Disclaimer~ I do not own Robin, Raven and his fighting crusaders. Or RobStar fans would know because Starfire would end up with Aqualad. This is just a free story, with no profit involved beyond reviews!
I do happen to own Gray though, so you know… equal trade.
Gray: What now?
Me: *places OC sticker on his forehead* Nothing, hun.
Ready…set…GO.
Robin collapsed on the bed face forward. Sweat trickled down his bare limbs and his breathing was ragged. He laboriously flipped onto his back and haphazardly threw his towel somewhere towards the door.
Even training for several hours more than usual wasn't helping his mood. He was getting tired of being irritable all the damn time, but he just couldn't get rid of it.
Robin struggled to sit up and stomped to his desk. He opened his laptop with a sharp snap and typed in his password. The flashing 'Not Found' announcement taunted him. He leaned on the desk with his palms flat on opposite sides of the computer. "Who the hell are you, Gray?" He muttered.
Robin couldn't get rid of the feeling of meeting Gray somewhere before. He was like a foe Robin had won against in battle but lost to in the overall war. But Robin had never met Gray until he was found standing half naked in Raven's room.
What did Gray really want from Raven? Robin begrudgingly admitted that Gray did not have the appearance or visage of a villain. He didn't treat anyone with disrespect besides Robin, and even then Gray seemed to piss the Boy Wonder off like it was a plan. And although Robin was upset that Raven brought Gray along on missions, he stayed out of Robin's way.
Perhaps Robin was more upset about how Gray was now the one who caught her when she fell out of the sky. Or maybe it was that Gray rose to protect her with a simple pipe as his choice of weapon. Robin stood up and yanked his shirt over his head. He sighed and sat on the edge of his bed with his arms crossed over his chest.
"-are you doing?"
Robin abruptly stood up. "Raven?"
"-no I don't think this-" her voice was faded, and echoed throughout the empty room.
Robin jogged to the door and ran into the hallway. "Raven? Where are you?" He looked left, and then right. His heart began to throb erratically and, suddenly, a piercing sound rang in his head. He yelped, grabbing his head with both hands.
Robin withered onto his carpeted floor, feeling his head being yanked this way and that. His eyes shut tight; screams escaped his lips as he tried to fortify his mind. He rolled onto his stomach and inched his way over to his communicator, which was lying on top of his bed. "D-Damn it."
"Just leave it. Let go, Robin, come see what I get to do." a cocky voice enticed him further, "Don't get your tights up in a wad."
Bright strobe-like lights flashed in Robin's head. He felt himself slipping away. His mind grappled to thin air and his vision began to cloud over.
"- okay?"
Robin grunted and his eyes felt like someone was trying to pry them open. He gave a sharp intake of breath and tasted soda in his mouth. With a sharp almost exasperated yank, Robin felt slammed into something that wasn't entirely unfamiliar.
"Hello?" Raven's voice was clearer now. It was like she was right next to him. He felt her fingers lightly run across his forearm, making warmth spread across his skin. "What's wrong?" her voice hinted with worry.
"Nothing." Robin opened his eyes, astonished at hearing his own voice. His lips curved into a smile. He first saw Raven's quizzical brows, then her figure became less hazy. "I'm fine, honest." He blinked rapidly looking down at Raven beside him. "So you worry about me after all?" He asked with an eyebrow raised.
She frowned. "Don't be ridiculous, you can take care of yourself."
"Uh-huh." Robin said distractedly. His fingers lightly touched hers and he held her hand gently. "It's nice here."
Robin moved his head and his vision suddenly becoming clearer. He could see other people wandering around and a troupe of middle school students in a bunch. He blinked around himself, seeing a dinosaur skeleton high above enlightened by the overhead skylight. He inspected the display of marine animals behind Raven's head. He looked down at her with a smirk. "You aren't going to hit me for holding your hand too long?"
She slowly exhaled and looked up at him. "I'm getting used to it." She conceded with a dust of pink on her cheeks.
Robin felt his smile fade as he studied her expression. With his free hand he reached out slowly, waiting for her to move away. His ungloved hand touched her cheek and he pressed his palm against her skin. "Good, good." He muttered. Robin felt his body lean forward, testing the atmosphere. "You better move if this is too much for you." He paused; hope rising in his chest as Raven remained perfectly still. Her eyes were wide but she placed a hand on his chest without pushing him away.
The need to kiss her was very prominent but on whose side, Robin couldn't say. A soft smile touched his lips and he felt absolutely happy. Raven smiled back, a glow in her eyes. Robin felt the grip of something leave him and he leaned forward and closed his eyes. Soft lips touched his-
My turn! Came a chuckling voice. Tough luck, Robbie-poo.
Robin's world spun and his mind seemed to hit the ground with a thud. "Ow." He groaned and rolled over. Lips still tingling, he faced the ceiling and sighed. "What the hell."
"Hi Cyborg!" Gray called over his shoulder. Beside him, Raven flinched and kept her eyes down on the page of her book. She tried to ignore his fingertips brushing against her shoulder, but the pink on her cheeks wouldn't go away, no matter how hard she tried to concentrate.
"Hi guys!" Beast Boy followed close behind the half human robot and jumped over the couch to sit next to Gray. "Where were you guys?"
"Museum." Gray smirked. Raven pinched his elbow and he grinned.
"That sounds boring." Beast Boy made a face.
"What did you do, Gray?" Cyborg knocked the black haired teen on the back of the head.
Gray shrugged, "A true gentleman doesn't tell." His arm around Raven pulled her closer to him. "Raven knows."
Cyborg rolled his eyes and Beast Boy leaned forward. "So you guys are dating?"
Gray only smirked and countered. "How's that pizza girl, Beast Boy?"
