Furious. That was the only way to describe what Isobel was feeling after what had happened with Caleb in the pharmacy. After storming out of the said pharmacy, Isobel headed straight back into her car and drove back home, so angry about what had just happened that her knuckles were practically white because she was gripping at her steering wheel so tightly. All the way home Isobel was cursing Caleb rather loudly, she was still in shock that he had the nerve to accuse her of doing something so heinous. Isobel was livid, she would never do something like that, she barely even used her magic and she would never use it for the purpose of scaring someone. A darkling was dark stuff, the kind of magic that Isobel would never dream of doing because it was immense not to mention her father would go ballistic if he caught even a whiff of any of this. Isobel would never so something this incomprehensible, let alone stupid. That type of magic required a lot of magic and way beyond what Isobel was capable of doing. She knew perhaps only two people who had the knowledge about how to summon a spirit that could take the form of a dead person and those two people were her father and Caleb's father William as they were the two people who knew more about the power, their heritage and magic than herself but Isobel knew that the two of them would never do something like that. Someone else had to be behind it but Isobel was too angry to even think about that so she went home. But before she actually got back to her house, she made a pit stop first to Pogue's house to speak to him as heads were going to roll if he didn't deal with this nonsense.
Unfortunately for Isobel, Pogue wasn't home he was out at the garage getting some work done on his bike, however his parents James and Sara were home. Isobel adored them, James Parry was her godfather and the best friend of her father but Isobel was so worked up that she had had to turn down Mrs. Parry of tea and cakes which irritated Isobel even more as liked having tea with Pogue's mother. Excusing herself from the Parry house, Isobel headed back home and went straight back to her bedroom, took some aspirin and went back to bed. Isobel was too angry to think clearly so she decided that taking a nap would help rectify her mood. Sleep was good. When Isobel woke up four hours later, she actually felt slightly better and by that, she no longer had the urge to throttle Caleb's neck. Yawning, Isobel sat up in bed and much to her surprise Pogue was sitting on her desk chair, phone in hand messaging someone.
"Jesus! What are you doing here!?" Isobel hissed.
"When I came home, my mom said that you came over to the house and you were pretty pissed off, enough so much so that you turned down having tea and she said that since you came over, I should come and check on you–" Pogue began to explain.
"That doesn't even being to explain why you were in my bedroom when I was asleep, you know that's kind of creepy even for you Pogue." Isobel interrupted.
"You were asleep when I arrived so I told your folks that I would just come up here and wait until you woke up. Don't worry I haven't been here too long,"
"That's reassuring but it's good that you're here Pogue because I am not happy and do you want know why?" Isobel demanded as recalled her encounter with Caleb earlier on in the day, she was still very much angry about what had occurred early on. Sure the nap help but Isobel still needed to vent her anger out on someone who could take it as well as dish it out. Hence why Isobel had gone out searching for Pogue as she needed who she could have a bitch at and know that they would do something about this. As much as Isobel tended to disagree with Pogue, she knew he would help her with this problem. It was one of the few times that Isobel found Pogue Parry to be fairly useful.
"I know why." Pogue replied and Isobel frowned. "Caleb called me and he told me what happened, he said that you had stormed off and then why I spoke to my mom and I knew I had to come over."
"After what I did for you all yesterday he had the nerve to accuse me of sending him a darkling! I covered for you all and this is the thanks I get Pogue? This is why I don't get involved with any of you guys because all your bullshit and I am sick of getting dragged into it! Ever since we were kids I've had to keep an eye on you all, make sure that you morons don't get into trouble that I can't get you out of and I don't get any thanks. I just get accused of sending Caleb a darkling! Just because I've already ascended doesn't mean that I sent the damn thing as I don't mess with that kind of stuff, we both know that messing around with spirits and the dead never brings anything good Pogue so I wouldn't do anything like that especially since I don't particularly like using magic to solve my problems! Trust me when I say that if I wanted to teach you all a lesson I wouldn't use a darkling, I would deal with you all in person and without the use of magic." Isobel loudly hissed, making sure to keep her voice down so her parents couldn't hear her, as her dad would flip his lid if he caught one whiff of what was really going on here.
"I know Iz, that's why I told Caleb that he was crazy for thinking that you were behind the darkling because as much as we don't get along, I know that you're not that stupid enough to send a darkling of all things." Pogue stated and Isobel found herself laughing as she climbed over her covers and sat on her bed crossed legged, this was the second time in two days, Pogue leapt to her defence.
"Is that an insult or a compliment?"
"You know me Iz, which means it's definitely an insult." Pogue quipped with a grin.
