I do not own the Legend of Zelda series or any other series that may or may not be here. I only own the story and its original characters.
Chapter 2: Trapped?
[Time]
Link woke up about two hours after the incident. He slowly sat up, rubbed his head and took a look around the room that he was in. He was locked in a small, cold dungeon cell, with only one barred window, and nothing else.
He saw that there was no bed in the room, which explains why he woke up on the floor. His back felt lighter than it usually did, which meant that he lost his sword and shield, along with his bow, arrows, bombs, etc. But there was something he was forgetting. Something at the VERY back of his mind. Something he couldn't put his finger on.
Shrugging it off, he stood up, and walked around. That's when he noticed another thing. He didn't feel like he did before. He felt weaker, shorter, and...wait...
"Why are my legs so cold?" he thought. This thought continued to ring through his mind until he finally looked down. His eyes opened wide and his jaw dropped a bit. "Where the heck are my pants?!"
He covered his mouth quickly. Instead of hearing the voice he was used to, it was unusually high-pitched. "Why does my voice sound so... high?" His attention slowly went from his mouth to his hands. "Where are my gauntlets? I wore them before the fight with Ganondorf, didn't I? And... were my hands his hands always this small?" He focused on his arms. "And were my arms always this short?" He looked down. "And my legs, too? What is going on here?"
Not a moment sooner, he spotted a puddle near the cell bars. "I could probably get a good look at myself in that puddle." He walked over to the small puddle in the room and looked at his reflection. He couldn't believe his eyes.
He was a kid.
Somehow, some way, someone or something turned him back into a kid. He just gazed at his reflection, in awe. He looked like he did seven years ago. More specifically, before he pulled the Master Sword. "That must be why I don't have all my weapons. I can't wield the Master Sword, I can't use my bow, and I can't hold up my shield. How did this happen?"
Then it finally dawned on him. Or at least, how he turned into a kid.
"Of course! Zelda turned me back into a kid. She sent me back in time using the Ocarina! Wait, there was a portal, and...Ugh! The last thing I remember is me jumping into the portal to rescue... Zelda!"
She got sucked into the portal, and Link jumped in after her in an attempt to rescue her. How could he have forgotten to save her?! Was she in a dungeon cell, too? Was she a kid, also? Did Ganondorf kidnap her again? No, Ganon couldn't have done it. Link had just sealed him in the Sacred Realm. So, who is behind all of this? His thoughts were interrupted by a voice. A voice so loud, it rang throughout the dungeon.
"So, you're finally awake, huh?"
Link jumped back and reached for his sword, out of instinct. Unfortunately, he remembered that it wasn't there. After a brief moment of humiliation and disappointment, the voice rang through the dungeon yet again.
"Missing something?"
"Who are you?!" Link shouted out.
"I don't know... who am I, Link?"
Link let those words sink in. Apparently, this person knew who he was. He was positive that it wasn't Ganon. But who else did he know that was also evil? He scratched his head. "...well, your voice sounds pretty high, so I don't know who you could be... wait, are you the one that's keeping me locked in here?"
"I never said that."
"Then what the hell are you saying?!"
"Calm down, I'm just trying to make small talk."
He didn't notice it at first, but the voice had condensed itself so that it sounded like it was in front of him and not booming around the dungeon. "Small talk? I'm inside of a dungeon cell. Why would I want to make small talk."
"Because you're lonely."
"I'm not lonely."
"Well, you were thinking about that princess of yours just a little while ago, right?"
Link's eyes widened a bit in surprise. How did this person know that? "...who in the hell are you?!" he shouted, confused and angry. "I don't know... who am I?" Link sighed. "Look, if this is a joke, it is NOT funny. Now tell me who you are!"
The voice chuckled. "Neither enemy, nor friend..." Link rolled his eyes at the cheesy reference. "Where am I? Where's Zelda? Why was I brought here?! What the hell is your plan?!"
"I'm not the one with a plan. I'm just following orders."
"Orders? From who?"
"You ask a lot of questions for a hero who bested the evil Ganondorf. Are you sure you're a hero?"
Link dropped his jaw a bit. This voice hit it right on target again. "How did you know I fought Ganondorf? How do you know I'm the Hero of Time?! Just who in the hell are you?!"
A pause ensued that lasted about a minute. "Wait... Hero of Time? Are you sure?" Link nodded. "Yes, I'm the Hero of Time." Another pause before the voice spoke again. "Oh... well, you're not the one I'm looking for. Sorry for taking up your time. Later."
"What? Not the one you're looking for? Hey! Wait! What do you mean by that?!" Before he could say anything else voice disappeared, and Link was left in the dungeon. Alone. With no way out.
