On with the story
Ratchet and the others Ran as fast as they possibly could towards Lucilla and her band of rebels. As soon as Ratchet got beside Lucilla, she pulled a knife and cut his hands free.
"Where did you get these many followers?" Ratchet asked
"I found resistance in the old shadow district" Lucilla replied
"Where did you get all of these weap- Argh!" Ratchet got shot in his side and he stumbled a bit from the pain.
"Are you okay Ratchet?!" Lucilla yelled
Ratchet put pressure on his wound with his hand to slow the bleeding "Just a flea bite, I think I can make it to the ship" Ratchet said through gritted teeth. He and Lucilla kept running, Lucilla turned around and fired her splitter rifle taking out a few more of Kane's men. Ratchet is falling back and moving slower, he was getting dizzy from blood loss. Lucilla noticed Ratchet slowing down so she threw his arm over her shoulder and helped him run. "Common Ratchet we need to move!"
Ratchet and Lucilla made it to Aphelion leaving a blood trail behind them. Ratchet was now unconscious from blood loss. "Give me a hand with him" Lucilla yelled. A few of the resistance came to Lucilla's aid, two of them provided suppression fire on the enemy while the other helped Lucilla lift Ratchet into the passenger seat of Aphelion. After Lucilla got Ratchet in Aphelion she climbed into the pilots' seat "Aphelion, take us to the Shadow district hideout". As Aphelion took off Lucilla administered nanotech to Ratchets wound. Lucilla felt a tear roll down her cheek seeing her mate in the condition that he was in "hang in there Ratch".
Aphelion landed at a large square building with a courtyard in the center that had three small landing pads along with multiple lombaxes sitting around fires. Lucilla opened the cockpit "Get me a corpsman, Ratchets wounded and I used the last of my nanotech on him, but we need more!" Lucilla yelled. Three lombaxes ran over to Aphelion with a hover stretcher. Lucilla and one of the corpsman gently lowered Ratchet down on the stretcher. "Let's get him to med bay, he's lost a lot of blood".
They pushed the stretcher through the building to the med bay; once there the doctors immediately went to work on Ratchet.
Lucilla sat down in the makeshift waiting room for an hour until the doctor came out and walked over to her. "We put him in a medically induced coma; it is the safest way that we could remove the bullet fragments in his abdomen. He should be ok now" the doctor said, Lucilla stood up from her chair "can I see him?" the doctor nodded "he's in the first room resting"
Lucilla made her way to Ratchets room; she slid the door open to see Ratchet lying on the bed sleeping with a life support machine hooked up to him. He had a bag of blood hanging next to him with a tube in his arm. Lucilla walked over to a chair that was positioned next to the bed and she sat down. Lucilla took Ratchets limp hand in her own "I really hope you will be okay Ratchet". Lucilla sat there for fifteen minutes in thought until the door slid open. Lucilla looked over her shoulder to see who it was; there standing with tears streaming down her face was Kate.
Kate sat down next to Lucilla and they shared an embrace. Kate let go of Lucilla and looked over to her son who was beaten and battered with bloody bandages wrapped around his torso. Kate stood up and pulled a blanket from the locker that was in the room and she laid it across Ratchet as he slept. "I never got the chance to be a mother to him, might as well start now".
Lucilla took Ratchets hand again but this time it felt clammy and his face showed an emotion that she had never saw Ratchet show…fear "I think he is having a nightmare"
(Ratchets dream)
Ratchet was sitting in the courtyard of the elder council watching as all of his friends were being murdered right in front of him and there was nothing that he could do about it. Kane arranged them so that Ratchet would be the last to die. First was General Pentigril Kane aimed and shot him in the head Then McGill and Weiss and then Kate. Just as Kane aimed the gun at Ratchets forehead he looked over to two of his men and gave some kind of a signal to them. The two men appeared with a pregnant Lucilla and they made her kneel in front of Ratchet. Lucilla looked Ratchet in the eyes; it was like she was staring straight through his soul. The last thing that Ratchet saw was Kane stabbing Lucilla in the stomach and twisting the knife around while laughing his maniacal laugh. Ratchet closed his eyes and when he opened them Lucilla was still kneeling in front of Ratchet but her skin started to shrivel up and she turned to bone and she started to turn to dust and blow away in the wind. As she was blowing away Ratchet heard a whisper "be strong for our child"
Ratchet rapidly opened his eyes and shot up in his bed but he wished he hadn't for his abdomen felt like ground meat. Lucilla and Kate both Jumped in slight shock causing Lucilla to fall out of her chair. "Ratchet are you alright?" Kate asked when she saw the fear and pain showing in Ratchets facial expressions. Ratchet looked over to his mom "other from the horrible nightmare I just had and the gaping hole in my side I think I'm pretty good" Ratchet said jokingly. Ratchet kept eyeballing Lucilla and Kate picked up on it "What is going on Ratchet, you have been eyeballing her since you woke" Ratchet lowered his head "I don't want you to put yourself in harm's way again Lucilla, I can't lose you". Lucilla hugged Ratchet which made him cringe from the pain "and I can't lose you either Ratchet".