"Good, I was worried there for a moment that you were going soft on me Parry and I really can't have that."
"Look Izzy, I don't think Caleb meant to accuse you of sending the dead kid from the dells to him as a darkling, it's probably just the stress of him ascending this week that's overwhelming him and add that everything else he's got on his plate, Caleb's bound to lose it…" Pogue said and Isobel wasn't surprised that he was
"I really couldn't care less about whether Caleb is stressed about ascending or not because that has nothing to do with this whole darkling nonsense. I know my dad says I have to care but I really couldn't care less, I got through my ascension just fine and you didn't see me going on Godzilla psycho bitch leading up to it. "
"What are you talking about Iz? You were a total bitch leading up to your ascension and you've still been one ever since." Pogue added and Isobel had to give him that, she had been a real hard ass during that time, even more than she usually was.
"Okay maybe I was a little bit cranky during that time but the only reason I was acting like that because you were all watching every move I was making and staring at me like I was some kind of freak, poking and prodding me to see what would happen so forgive me for acting like a bitch but I don't like it when people stare at me and besides I'm special so I can get away with acting like a bitch where as Caleb can't. So you had better tell your punk ass bitch to get his shit together and stop making baseless accusations that are unfounded and he can't prove before I do it for him and trust me if I have to, it won't be pretty." Isobel sharply replied, thinking about her accession wasn't took pleasant. The week before it had happened she had felt weird and on edge for reasons she couldn't explain. Everyone thought it was her being a hormonal things until the clock struck midnight, signalling the start of her sixteenth birthday and she had ascended. It was pretty unpleasant, even before it had happened everyone had watching her and waiting every year since she had received her powers on her thirteenth birthday to see when she would ascend. No one had an idea that it would happen as Isobel was the first female with powers so no one knew anything about Isobel or her powers so everyone used to watch her like a hawk. Isobel hated being the centre of attention so having people breathing down her neck constantly and watching her every move irritated her greatly.
"Fine, I'll have a word with him and pass along your message now you need to get your ass out of bed as I'm going to Nicky's and your coming with me, so get a move on." Pogue instructed and Isobel just narrowed her eyes at him.
"Is that so Parry? I thought you were well aware of the fact that I don't respond well to demands."
"Look Iz, it's going to be the five of us and I know Kate said that her and Sarah are going to be there too and they are bringing along the new guy with them for some reason." Pogue stated.
"Ohh… Someone's got a problem with a new guy." Isobel teased picking up on Pogue's apparent jealously issues, as much as the two of them didn't get along at the best of times Isobel knew Pogue better than she knew herself. And she found the fact that he was jealous of Chase to be very interesting.
"Whatever Izzy, just get a move on." Pogue grimly replied in a blatant attempt to change the subject of the conversation and reluctantly Isobel dropped the topic but she kept a mental note of it, so she could use it against Pogue the next time he pissed her off.
"If I come, you guys had better be on your best behaviour because I'm not in the mood to be dealing with you guys' chicken shit after the day I've had." Isobel warned as she climbed off her bed and went about looking for her jacket, she had taken her nap dressed in the clothes that she had been wearing so all Isobel had to do was locate her jacket.
"Isobel Hembry, do you even know the meaning of the word chilling out and having fun?"
"Afraid not Pogue Parry because I'm always watching over you guys to make sure you don't expose us so that doesn't leave much time for me to relax so forgive me for being a hard ass most of the time." Isobel quipped in a sarcastic tone of voice all whilst having a forced smile on her face
"Don't worry Iz, were just going to have some harmless fun tonight." Pogue replied.
"That doesn't fill me with much confidence Pogue as I know you guys, your definition of fun and mine doesn't exactly match up. Last time you guys said we were going to have fun, Reid drove us off the side of a bloody cliff and I remember that occasion very clearly and it was in no way fun for me." Isobel retorted as she found her jacket behind Pogue on her desk chair and grabbing the jacket, Isobel slid it on. She was very weary of Pogue's suggestion about having some harmless fun. But Isobel knew that Pogue wouldn't let things escalate after she covered for him late night with her dad and then this whole Caleb thing. Isobel was certain that Pogue knew that she would rip him a new one if things went too far.
"I know, which is why you need to liven up a bit and get out more Izzy."
