Let me start this off by saying – I am so sorry. I've been getting e-mails, messages and everything. I realize I haven't updated in far longer than I ever would have expected.
A lot of things have happened since I uploaded the last chapter. I was in a car accident and my car was totaled. My Mom was in the hospital, then my Grandmother. Thankfully both of them are home now and safe and sound. Last but not least, my amazing Aunt who had a hand in raising me passed away from cancer. It hasn't been a good year. But never fear! I refuse to give up on this story. It will be completed! On top of all of that, I've been switching around jobs and finally got settled into one, and I have to take my husband to work due to us only having one car at the moment. My schedule is just all kinds of crazy at the moment.
Thank you everybody for your kind words, reviews, messages, alerts, etc. You don't know how much they mean to me or how large of a smile it puts on my face to know others enjoy it.
Without further adue! Let the chaos begin.
The young woman's eyes roamed around the inside of the palace. Various golden items were piled around the room, nearly covering the marble floor. Even the furniture seemed to have been made from solid gold. 'Where I come from, this would be enough to feed everybody and turn them all richer than the pharaoh himself.' She mused to herself.
"Ma'lady. He will see you now please continue through the doors. I can lead you no further." The servant she was following spoke. He bowed to her and politely excused himself before carrying on to do his other duties. She scoffed. What did he seriously have to do in the afterlife that was so important? Let alone why couldn't he go further in? Unless… Her eyes narrowed before she looked ahead into the room before her. The only reason a person from the afterlife should go into certain areas would be if they commanded not to do so. The only one with that power would be Ra, the Sun God. The God of all God's. 'Well then. What would he possibly want with me?' She thought to herself before approaching the large doors and walked in.
"I have been expecting you..." A strong and masculine voice boomed through the room. He was shielded by a curtain hanging around the futon on the ground. No matter how she squinted she couldn't get even the mildest of guesses of what he may look like. "Well, if my presumptions are correct then you would be none other than Ra. If that's the case then you should be expecting everything, should you not?" The young woman replied smartly, a smug grin resting on her lips. "You should bite your tongue. Most would not use sass with the one who is giving them a second chance at life."
Hearing this from the God in front of her she could help the feeling of hope that rushed through her. "You're willing to give me a second chance?" She asked, trying to force the hopeful tone out of her voice, the last thing she needed was to look too desperate. "Why would you do this?"
She felt the rumble around the room from Ra's chuckle more than she heard it. "You want your revenge, correct? If so I will once more tell you to bite that tongue before I change my mind. You are to ask me no questions, am I understood?" She bowed her head slightly, giving him her silent word to do as he commands. "Now, come closer. We have much to discuss." He said. As she started to step closer to the futon the large golden doors were slammed shut. She knew better than to think it was something like the wind or even a servant doing it. This was the almighty Ra, and if he wanted the doors shut, none would be able to enter. What was she about to get herself into?
The first three of Kagome's classes went along rather uneventfully. 'Last class of the day. Then what am I going to do?' She thought to herself with a sigh before walking into her next class. The last thing she wanted was to go straight home after school ended. She knew rationally she had to, she had to be there to try to protect her mother.
She glanced around the classroom, noticing how most of the seats were already taken. All except for the three in the last row. She was more than content to sit in the back, especially for homeroom. Making her way to the seat closest to the window she looked to see if she had any of her previous classes with anybody. 'Nope, not a single familiar face.' She thought to herself with a defeated sigh and plopped into her seat.
It was strange how much a few years could do, Kagome mused to herself. Just a few short years ago she used to thrive in school. Constantly got straight 'A's and was always close to the top of her class. Except for math of course. She would be excited to wake up in the morning to get dressed, go hang out with her friends and look forward to a future where she could make something out of herself. Now? Now she just wanted all this bullshit to be over and done with. She didn't really have time for school, but used it as an escape from her home life that became a true living hell.
Right before the bell rang the boy with the most incredible amethyst eyes – Marik? Kagome was nearly positive that's what he said his name was – came strolling in the room. A boy around his height with pure white hair and a scowl on his face followed close behind him. The loud ruckus they were making pulled her out of her silent musing.
The teacher sighed at the front of the class. "I'm very pleased the two of you even decided to show up, but do try to do it a bit more silently next time, would you?" She told them while shaking her head slightly. Kagome could see a small hint of a smile resting on her lips though; obviously she had a soft spot for the two boys.
"Sorry Ms. Kyoma!" Marik smiled at her sheepishly. "We wouldn't even have had to run to class if it wasn't for Bakura, he had to… take care of something."
Mrs. Kyoma held up her hands. "I don't even want to know, please just take your seats." She gently told them before turning towards the rest of the class. Marik and his 'Bakura' friend traded smirks before making their way to the only other available seats. The ones on either side of Kagome. She nearly slammed her head on her desk. Why she decided to sit in the middle she would never know. On the bright side, she already knew one of them and they were each at least fairly attractive. Hopefully they didn't drag her into more trouble than she was already going to cause herself. Thankfully, they both silently took their seats and waited for the teacher to speak. Kagome did her best to not look at either of them and keep her eyes fixed on the teacher.