Beast Boy blushed crimson. "I-Its fine!"
"Did you kiss her?" Gray waggled his eyebrows. "Did you guys make out?"
Beast boy held up both hands. "Stop, stop!"
"How about you Cy, how's Bee?"
Cyborg froze. "Oh uh, WHAT? I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Sure, sure." Gray waved his hand away. "Just want to let you know that I'm all for it. I know how tough it is to have a relationship with this superhero business. But if that person really matters, it'll work out eventually. So don't give up, okay?"
"That from personal experience?" Cyborg asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Ahaha." Gray grinned. "Kinda." He winked.
"Robin, please wait." The doors behind the group of four slid open and Robin jogged in with Starfire on his heels. He headed straight for Gray and, before anyone could stop him, he held Gray by the collar of his shirt.
Staring into his eyes, Robin sneered. "You, come with me."
Raven's hand stopped Robin's. "Why?"
Robin recoiled from her touch and stepped back. His cheeks colored slightly and he took a deep breath. "I just need to…"
"I didn't do anything wrong today, you know. I was with Raven all day." Gray smoothed his shirt and stood up to face Robin. "I behaved myself quite well." He paused. "You should know."
Robin stared grimly back with his lips in a tight line. "I don't have anything to say to that."
Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast boy glanced between the teens, leaning partially away just in case Robin exploded. Raven rose to her feet and touched Gray's shoulder. "What did you do to him?"
"Nothing bad." Gray replied honestly.
Robin grunted at the remark and motioned towards the door. "Let's go."
Gray's cocky attitude disappeared and thoughtfulness replaced it. "Let's go to the training grounds."
"Fine." Robin said steely between his gritted teeth. "Just hurry it up." He turned on his heel and marched out of the living room into the hallway.
Gray whistled once the doors closed behind Robin. "Well, he's grown up just a bit."
"Gray-" Raven started.
"Raven, stay here." Gray insisted with a reassuring smile. "It'll be okay, he just wants to talk about something. I can take care of myself, you know. Just trust me." He squeezed her hand and turned to follow Robin. Before the door closed behind him, he gave a thumbs up and winked at Raven.
No one said anything for a few moments but Starfire broke the silence. "Raven, why does Robin have a great dislike for Gray? He is indeed rude sometimes." She floated to her friend's side. "But he is good to you."
"Always." Raven confessed and looked around her circle of friends. "I'm sorry he's caused some trouble to all of you."
"Hey." Beast boy shook his head. "The only person's nerves he's getting on are Robin's. I have no problem with him. He's pretty cool in my opinion."
"He hasn't hurt you in anyway, has he?" Cyborg questioned with a crack of his knuckles.
Raven chuckled lightly. "No, he wouldn't ever do that."
"Friend Raven do you have the crush on this Gray?" Starfire teetered with a great big smile on her face. "He always watches you, even when you are not noticing him."
Raven hesitated, her eyes flickering towards the ground. "It's complicated."
"But he is important to you, yes? He is special." Starfire beamed when Raven slowly nodded. "That is most wonderful!"
"How are you, Star?" Raven changed the subject and sat back down on the couch. Starfire's eyes clouded over as she took the seat beside Raven. She wrung her hands in her lap and her bright smile slipped some. Raven pushed her book to the side and turned to give Starfire her full attention.
"I am… confused. " The Tamaranian professed. "I believe the customs of courtship on my planet are similar to those of Earth and yet I did not see that it would be like this."
Raven inwardly grimaced. She really didn't want to hear of the things Robin and Starfire did in their private time. Cyborg leaned over the back of the couch and cleared his throat, throwing a knowing glance in Raven's direction. "Something not going too well then?"
Starfire nodded with a frown to her lips. "I believed that this boyfriend-girlfriend ritual would be more… more… active?" She wagged her head. "Something is not right." She said quieter. "Robin is not right." Raven squirmed and her palms clenched painfully with her nails digging into her skin. "I do not know how to continue."
"Y-You're going to dump him?" Beast boy squeaked.
Starfire's eyes grew wide in surprise. "I do not wish to put him into the trash to be taken to the hill of uncleanliness."
"He means, are you are going to break up with him?" Cyborg interjected.
Starfire looked appalled. "I would not harm him in any way!"
"Not break him, break up with him." Raven ceded. "You want to separate from him."
Starfire's eyes began to manufacture tears. "I have to leave the Titans?"
"No, no" Beast Boy sighed. "It just means your boyfriend-girlfriend pact thing- whatever, is done. Kaput." He motioned into the air a cutting off signal. "You don't have to leave us."
"We wouldn't throw you out like that, and Robin wouldn't do that either." Raven sighed. "You can't leave me with all these idiots."
"Hey!" Cyborg and Beast boy chimed together.
Remaining perfectly straight-faced, Raven continued in her monotone voice, "Who else am I going to go shopping with and paint nails with late at night at sleepovers."
"Me!" Starfire threw her arms around Raven and rubbed her cheek against the sorceress's. "Because we are the very best of friends, yes? Yes?" she giggled.
"Yes, of course." Raven patted her back. "Everything will be fine in the end, sometimes you just have to wait it out and see."
Phew, okay. Finally, we're getting into Gray's supernatural powers. Creepy innit? I could only imagine having to do with a corporeal separate clone body housing one central emotion.
I can't believe this is only the fourth chapter! I'm amazed at how many reviews I have and so many followers.
Thanks for sticking with me! The next chapter is written and honestly has been for quite some time. Miss Giggly (my wonderful editor) and I are working out the kinks in it. Its going rather deep in a sense and I sort of wished I had put it in this chapter, but it was too long. It stands alone pretty well on it's own.
Review if you'd like and Happy New Year everybody! Hope it's going great!