"Ha ha! Very funny Pogue and you can forget about me getting on the back of your bike, we're taking my car because after what happened yesterday I don't feel safe with any of you driving me anywhere…"
"Sure thing Hembry…"
One interesting car journey later which involved no arguments in the slightest, the two of them had arrived at Nicky's, Pogue literally had to push Isobel into the dimly bar by her shoulders and over to where Kate, along with Sarah, Chase and Caleb were sitting. Despite the fact that Isobel knew that Caleb was going to be here, just seeing him managed to rile her up but she said nothing as she took a seat as far away from him as possible. From where she sat, Isobel couldn't see Reid or Tyler anywhere as the place was full of patrons but she knew that the two of them were lurking around somewhere, it was just a matter of time before they showed their faces. Getting herself settled, Isobel kept herself silent as Pogue went about greeting Kate and the others.
"I can't believe you got Izzy to come Pogue, well done!" Kate praised before turning to Isobel. "And just where the hell have you been Isobel? I've been calling you all day and I kept getting voicemail… After the mood you were in earlier I didn't expect for you to show up."
"Whatever." Isobel retorted as she was in no mood to talk about what happened earlier with anyone here especially when Caleb was sitting across from her.
"Hey Iz, I'm going to get something to eat, you want some?" Pogue questioned and Isobel nodded her head in agreement and with a small smile, Pogue left the table in order to go to the bar to order some food. Leaving Isobel as the fifth moody wheel with the four other happy and cheery wheels. Right now Isobel was really regretting letting Pogue convince her to come out tonight.
"So Isobel what's the deal with you and Pogue? I thought you said that you didn't get along with him but now your sharing food." Chase questioned as his eyes glanced over at Kate and Isobel couldn't help but wonder that Pogue may be right to be weary of him. But Isobel wouldn't write Chase off straight away as he was just probably being a little overly friendly with Kate because he was just trying hard to fit in.
"Isobel Hembry is complex Chase. There is so much more to her than that very pretty face but basically when Isobel is in a bad mood she gets really cranky and if it isn't obvious she's very cranky at the moment, hence her not saying much. The only remedy to Isobel's crankiness is to feed her as it somehow gets her to lighten up a bit and when they were kids Pogue figured that out. He's one of the few people who can bring Isobel out of one of her moods." Kate explained much to Isobel's displeasure but she chose not to saying anything, she wasn't one for talking about herself much. "You wouldn't know it by looking at the two of them and the amount they argue but Pogue and Iz are very close to each other, practically brother and sister. The two of them live right next door to each other and walk in and out of each others houses on a constant basis, No matter how much they argue with each other, they love each other and would do anything for the other one but don't count on either of them to admit it. They like keeping up the façade that they hate each other…"
Isobel opened her mouth to speak when she felt a familiar tingle in the back of her head and looking over to the bar, she caught sight of Pogue who was over at the bar and shrugged his shoulders in bemusement. Isobel rolled her eyes before turning her attention back over to the conversation, "Yeah keep convincing yourself of that Kate."
"C'mon Isobel, spill the details about what happened, Caleb hasn't said a word about what he said that's pissed you off so much and trust me when I say that I've tried." Sarah questioned and Isobel looked over at Caleb, glaring at him until he quickly excused himself with Chase and headed over to the foosball table.
"I don't want to talk about it." Isobel angrily stated and she watched as Kate and Sarah exchanged a look that she couldn't decipher and so she turned away in her seat to watch Caleb and Chase play foosball.
"So you guys are all real tight–" Chase began before glancing over to Isobel. "What about you Isobel? Does that include you?"
"Our families are really close and always have been, however it doesn't extend to all of us for obvious reasons but the boys are close, the four of them are practically brothers…" Isobel idly replied.
"Must have been nice." Chase noted.
"Yeah, it was–" Caleb replied.
"Not really." Isobel interrupted and moments later Pogue walked over and handed Isobel a tray of chips before heading over to the foosball table and stepping in to play foosball with Caleb as Chase watches.
"Reid and Tyler are here, at the pool tables with Aaron and the boys." Pogue said giving both Isobel and Caleb the heads up, for the inevitable trouble that is sure to come their way especially since what happened last night at the party. It explained why Isobel had felt someone using and instead of getting worked up about it, Isobel put some fries into her mouth. No doubt it had been the imp who had been using but Isobel wouldn't make a scene here, she'd give Reid a hard time later in a less public place. Isobel was certain that one day she was going to snap and end up killing Reid before he killed himself due to the amount he uses.
"Great, that's trouble…" Caleb noted.
"So Caleb tells me that you guys are swimmers." Chase said in an attempt to make conversation with Pogue, who was clearly giving him a rather frosty reception. Isobel took this to mean that Pogue's been hanging around with her a little too much lately plus he probably didn't like the fact that the new boy was moving in on his girl.
"Spenser's best; state finals twice."
