Months passed. Once a week, the girls would go on a picnic to secretly train Serenity. Every week she was slowly growing stronger. She could use her tiara like a boomerang and was slicing Mercury's ice orbs in half, cutting out Jupiter's electrical storms, tangling Venus's chain, and smoldering Mars's fireballs. No amount of time apart made her love for Endymion waver, and her dedication to getting back to him proved most helpful. Finally, finally it was time for them to attempt to go to Earth.
Artemis had become steadily angrier and angrier at Venus. She was good at training, but flippant and never wanted to be around him. He was jealous of many things. Luna's bond with Serenity, Venus's lack of responsibility, her carefree attitude, and her hopeful wishes to see someone she fancied herself in love with.
The cats had been having many meetings, but they seemed to increase lately. Artemis wanted to punish Venus, but there truly was no probable cause to actually discipline her. He trained her viciously and her workout always left her sore and exhausted, but there was nothing else he could do. She hadn't broken any rules he could find, and he had been searching ceaselessly to find something to discipline properly.
The night was calm and peaceful. A late night meeting with the cats was the perfect opportunity. Mercury called them all into Mars's room and they stood in a circle, each holding onto one another's hands. Serenity was in her dress, but a bag upon Venus's shoulders held her uniform and the sword they needed. One by one, they recited the words to help tap into their powers.
"Mercury Planet Power!"
"Mars Planet Power!"
"Jupiter Planet Power!"
"Venus Planet Power!"
"Moon Planet Power!"
There was a rush of power and then, slowly, an orb formed. In a heartbeat they were gone, leaving behind a rumble that sounded like a thunderstorm from Jupiter. Artemis ran into the room before Luna, but there was nothing left except a bit of a mess.
His eyes wide, the cat ran back to Luna to inform her that the girls were gone.
"We can't tell the Queen, Artemis, she'll never forgive us!"
"Yeah, but… how will we get to Earth?"
"I know a way."
The two cats ran off with every intention of going to Earth, getting the girls, returning them to the Moon, doling out punishments, and making sure this never happened again, all before the Queen realized just what had been going on.
The orb landed in a beautiful garden. Mars had been in charge of landing them near the Generals and Prince. What she didn't intend to do was land them right on the palace grounds. Soon guards were everywhere, surrounding the girls and pointing swords at them. The protectors of the Moon Princess stood in a circle around her. Four men came out of the palace, brows raised, looking skeptical.
"Oh, if it isn't the inhabitants of the Moon Kingdom… Drop your weapons." Kunzite offered a bit of a lazy smile to Venus and a particularly raised brow, as if admiring the fact she had broken rules to get there. He approved of what she had done, mostly because it was ballsy of her. "Miss me?"
"K-Kunzite," Venus muttered, blushing a bit.
Endymion came up behind the generals to see what was going on. When he saw Serenity, his eyes grew wide. The princess broke away from her guardians and ran to the man's open arms, hugging him tightly.
"You shouldn't have come," he whispered against her hair.
"I missed you so much," she replied, delicate tears making little glistening lines upon her cheeks.
"So, they're here. What should we do?" Nephrite ran a hand through his loose hair, looking at Jupiter and then away. He did not mind they were there, but he was trying to be nonchalant about it and failing.
"Well we can't just send them away…" Zoisite smiled a bit at Mercury and nodded to the girl. Finally, someone there that he could talk to as an equal.
"Might as well let them stay until they get dragged back by their own people," Jadeite added. He wasn't really smiling, but he was subtly looking at Mars and then at his gloved hands.
"Works for me," Kunzite said, offering Venus a hand. She took it and they walked close to one another, leaning their heads together and murmuring quietly. Endymion and Serenity followed them, even closer than the first two.
Jupiter looked at Nephrite and he showed a sheepish smile. They laced fingers in a shy way and walked together, discussing things of no importance. Mercury and Zoisite, even though they did not hold hands or look particularly close, discussed political events that had been happening on each planet. Mars and Jadeite looked at one another, sighed, and grumbled about the leaders of their respective groups.
Before anything else could happen, Endymion insisted the visiting girls got a tour of their lands. So each one was assisted onto a General's horse and a fine day of riding, talking, and bonding ensued. Sere had changed into her Senshi uniform, which Endymion admired, and he changed into casual riding clothes. Pretty much he took off his pauldrons and cape so he wouldn't weigh so much. Kunzite had Venus sitting in front of him on his silver colored horse, one arm firmly around her waist, the other holding onto his reigns. Zoisite was sitting with Mercury in front of him, holding onto the reigns, but there was some distance between them that could be seen. Little smiles were fleeting, but there. Mars was upon Jadeite's stallion side-saddle, and he was riding normally, so it looked very strange since they appeared to be bickering again, but there was no actual hate there, just childish and silly squabbles. Jupiter was leaning back against Nephrite, gazing up at him and blushing, her head upon his shoulder, their fingers entwined as they both held onto the reigns. Sere and Endymion were cuddled up on his horse, she riding side saddle, but with him holding her, so it was much easier to ride. They made it look so elegant.
The tour of the grounds was lovely and ended with a picnic by the water. Sere was the most excited, for she could see the blue sky, feel the blowing breeze, and enjoy the scenery of Earth. While they were sitting there, all lazing about with one another, vague conversations were happening.
"Oh Endymion, I love your planet… I wish the Moon was so beautiful," Sere started.
"It is Serenity, but in other ways…"
"I… I wish I had been born on Earth with you. Then it would be alright for us to be together."
Endymion looked down at his serafuku-clad princess and grinned. "Oh yes? And what, would we get married?"
"Of course! And have lovely children." Serenity was blushing, but she was sincere.
Venus looked over at the royal couple and smiled, sitting between Kunzite's legs, a hand upon his, her head leaning against his chest. "They are adorable…"
"If not a bit simple minded," he replied, a teasing smile showing about his features.
Venus looked up, about to give him a retort, when Kunzite leaned down and pressed his mouth to the blonde warrior's, holding the hand that had been on his. Turning scarlet, the leader of the senshi leaned back into the embrace, sliding her other hand into his silver locks. Everyone was staring at them, mixed expressions of shock and awe on their faces.
When Kunzite finally pulled away, the crimson hued Venus opened her mouth to say something, sputtered, and then sighed, giving up.
"I didn't realize this was a public show," a voice said from nearby. Everyone jumped a bit and tensed up, hands on weapons as they stood.
Artemis and Luna, both in human form, were standing near the bottom of the hill. The white haired male was glaring daggers at Kunzite and Venus, while Luna looked confused at Serenity, particularly the odd getup she was in.
"A-A-Artemis," Venus stuttered, still blushing.
"You are a sham of a leader," he said, his jaw tense. "Princess Serenity, to fall so low… it is disgraceful. You should all be ashamed."
Luna looked disappointed and sighed, glancing down at her feet. Artemis was beyond livid at Venus and there was nothing she could say to stop him. He had been very close to Venus's mother, but he had such high expectations, and the leader was not living up to them at all.
"We are leaving." Artemis waited, and slowly, the princesses left the men who were standing there, embarrassment on their faces. Artemis narrowed his eyes at Venus and said so they could all hear, "You will be relieved of your duty as leader of the Senshi. Obviously you are not qualified for the job."
Venus looked shocked, tears already welling up in her eyes. The cats-turned-humans said something in a strange tongue and an orb appeared, whisking them away, leaving nothing but a bit of a divot in the ground where they had stood.
"Oooh, those Moon Kingdom… Goody goodies…" A woman behind a tree slipped away, having seen everything. Her plans were forming quickly and coming to a head. She knew what had to be done, and it had to happen soon.