"Welcome to homeroom everybody! My name is Ms. Kyoma, I'm sure we're all going to get along splendidly. Though most of the classes you were in gave you homework and will continue to do so, don't worry about it here. Consider this class more of a study hall. I don't mind if you talk, but please don't be loud. The only rules I really have are don't be late, no cellphone's in class and at least attempt to be on time. Although I don't like to give homework, I will if we have an issue. We also will have to do a project for each quarter. We'll get into that next class though. If anybody needs help with anything, feel free to let me know!" She told everybody pleasantly before going to her desk.
Kagome blinked. Well, this would be an easy class. She was thankful that she had at least one easy 'class' and wouldn't have to worry about a dick at the end of every school day that would bury them all in homework. At least she had something nice to end each day with. At least, before she would have to go back home.
"Well, pleasure to see you again." Marik caught her attention and she couldn't help but laugh as he sent a wink her way. "Good to know I have somebody worth wild in a class with me."
"What the fuck am I then?" His friend sneered from the seat to right. "Plus, you're rude. You haven't even bothered to introduce her to the man that can make her scream."
Kagome's eyebrow twitched but before she could come back with a smart remark Marik sighed.
"You're always the sweet one aren't you?"
She turned to face his friend as he smirked before catching her eyes. Her bright sapphire one meeting with a bright emerald and she had to force herself to look away from them. What was with these two? They were obviously friends, both were handsome and both had unusual eye colors for being in Japan. Not that she was one to talk, but she had her reasons!
"Of course, I'm always sweet. It's one of my many wonderful points, not that I have any bad ones. Go ahead and try to name some." He said smugly, the smirk never leaving his face.
"Other than the fact that you're obviously an arrogant, conceded asshole? None as far as I can tell. Then again, we did just meet." Kagome blurted out calmly as she grabbed a notebook and a pen from her backpack.
Marik started coughing to hide his laughter as Bakura sent a glare towards her. "What's your name, girl?"
"Well I can tell you right damn now that my name isn't 'girl', boy." She spat right back and sent a glare just as nasty at him. Two could play at this game. "My name is Kagome. Ka-Go-Me. Do your best to try to remember it."
Bakura laughed lightly before the glare faded slightly and he smirked. She hated to admit it, but the smirk suited him.
"Well then little Kagome, you may call me Master. Then again, I'd love to hear my name rolling off your tongue."
Kagome bit her lip and leaned a little closer towards him, unaware of Marik's unsure look at her back. She bit her lip seductively, as she looked him right in the eyes. "Well then Bakura…" She purred. The arrogant smile on Bakura's face was growing wider, clearly believing that his 'charm' had won her over as it had for all the others in the past. "Why don't you go fuck yourself or find a hooker on the street to call you master? You might not even have to go that far, I'm sure Yatsume would be more than willing." She winked at him before settling back in her seat and proceeding to doodle like she didn't do anything.
Marik couldn't help it, he burst out laughing. The way Kagome handled Bakura was perfect, along with the look on his face like he couldn't believe a woman would dare speak to him like that was a perfect Kodak moment. He would have killed to have a camera right then.
"Well! Glad you both get along so splendidly." He laughed and Kagome couldn't help but let out a light laugh of her own.
Bakura huffed in his corner before proceeding to take out his own notebook. "Well… you may be a bitch but at least you're not a brainless one."
She could feel her eyebrow twitch and opened her mouth to let him have it before Marik's hand rested on her arm. A jolt of electricity raced up her arm and she looked over at him. She gulped as she met his eyes again – she couldn't help the sudden feeling like she knew him. She knew they had just met this morning but something deep in her soul was telling her something else. She brushed it aside for now before trying to give her full attention to him.
"Don't worry about him. In his own fucked up Bakura kind of way, he was saying that he approves of you. Don't take it like he's not going to be an asshole, he still will be. Just… not as bad as it would be if he didn't like you."
"… I can accept that. Doesn't mean I'll be all peaches and cream to him either though." She huffed. Little did they know how caring of a person she actually was; So far, these two were as close to friends as she had. Even though they just met and knew nothing about each other, she would care for her friends. Just possibly make it a bit difficult on them along the way.
I know I made Bakura's eyes green, but I have a reason for this! In the first season, Bakura has either green or purple eyes. In the second season, they're brown. I never was fond of his brown eyes and I wanted there to be a shocking difference in Bakura's and Marik's eye color. Hopefully ya'll don't mind.
Once again, I'm so sorry about the wait for this one. X.x This is the last of the chapters I had typed to have re-vamped from the previous version, everything else is lost in one of my old notebooks. So from here on out it's all new. Please review and let me know what you think! Also, I'm undecided on the pairing. So do feel free to vote!
