To avoid confusion, Kaito will not be appearing in this story.

This fic is separated into arcs. The first 3 chapters are the evolution arc, this chapter's part one of the alien arc...I'm not really sure what's going to happen after the alien arc, so just wait for further news as to what the other arcs are called.

Shinichi had been unwillingly been dragged on a trip to the beach a few weeks after the landing. When Ran and Shinichi got there, people flooded the detective with reports of a queer space shuttle.

"Let me have a look then," Shinichi told them, suddenly in detective mode.

The people brought him to a roped-off area in a hangar where the shuttle had been kept in storage. The platinum alien peeked out once more and found…Shinichi staring back at him! It shrieked and staggered back after noticing how Shinichi looked very similar to it. Prising off the top of the shuttle, Shinichi gestured to the alien to come out.

It obeyed.

It seemed to be mostly human – a human guy with spiky hair, to be more precise - but was platinum all over. It had a thin metallic-cream skin-like substance over most of its body which was quite akin to clothes. Six tentacles, three from each shoulder blade, lay like dead seaweed on its back, swaying when he moved. However, on occasion one of the tentacles would move of its own accord. Its eyes were a dull grey but had a rainbow sheen when caught by the light.

Shinichi cocked his head in a thoughtful manner and observed the alien as it gazed at the items strewn around the hangar. A white towel lying nearby caught its eye, and it picked it up gingerly, put it on like a cape and struck a pose.

"I think he's trying to be Kaito Kid," someone watching the alien noted.

Shinichi had thought the alien looked familiar, and now he had the answer: the alien was a platinum version of Kaito Kid! (Well, if you didn't include the tentacles and strange eyes.) He relaxed his shoulders a bit, letting part of his wings show. The alien let out a string of noises that sounded like some high-pitched variety of speech and pointed to the fragment of wing sticking out of his shirt. As he shoved it back under, he wondered why the alien had pointed it out…

Instead of relaxing on the beach like everyone else, Shinichi holed himself up in his hotel room with the alien, trying to communicate with it.

"What is your name?" he asked it in his (not-so-fluent) English. [Listen to Shinichi in his first case when he asks the freelance reporter and you'll get what I mean by not-so-fluent.]

The alien seemed to register the English and respond fluently. "Ladrafiefr." (It was pronounced lad-ra-fee-fur.) "It means 'human stealer' in my language. It may sound mean to you, but it's what I do." Ladrafiefr's tentacles had grabbed Shinichi's left wing as he said this. "And since you're a unique case," the tentacles unfurled Shinichi's wings one by one, "you're all the better to steal."

"But what about that thing with the towel? Does that have anything to do with this 'human-stealing' business?" Shinichi asked, trying madly to stay calm while the tentacles untied the wires.

"I can read your memories with one glance, Shinichi Kudo." The detective's eyes widened at this revelation. "I just took a memory and tried imitating the human in it. It was just to convince you that you could examine me further…and I succeeded." The tentacles retied the wires, this time around the wings and his arms. "Alright, you're all set. Now to take you with me!"

Shinichi wasn't too convinced the alien would be going anywhere, not with his spaceship ruined like that. "Wasn't that shuttle ruined?"

"It's not ruined, it just looked ruined," Ladrafiefr explained (with emphasis on 'looked') as he went to retrieve it.

Ladrafiefr was almost ready for take-off when Shinichi's phone began ringing.

He took it, read Shinichi's memory and hit the call button. Haibara's panicked voice came over the phone. "Kudo-kun! There was an alien – he said he'd take you away! ... Oh, I shouldn't be prattling. I just want to know, are you alright?!"

"Of course I'm not alright! I'm an alien hostage, tied up in these wings you've given me!" Haibara was speechless. While Ladrafiefr hit the button again to end the call, Shinichi tried getting his hands free...and failed.

Ladrafiefr tossed the detective into the shuttle and then got in. The spaceship spluttered, then gave a long, earsplitting roar. "Oh, and from now on, call me Kaito. I really like that name," Ladrafiefr decided with a smirk on his face.

Ladrafiefr is my character. His name is a mix of 'thief' and some words which apparently mean 'thief' in Latin…