[Sky]
Link's eyes shot straight open. He sat up quickly as if he had woken up from a nightmare. He looked around the room he was in. Stone walls, stone floor, a single barred window and many bars lined in front of him. "Am I... in a jail cell?" He stood up and walked to the door of the cell. Locked. He was stuck in a tiny cell with no bed, no chair and one window that he was pretty sure a loftwing couldn't stick its head through.
He walked up to the door of the cell, grabbed the bars and started shaking them. He started shouting to see of anybody else was there. To make sure he wasn't completely alone. "Hello? Anybody? Zelda, are you there?" No response.
"Hey! Hello?! Hero in a prison cell over here!" Still no response. Frustrated, he started shaking the bars violently and screamed at the top of his lungs. "Hey! I'm stuck! Someone get me out of here! Zelda?! Anyone?!"
"Will you shut up already?! I heard you the first time!"
Link's eyes widened and he looked around the room. Nobody was there. The voice sounded like it behind him, yet he didn't see a thing. He just shrugged his shoulders and shook off the thought. Not a minute too soon, the voice sounded off again.
"That's more like it! You're better as a silent hero, anyways." Taking another glance around the room, he still didn't see anything, but it was pretty obvious that there was a voice speaking to him. "Hello?" he called out.
"Hello," he receive in response.
"Wh-who are you?" he asked.
"Who are you?" the voice replied.
"I asked you first!" Link huffed.
"I asked YOU first," the voice said.
Link rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. "Oh, that's really mature, saying exactly what I say."
"Oh, that's REALLY mature, saying EXACTLY what I say," the voice mimicked.
Link paused for a second, thinking of a way he could outsmart the copycat. Then he thought of it. He took a deep breath and shouted as loud as he could... "I'm an idiot!"
The voice giggled as he said this. "Yes, you are an idiot, my stupid, green friend," the voice said.
Putting aside the fact that he was being insulted, Link turned his head towards where he thought the voice was coming from. "Why are you doing this to me? What have I done wrong? Why am I in this cell? Do you even know who I am?! I'm the Hero of the Sky!"
"Ugh, such a bore," the voice replied. "Every new prisoner we get, they say the same thing. 'Where am I? I did nothing wrong! Do you know who I am? Blah blah blah.' Honestly, what are you whining about? The other Link twenty or so cells down said the exact same thing, but he was a bit angrier with his word choices."
Link didn't move at all. He was focused on those two words that puzzled him the most. "Other...Link? What're you talking about?"
"Oops, I've said too much."
The voice disappeared shortly after that, leaving Link's mind buzzing with so many unanswered questions. He sighed and sat down with his back to the wall. "That's it. If I get out of here, I am SO done with being the hero," he muttered.
[Twilight]
Link woke up with a major headache. When he opened his eyes, he couldn't see straight. His head felt like if he moved, it would be crushed. His arms and legs were crying out in pain, as if a Goron had sat on them. Slowly, Link pushed himself up, only to fall down on his face again. After a few more attempts, he finally gave up. He stared off into the distance and started remembering what happened back in the desert.
"What happened back there? Let's see, first, Midna left, then the mirror shattered. Then the other mirror appeared out of thin air and it opened a portal. Then that hand pulled me and Zel...Zelda!"
Link tried to yell out Zelda's name, but all that came out was a loud bark. His eyes widened. At first, he thought maybe a dog or something had made its way into the dungeon where he was kept in, but he dismissed it, knowing that it was a dumb theory. That's when he came to his horrible realization. When he looked behind him, he saw his tail. His hands and feet were now his paws. His teeth had become sharp and jagged and he was getting a sudden craving to eat garbage. Just then, that same voice from the previous two Links appeared and began to speak to Link.
"A wolf? Why would they think of leaving one of those filthy things in a cell? Wait a minute... that's it! I've found you!"
Link's eyes widened. Somehow forgetting the pain that glued him to the floor, he darted up onto his feet, which, again, are now his paws, and looked around the room.
"I know exactly who you are! But... man, I didn't realize you'd be so ugly looking." Link growled at the new voice, causing it to chuckle a bit. "Wow, I thought you would've learned from this back at Hyrule Castle." Link quickly remembered what happened back at the castle. That's where he was turned into a wolf. That's where he escaped and met Zelda. It's where he met... Midna.
"Y'know, it's funny. I pictured you as looking like the last two schmucks I just passed, but... I never expected you to be a werewolf. Hey, fight any vampires lately? Was it over a girl? Huh?"* The voice chuckled to itself at the joke.
Link growled a bit. He started looking around the room, searching for whoever was making that voice, but only getting no results. "Oh, right. I forgot. You can't see me. Sorry, I always tend to forget that I'm not visible when I'm talking to people. Here, hang on..."
