A/N: Hey guys! I'm sorry, you know me, my updates take a while. I hope you can understand that I'm busy with tons of things. I do intend to finish this story. I will never give up, I just am so busy. Here's chapter ten! Enjoy!
Pam stepped into his car once again. She was still wearing what she had to work, except her hair was unpinned, and Jim noticed that before anything else because of the way her perfect curls fell in front of her face as she buckled into the seat.
"I didn't realize how hard it was snowing." Pam said, setting the luggage on her lap.
"Oh, yeah. It started right after I dropped you off."
"Thanks." Pam whispered looking at the dashboard. There was quiet until she turned to see if he had heard her.
"Hey, no problem, anytime." He finally answered.
Pam looked at him. He looked at her. He was wearing a pair of sweats and a nice fitted white shirt. His hair was messier than usual, and she realized she had never seen him like this. She liked it.
"Oh, where to?" he asked, starting the engine.
"Um, can you give me a ride to The Hampton Suits? I have a discount there on my card."
"Sure, that's near that one Chinese restaurant we both like, right? What's the name, Ching's Chinese?"
Pam laughed because that wasn't the right name but also because she didn't know what it actually was. "Yeah, but that's definitely not the name of it."
"I just can't ever remember the name of that place. Chu's Chinese?" Jim pulled out of her drive way.
"If anything, you're getting colder."
Pam glanced at him from the corner of her eye. He smiled his cleanly shaven face
"Pam?" his tone changed to serious.
"Yeah?"
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
She knew what he was referring to, and of course she did.
"I guess. I mean, there's not much to talk about. I just told him that…that we…"
Jim glanced at her, clutching the steering wheel. He was mad because a woman like Pam never deserved a man like Roy. It might take a lot for him to control his anger while she told him the story. He noticed her uneasy feelings.
"Hey, you can tell me anything." He assured her as he loosened his grip on the wheel.
They came to an almost empty intersection with a red light.
"I know." She looked into his green eyes that held honesty reminding her that there was no reason to hesitate with him. It was Jim.
"I told him we were over."
Jim wasn't quite sure if he had heard right. "You…you what?"
"I told him that we were over, that the wedding was off. He yelled at me and told me I couldn't leave. So I waited until he passed out to call you. Gosh, you know I'm tired of all his lying and him thinking that he can control me. So he doesn't know I left."
"Wha…I…so, you guys aren't together? I mean just like that? You're not giving him another chance?"
Pam was startled by his response. Didn't he like her? Was he encouraging her to try at this?
"Well, I…no. He's brought on too much pain. I'd thought you'd be happy for me?"
"Oh, I am, I am! I just didn't expect you to do this. I'm proud of you, Pam. I really am."
Jim's thoughts shifted to an old conversation he had with Ruby.
"As soon as she's single, you snatch her up, the way you talk about her, she's awfully pretty and you don't want no guy taking her away again."
"Ruby, she's engaged. They're getting married."
"Oh honey, I've been engaged, do you see a wedding ring on my finger?"
"Paul passed away, that's different."
"Oh, it ain't either. Well, maybe it is, but it don't matter. This girl s'pposed to be yours, and she will be if you let her know how you feel. Do as I say, Ruby's usually right."
They were silent while snow began to fall thicker as the sun went down. The tall street lights glistened on the pure white roads. Buildings became darker as workers left offices. It was becoming a peaceful winter night in Scranton. They turned the last corner and saw the hotel and restaurant in view.
"Chang Fe's Fine Chinese!" They both chanted as they noticed the sign at the same time.
"Jinx!" Jim shouted and pointed at her. "Wow, I've never said jinx before you! Ok, you know the rules, you owe me a coke, and you can't talk until I get one. But how on earth did we not remember a name like that!?"
Pam smiled then frowned.
"Alright, now how are you going to get a room if you can't talk?"
She stared at him wondering what he was up to.
"Maybe you should just stay with me. It would make things a lot easier, you'd have a ride to work, and cost would be cheaper than here. I don't charge much you know? And I don't mean to brag, but I have some amazing ratings."
She burst into a laugh and then became quiet because he was staring at her. Was he serious?
"What do you say? Oh wait, you can't say anything." Jim laughed at his own joke, and not in the obnoxious way Roy did, in a teasing way that she loved.
"Okay, you know what sounds good to me, I say we go to my place and order in Chinese, we can get a coke and talk. Shake your head yes if you'd like to do that or of course shake your head no if you'd rather get a hotel room and sit there wishing you would have said yes."
"I am not kidding." Pam protested pointing her chop sticks at his chest.
"Yes you are. The Beesly I know would never do that." Jim laughed
"Believe it because it totally happened."
"Alright, alright." He smiled.
"What time is it?" Pam laid her head on the back of the couch.
"Uh, 8:34." He said looking at his watch.
Pam didn't respond. Instead, she breathed in her surroundings and closed her eyes, not wanting to imagine that this wasn't her home because it felt too real to be here with him. She looked over at Jim. He was already gazing at her.
They locked eyes and in that moment Jim knew that he would forever want to know what was on her mind, so he asked.
"What are you thinking about?" He said, leaning back to face her.
"You." She said simply.
Is Pam Beesly flirting with me
"Me? What about me?" He silently gulped.
"I wanna know the reasons you love me." Pam confidently smiled.
