Elemental powers." Eon said.