Not a moment sooner, a figure appeared in front of him. The figure was an imp, with red eyes, blue hair that she wore in a pig tails, and white and black skin. She wore a strange helmet that covered her left eye. She had a devious grin on her face, like the one Midna had when she first met Link. In fact, she looked exactly like Midna, minus the hair, and the fact that her skin color was reversed.**
Link didn't move a muscle. He didn't know what to do. He was staring at another imp. And what's more, she's from the Twilight Realm! Which means...
"No, I'm not gonna take you to the Twilight Realm." Link's eyes widened. How did she know that he wanted to go there? Well, certainly, she didn't know that...
"And no, I'm not gonna lead you to Midna either." Now, Link was shocked. Two for two! How did she...
"...know what you were thinking? I have telepathy, so I can read your mind." Now, he was getting annoyed. Who was she and why was she acting like a total...
"Hey! Watch it, you mutt!"
"Who are you?" Link thought, knowing that she could read his mind.
"Why would you want to know?" she asked.
"Don't you think that I need to know who you are? Or at least your name."
"Hmmm... nope. Not a good enough excuse."
"Well, you were looking for me, right? And now you found me. You must know who I am, so all that's left is for me to know who you are." The imp stared at him for a second. "...fair enough. My name is Mindy."***
"Mindy? That's a weird name." Link thought to himself, forgetting that she could read his mind. Mindy shot him a glare. "So is Link. But, you don't see me complaining." Link did his best to mentally sigh. "Nevermind. Do you know a way out of here? And another thing, are you..." Mindy nodded. "Yes, I do know a way out. And as for that last question, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!"
"But, you look so much like her! You've gotta be sisters, or something!" Mindy chuckled to herself a little bit. "I look like Princess Midna? I'm not sure if that's an insult or a compliment, but judging by how you sound, or rather your thoughts, I'll take it as a compliment."
Link shook his head. "Forget it. Back to the topic. You know a way out, right? Can you get me out of here?"
"Can I? Yes. Will I? No."
"What?! Why not?!"
"Because, my boss would kill me."
Just then, her helmet started beeping. She hit the button that was on the side of her helmet, and a display box showed up. The message was something along the lines of 'Mindy! This is your boss! Stop playing with the prisoners and get back here!' Mindy typed in a reply, and sent it. All the while, Link was staring at her in shock. Mindy met his gaze.
"What? You thought this was a helmet?" Link nodded, still entranced by the strange device. She shook here head. "No, this is just a new type of communication device. Anyways... bye." She started to disappear, but Link stopped her before she could. "Wait!"
Slowly, Mindy reappeared from her spot. "What do you want?"
"Can you at least tell me one thing?"
"It depends. I can't answer specific questions."
"Is Zelda okay?"
Mindy tilted her head. "Who?"
"You know. Princess Zelda?"
"Oh. Her. Yeah, she's fine."
Link sighed in relief. "Well, that puts my mind to rest. Thanks."
Mindy shrugged. "Whatever. Bye."
And not a moment too soon, Mindy vanished into thin air.
[?]
"Mindy!"
"Yes, master?"
"What have I told you about fraternizing with the condemned?!"
"Gazuntite."
"What?"
"You sneezed, didn't you?"
"No!"
"Then what did you do?"
"I said what have I told you about fraternizing with the condemned?!"
"In English, por favor." (said Poor Fay-ver)
"What have I told you about talking to prisoners?!"
"Oh! You know, you REALLY need to work on your vocabulary. Y'know, so people can understand you."
"Nevermind that! You are to stay away from the dungeon until further notice. Understood?!"
"As you command, your highness..."
Mindy left the room and passed Zythe in the hallway. Zythe waved to her and she shot him a dirty look. He ignored her and entered the room Mindy just left, while she went back to the dungeons. She concentrated on Wolf Link from the shadows.
"Wolf-boy over there is gonna come in handy."
Review Corner:
Din's Fire: Thank you for reviewing my story. By the way, the part in the prologue where you keep getting the Link's and Zelda's confused is what I was going for. What better way to enjoy a story than throwing in random, confusing humor?
Illusion Island: I don't wanna be rude, but I've seen a number of stories in this exact format. They haven't been taken down yet, and I assume that this one won't any time soon.
Notes:
*Little known fact, I don't like Twilight. I don't care if you all hate me because I do, I just don't care for it at all.
**Midna has black and white skin. Mindy (if you were too lazy to read that part) has white and black skin. So, where Midna's arms would be black, Mindy's arms are white, and vice versa.
***I needed a name that's similar to Midna. I didn't feel like creating a name like Midna on such short notice, so I went with Mindy. What? I had a long day. Don't judge me!
And that's the end of this chapter. Thanks for reading. Don't forget to review the story. Favorite the story if you like it, or follow it if you want. And now I leave you with a random word of advice:
You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose. But, you can't pick your friends nose.
Bye everybody.