"I swam for Hastings, I was a freestyle man." Chase stated and Isobel nonchalantly nodded as she continued to eat her chips, she was starting to feel a little better now.
"Won't be here, that's Caleb's swim." Pogue commented.
Chase turned to Caleb. "Is that so?"
"Yeah, but if you want to talk freestyle with anyone than your best talking to Iz, her freestyle is like no one else's, she kicks my ass all the time and she'll take on anyone, anytime. Competition between her and Pogue is pretty stiff and the two of them are the best swimmers at Spenser and everyone knows it." Caleb stated and Isobel rolled her eyes.
"The asshole for once is speaking the truth, even though he's just doing it to kiss my ass." Isobel retorted with a scoff.
"Chill out Iz and keep eating! But Caleb's right, freestyle is Izzy's bitch, never lost a swim except against me but she can't be perfect especially when it comes to her butterfly but she tries, maybe one day she'll beat me. " Pogue said and Isobel couldn't help but laugh at his cockiness and so she stuck her tongue out at him playfully.
"Then how comes I've won at state finals and you've yet to do so Parry?" Isobel quipped and Pogue stuck his tongue out in retaliation but before he could say anything in his defense, Sarah comes along and drags Caleb off to dance with her, which leaves Pogue alone with Chase and considering the animosity Pogue's been directing towards the two of them together with Kate isn't exactly good. Whatever it was, Isobel was paying no attention to it as she wanted no trouble tonight, she was just here to have some harmless fun like Pogue had promised her.
"–Hey! It's Reid and Tyler!" Caleb called out and straight away Isobel stood up and looked through the crowds and she sees that the two of them are about to get into it with Aaron and all his friends. Isobel watched as Pogue walked away from the foosball table and heading towards the trouble and putting her chips down, Isobel started to follow Pogue as she saw the boys stumbling out of the front door but as she did, Isobel felt someone grab her wrist and turning around Isobel saw that it was Chase.
"Iz it's not a good idea to follow them and Pogue said for you, Kate and Sarah to stay here with me so you don't end up getting involved." Chase said and Isobel ruefully shook her head, Chase didn't understand and he probably never would.
"Whether I like it or not I'm always going to be involved, I hate to admit this but they are my family, they are my friends although I pretend otherwise and it is my job to stop them from getting themselves into something they can't get themselves out. As much as I dislike them or pretend to, this is what I do. I protect them just like they protect me, it's all I've ever really know Chase and I can't stop now." Isobel firmly stated as she pulled her wrist away and made her way through the crowds towards the front door of the bar and out of the front door.
Naturally Isobel missed what this whole semi-brawl is about but considering the fact both Reid and Aaron are involved it can't be good because when Isobel got outside Aaron stared at her with utter contempt.
"Of course Isobel is going to come, the beloved Children of Ipswich go everywhere together and have each other's back." Aaron snarled and Isobel just sighed, she didn't want any trouble but of course it somehow followed her.
"Hey! Take it some place else ladies!" Nicky, the owner of the said bar said from the doorway armed with a baseball bat. "Now!"
"Sure whatever you say Nicky." Aaron replied as he and his friends all head back inside, not forgetting to barge past the rest us on the boys on thier way back inside and Nicky swiftly shut the door, leaving the five of them outside to deal with whatever was going on.
"What were you thinking?" Caleb demanded heading straight for the source of trouble because it was unlikely that Tyler started all of this and even if he did, it was no doubt because of Reid's influence. Isobel knew that things weren't going to end well and she was going to have to step in when things got even more uglier then they already were. The night of no trouble and having some harmless fun had clearly gone out of the window.
"We were just playing them" Reid scoffed laughing and putting the fact that he had almost gotten into a fight two days in a row down to nothing. That was the problem with Reid, everything was a joke to him but it wasn't a joke and he needed to realize that sooner rather than later. Isobel really wanted to knock some sense into the imp until he started behaving himself.
"Yeah, c'mon Caleb they were suckers for it." Tyler added.
"Why don't you quit being such a pussy?" Reid said walking up so close to Caleb that their noses are practically touching. Isobel could tell that this wasn't going to get pretty but she wasn't going to intervene unless she really had to.
"I'm not finished with you yet!" Caleb angrily stated as he grabbed Reid by his shoulder and Reid responds by powering up and using his powers to tightly squeeze Caleb's wrist. "Reid… Stop."
Apparently the little imp known as Reid has pushed Caleb to far as he proceeds to power up as well before sending a blast of energy in the direction of the imp sending him over some beer kegs and into a wall."
