Just to make the story more accurate to the cover, I added in this next bit. Then, I looked up that fly movie which was apparently one of the biggest successes in body horror. Needless to say, I got sufficiently creeped out but also inspired, hence the part immediately after it.
On Sezaria, Shinichi had been subjected on to find out the limit of his ability. Due to his brainwashing, he couldn't feel a thing.
"Perfect! He's lasted longer than any subject I've ever used! Maybe I should get more mentally and physically fit people to become automata…" Kaito mused.
After laying his subject down on the ground face down, the alien morphed a tentacle into a blade and, with a surgeon's precision, cut open a hole in the back of Shinichi's head. He placed a piece of specially-made piece of metal with wires embedded in it over the hole after observing the skull and drilled the metal in place using a morphed tentacle.
"You're not going to sleep tonight, tantei-kun," he referenced the phantom thief from whom he'd taken his new name.

"Shinichi, wake up…" Ladrafiefr whispered in his ear the next morning. Unfortunately, the detective opened his eyes to see that the alien's skin (the top half) was off, and he could see his own reflection on the alien's body.
Although he'd seen gorier things than his own body, he couldn't help but scream. Suddenly, he remembered everything.
Another interesting thing was that Kaito didn't even try to calm him down – his lookalike was just left to scream his lungs out. As the spiky-haired alien left to put a new skin on, Shinichi glanced at his reflection one last time to see what he'd become: mostly a mess of wires and metal.
But Kaito's intrigue regarding the detective only increased from this, so he invited him onto the shuttle once more.

Ran, who hadn't slept one wink that past night, ran into the Agasa household/lab very early the next morning (as in, 'the sun hadn't even gone up yet' early) to find Shiho staring at herself in the mirror. Her dad had been playing mahjong and drinking all night so she didn't need to worry about him.
"Y-You're one of those aliens too, Ai-chan! Miyano-san! W-Whoever you are!" she screamed, not knowing what alias to call her all of a sudden. "I thought it was weird that you would come save me in the middle of the sky without any plausible explanation but seeing this is just…" She ran out of words as she spotted the shuttle once more.
Suddenly an idea occurred to her as they went out to greet it. "Do you know what the alien's weakness is?"
"It has no weaknesses as far as I'm concerned," Shiho mused. "Except pure diamond, since that cuts everything."
"Where do we get a diamond large enough to stop a threat to the earth?" A plan was forming in her mind, and she realised she could do without the large diamond so she dismissed that question when she noticed Shiho thinking about her latest question.
However, Shiho, despite what it looked like to Ran, had her own plan involving a diamond…if she could get her hands on one…and Generic.

The shuttle was in Haido Park this time and just as Shiho got there with Ran, the former ended up shrinking…right in front of the latter's eyes. (Her transformations from Ladrafiefr were only for her older form.)
