Note: I've jumped ahead a bit.

After six months, Olivia was ready to go back to work, but not because of her children, but because she was going stir crazy with staying home. She loved her children, but she needed to work. So, she returned to work and she was accepted with open arms.

A few weeks after her return, Erica went into labor. She had her baby boy and she called him Nathan like she had planned. Not too long after baby Nate was born did Erica ask Elliot and Olivia to become the godparents to her precious baby. They both accepted with tears in their eyes as they knew that they helped this young mother to overcome her fears and now she was doing extremely well and dating a great guy who loved her so as well as falling in love with Nathan all the time. They couldn't believe they did that.

Now, about 6 months later, the twins are turning a year old. Olivia wanted to celebrate their birthday at home, but Elliot wanted to celebrate at Central Park. Olivia refused adamantly until Elliot explained to her that those two girls would be the most protected children there. After that, Olivia had no qualms about celebrating at such an open place.

After they set everything up, with the help from the guys and Alex and Casey, everyone began showing up. Sophia and Maya were the centers of attention as they sat in the middle of everything.

The girls were really showing their personalities. Sophia was toddling everywhere and trying to get into everything while Maya was more laid back and watching her sister as to make sure that she didn't get hurt. They all loved how protective they were of each other and of Nate. Anytime Erica brought Nate over, they didn't leave his side. He was crawling over Maya and Maya was giggling at him. Sophia came over to them and poked Nate in the side which made him laugh. \

The adults never worried about them having to be gentle with the younger baby because they never showed signs of hurting him and he loved the girls as much as they loved him. Anytime Nate cried, they check him out in Erica's arms to make sure that he was okay and give him slobbery kisses.

"Maya, Sophia, it's time for presents!" Olivia called to them.

The girls looked to their mother as if understanding what she was saying and went over to her, holding each other's hands. A collective "aww" sounded throughout their family.

Sophia went to her Daddy and Maya went to her Mommy.

"Box," Sophia said pointing to the gifts.

"Yeah, baby, that's a box. It's got a present for you and your sister in it," Elliot said.

"'Phia," Maya said.

"What? You want your sister to have it?" Elliot asked looking at Maya.

Maya looked at him with a grin.

"'Phia," Maya said pointing to the box.

"Okay," Elliot said as he pulled the box to Sophia.

They watched as Sophia ripped open the paper to reveal two dolls. One that looked like Sophia and the other that looked like Maya, both from their Aunt Alex.

"Oh, Alex, you shouldn't have!" Olivia exclaimed.

"Sure I should've. Those are my nieces and they deserved the best!" Alex exclaimed.

"Tanks," Maya said to her aunt.

"You're very welcome, baby girl," Alex said.

"Tank too," Sophia said.

"You're welcome too, sweet pea."

"My, baby," Sophia said as she picked up the doll that looked like Maya.

"Oh, Sophia, that's Maya's," Elliot said.

"My baby," Sophia said.

"No, Maya's," Elliot said.

"El, that's what she's saying," Olivia said, "Watch."

Sophia took the doll that looked like Maya and stretched over her dad to give the doll to Maya. Maya took the doll from her sister.

"Petty," Maya said.

"My pretty," Sophia said.

"Tanks," Maya said.

It amazed them all just how well the twins could speak and understand. Sophia smiled at her sister. She picked up her own doll and held it to her and stuck her thumb in her mouth, a habit her parents tried and are trying so desperately hard to break her of, but it wasn't working.

"Momma, box?" Maya asked.

"Yes, baby, you get to open a box too," Olivia said as she moved a gift to Maya.

They finished opening gifts before the twins' stomachs started growling.

"Food," Sophia said.

"Okay, baby," Olivia told her, "Hey, Fin, those burgers and dogs almost done?"

"Yeah, Baby Girl, they're done," Fin replied.

He brought them over. They sat down and began to eat. It wasn't long before it was time for cake.

"Cake, Daddy," Sophia said.

"Yes, baby, cake," Elliot said.

They lit the separate candles on the girls' mini cakes.

"Hot," the twins said simultaneously.

The adults chuckled at them. They sang happy birthday to the girls with Nate chiming in his version of the song. After that, Elliot and Olivia tried showing the girls how to blow their candles out. Sophia puckered her lips and blew a raspberry and Maya did the same, but the flames still went out, thanks to Mom and Dad. The girls clapped and squealed at their accomplishments. They had cake and the girls and Nate got cake all over them. Once Mom and Dad cleaned the babies, they let the girls run themselves out with Nate. They squealed and played. When it got really quiet, the adults were all on alert. Looking at the tree where the babies were playing, they saw three little bodies curled up together, Sophia and Maya had Nate between them and they were all asleep. After snapping pictures, the adults went back to cleaning up while keeping watch over the children.

Elliot and Olivia got the girls strapped into their seats and Erica got Nate into his. They said their goodbyes and thank yous before getting into the car to head home.

Once back to the apartment, they laid the girls in their cribs and watched their new one year olds sleep.

"I can't believe it's been a year."

"Me either."

"They are going to be a handful when they are older."

"Yeah, I'm going to beat guys away with a baseball bat."

"Nah, you'll just shoot them."

They laughed.

"I can't get over how smart they are."

"I know. Little geniuses."

"Wasn't it cute when Sophia gave Maya the doll?"

"Yes, it was. I can't believe Maya let her open the first gift."

"I can. Maya hasn't ever been really selfish. She's always shared and put Nate and Sophia before herself."

"I believe that's because she's just like her mother."

Olivia grinned and kissed him chastely.

"Thank you. Sophia is all you though."

"What do you mean?"

"Headstrong, stubborn, and knows what she wants and if she doesn't get it she has a huge temper."

"I'll have you know that I am not stubborn."

"Yeah, right. Stubborn as an ox!"

"I am not!"

"You know you're damn well stubborn."

"Not as much as you!"

"Shhhh!"

They checked to make sure that hadn't woken the girls. Sophia was wrapped around her doll as was Maya and both were sound asleep. They quietly made their way to the living room. Elliot sat on the couch while Olivia picked a movie for them to watch before the girls got up from their naps. She put the movie in and then joined him on the sofa to watch it.

"How am I stubborn?"

"Oh, let me count the ways."

She smacked his arm.

"There are many ways you're stubborn, but sometimes it's a good thing."

"Like when I was adamant that I call your kids back when you were in the hospital."

"Yes, and that pissed me off to no end."

"Yes, it did, but who would've thought that one illness, one unexpected illness, could bring anyone together and allow them to have a family such as ours?"

"Maybe it's divine intervention, but I'm kind of glad that I got sick otherwise I would've never been brave enough to tell you."

"Me either. I love you so much, Elliot."

"I love you too, Olivia."