What will it take for you to get it It's addictive you moron. You've seen what it can do if you abuse it. You want that? That's your business But if you use it in the open, like you did tonight, you risk exposing us all! And that I won't let happen!" Caleb yelled and Isobel was slightly impressed that Caleb was finally taking a stand although he had taken his sweet time in doing it. "My power is greater than yours."
"Not until you ascend!" Reid reminded him as he stood up and holding out his hand, he caused one of the kegs to levitate.
"All right go for it tough guy!" Caleb told Reid waving his arm in defeat and Isobel could see that Reid was going to hit Caleb with the keg, this was escalating real quickly so much so that it was violence within their group. Isobel knew she had to step in now before somebody got hurt. As Reid pushed the keg towards Caleb with his powers, Isobel ran into the middle of where they were both standing just as the keg was hurling towards Caleb and now straight to her.
"Iz!" Tyler yelled as the keg came towards Isobel, going at such a speed that it was sure to hit her and too late for anyone to do anything about it. Isobel may have blinked maybe one, perhaps even twice but she wasn't scared, she was calm. Isobel closed her eyes for a brief second and when she opened them, the keg was hurtling towards her before it stopped right in front of her face. Isobel looked at it for a few moments, staring at the keg rather intently and as she did, the keg rotated in front of her. Then with a flick of her hand, Isobel sent the keg that was right in front of her face crashing into crates filled full of empty beer bottle which smash into a thousand pieces. Turning every so slightly, Isobel made sure that she could see both Caleb and Reid and holding out both her hands, she sent them back with flying back a few yards with a blast kinetic energy. Not enough to seriously hurt them but she used enough force that they landed on their backs with a bit of a thud.
"You will stop this now!" Isobel commanded and there was silence as she spoke and the authority was clear as day in her voice. "I will not allow you to do this here and if you will not stop than I will stop you myself as my power is greater than both of yours."
"Iz." Pogue began but he didn't have to say anything because Isobel was fully aware that her nose was bleeding but that didn't stop her from using her powers to keep Reid and Caleb apart. Isobel needed them to listen to her and they wouldn't if they were too busy fighting each other.
Despite the fact Isobel can feel the blood running down her nose and onto her lips but Isobel carried on. Her father was right, Isobel may not be the eldest but she had been the first one to ascend and she needed to step up. Her father led the covenant and the founding families in the wake of William Danvers abuse of his powers and Isobel needed to do the same, she needed to take charge as she could not and would not let this continuous abuse of power go on any further. Isobel would not allow history to repeat itself in terms of Salem and William Danvers accelerated aging due to his abuse of power. "Your internal bullshit is threatening to expose us all and I will not let that happen. Keep using like you've all been using and you won't even make it to thirty because when you ascend you'll be as good as dead and I will not be the one to explain to your parents that you refused to listen to the continual warnings."
"Izzy's talking to you Reid." Caleb yelled.
"So I fixed her car big deal?" Reid retorted
"Don't play us Reid, I'm talking about later and we all know it." Caleb responded and Isobel could taste her own blood in her mouth.
"Shut up!" Isobel hissed as she was not in the mood to be hearing excuses and people putting the blame on each other when they were all responsible. She could taste her own blood in her mouth but she continued anyway. "None of you are innocent, the blame is not on one of you but all of you and I am making this stop. I will not have you exposing us, I will not have a repeat of Salem because people died, innocent people who weren't like us. They were killed because people suspected that they were witches and warlocks. This covenant was formed to keep our families safe and we've been that way for 300 years and I will not have you all ruin that because you just want to have some fun. Salem cannot be repeated, I will not let you bring that to this place…"
"Iz–" Caleb began.
"Am I making myself clear?" Isobel demanded as she glanced from Caleb back over to Reid.
"Yes."
"G-Good…" Isobel uttered as she placed her hand on her face and she could feel the blood on her face and the blood that was continuing to come out from her nose. Pulling her hand away, Isobel looked at it in shock and she realized that something was very wrong as she had never had a nosebleed this bad before.
"Izzy…" Pogue asked and Isobel looked over at him. "Iz, talk to me what's wrong?"
"I-I don't know Pogue but I'm scared..." Isobel said as she lowered her hands, putting down the kinetic force field that was keeping Reid and Caleb apart. Isobel didn't know what to do, her head was spinning, she felt so light headed and weak that Isobel just wanted to go home but she knew she had to get herself cleaned up. Isobel tried to walk over in the direction of Nicky's but she stumbled slightly. Her head was spinning so much faster now and Isobel could swear that she could see black spots in her eyes, then there was Pogue's face. The look of horror on his face that scared Isobel. Then she couldn't anything, everything was darkness.
