A/N: post 2x09- I clearly had Tommy feels still to work out. I don't even know. Enjoy, and let me know what you think.
"Hey, is that flower stand still a few doors down from the main entrance?" she asked Digg as he and Oliver were about to leave for a lunch appointment she wasn't needed for. She knew he paid attention to things like that and would have noticed this morning when he arrived.
"They were setting up when we got here." he answered, stepping to her desk and looking down as she pulled her purse out of the bottom drawer.
"Perfect." she said, rising to her feet as she crossed to grab her coat and Oliver's from the closet. She slipped hers on and held Oliver's out towards him as he emerged from his office. "I might be a little late from lunch, but your meeting will probably run long anyways."
"Everything okay?" he asked, brows drawing together as he approached her and took the overcoat.
"Yeah, everything's fine." she said with a smile, trying not to let her eyes linger on the faint bruising she could see along his temple. It had only been two days since he'd defeated Gold and come back in relatively one piece.
They rode down in the elevator together, parting in the lobby as he got waylaid by one of the vice presidents. She felt his eyes follow her out the door and turned to the right, wondering if he would ask her later where she'd gone.
As she chose the most colorful bouquet, she tried to ignore the voice that said she didn't need to do this and that if anyone knew what she was up to they'd think she was crazy. Purchase made she cut back through the QC lobby and took the elevator to the parking garage.
She'd woken up from a dead sleep earlier that morning with a gasp and the immediate knowledge that she knew exactly who Oliver had received his final message from. There had been a peace about him that she'd never seen before when he'd returned. At the time she hadn't questioned it. She'd just been so glad to see him come down those stairs she couldn't think of anything other than getting to him as quick as she could and hugging him.
Tommy. He was the only one who could have lifted the burden on Oliver's soul. Which is why she found herself driving through the gates of a cemetery she'd only been to once before.
The day was overcast and there was a brisk wind that cut over her bare legs as she climbed the hill, but soon enough she was standing before the tall stone that provided her some protection and a smile crossed her face at the thought.
She knelt carefully and laid the flowers under his name. "I'm not sure why I'm here. I mean, I know it wasn't your actual spirit that talked to Oliver, it was just a hallucination because he's under so much pressure and carries so much with him all the time it makes sense that he has to crack at some point. We should just be grateful he hasn't turned into some bow toting villain like…" she cut herself off with a sigh as she realized she was about to bring up Malcolm and that didn't seem right considering, "Anyways, he saw you. At his lowest, you saved him. You told him what he needed to hear. I don't know what that was but it worked so...I just wanted to say thank you for being the reason he came back, for being his friend. Sometimes I think he needs that more than anything else."
She brushed a bit of smudge off the letters of his name before she stood. "Don't tell Oliver I came here. He might not understand. I never even really met you. Although once I did tell a security guard at Merlyn Global I was in love with you...but it was just so I wouldn't get caught hacking...you know what, let's just skip that part." she stepped back and wrapped her arms around her waist. She shivered at the cold and knew she needed to get back soon.
As she stepped past she laid her hand on top of the headstone, "Thank you for bringing him back to me." she whispered, finally allowing herself to say the words. Because before Oliver had left that night he'd told her he'd come back and she'd futilely tried to make him promise and there was silence except for what was being shouted between them unspoken. 'I'll come back to you….Promise you'll come back to me.'
She didn't know how that had come on so quickly, but it was there and they weren't ready to deal with it yet.
She picked her way carefully down the hill, fighting with her hair as it blew in her face, blocking her view. Which is how she was almost to her car before she spotted him.
The Mercedes was parked thirty feet down the road, but Oliver stood leaning against the hood, eyes locked on her. She froze with her hand on the key fob and stared at him.
A look of understanding passed between them and any anxiety she'd felt about being caught vanished.
Without a word he pushed off the hood and got into the car, the sound of the door shutting making her jump and unlock her own car.
She climbed in and let out a long exhale as Digg pulled out and went past her. She knew she'd return to the office and no one would talk about what happened, but she was okay with that.
Just before she put the key in the ignition her phone chimed. It was a text from Oliver and all it said was 'Thank you'
