A/N: so! Chapter 11 is now up! :) Once I got into the swing about hinhings, it really made it easy to keep uploading. This story is going to have a sequel that I am already working on. It is currently untitled right now, but it will be about the group recovering from what has happened throughout FTTTF and will surround the relationship between Jax and Tara. I'm open to suggestions about names for it!
Previously on Freight Train to the Future...(I've always wanted to do that :)
"She's fine, as you can tell from her harpy scream from the floor. I shot her in the shoulder. Trust me, when I shoot to kill her, I won't miss my target."
Chibs and Tig helped Gemma up off the floor and checked her wound.
"Nice shot, Jackie Boy. Clean shot through the muscle of her shoulder. It'll hurt like hell, but it'll heal." Chibs said.
"Oh shut up, Chibs." Gemma snapped at him.
"Shit! Opie, just remembered that Hale is on his way to the hospital. You know he won't miss the chance to find something out, especially with Tara. Can you go there to be with her and Donna? I'll call Tara right now." Opie didn't even reply to Jax, just flew out the door to his bike.
Jax got out his phone and scrolled to find the prepay3 contact. The phone rang three times before a very tired sounding Tara answered the phone.
"Jax?"
"Yeah, babe, it's me. Listen, I'm sorry but David Hale is on his way over there. Him and that fucking ATF agent stopped by the club. He caught wind that you were in the hospital and he's headed there now. He's deputy chief so he thinks everything in Charming is his business. After what went down here I don't think that Kohn will show up, but be prepared if he will."
Tara took a sharp intake of breath. "What went down there, Jax? Are you alright?"
"Yeah, seems how I'm not the one bleeding out on the couch I'd say I was fine." Jax said, shooting a hard look to his mother.
"Jax! What happened? Who was hurt?" She asked, thinking of the worst possible situations.
"Gemma."
Tara's heart calmed down considerably. "Oh, alright then. You're okay though?" Jax laughed.
"Don't sound so excited babe. Yeah, I'm fine. Opie is on his way there now and should be there shortly. Love you." He hung up before Tara could answer him. Clay was advancing on him quickly.
"Why the fuck did you shoot your mother?" he asked.
"You'd shoot me if I ratted on you. Your just blinded by the fact that she is your old lady. You can't let that happen. Tara said it best. Bad things happen when hate clouds judgment." Jax said, and turned his back on Clay.
Back at the hospital, Tara was fidgeting waiting for them to show up.
"Tara, you'll be fine. Wayne is right outside guarding the door and Opie will be here soon. Nothing is going to happen to you."
Just then, David Hale burst through the door.
"Tara! What happened to you?"
"Hello to you too, David. Nothing, I'm fine." she peered around him, looking for Josh.
"If you're looking for Agent Kohn, I dropped him off at the station. Gemma made some insinuating comments about the reason you're here. Did he do this to you?"
"You talked to Gemma?" Tara asked him, feeling more scared then she liked.
"Yeah, I escorted Agent Kohn to Teller-Morrow to relinquish some deal she had made against Jax. He basically threw her under the bus. But it seemed like they already knew since when I got there Gemma was handcuffed and had a bruise forming on the side of her face." he didn't know that Jax had been the one to hit his mother when they were in the van together.
"Oh." was all Tara was able to say. If Jax was back, that meant that everyone knew about what was going on. She should care that her business was being displayed for everyone to see, but she didn't. She didn't want Jax to go to prison for something she might have set in motion. She was having a hard time feeling sorry for Gemma at this point. Hell, the reason Tara was laying in this hospital bed was because of Gemma's hate for her.
"Sorry David, I'm just not ready to talk about things yet." Tara knew that David wouldn't push the issue when she said that. He was always the nice guy, and she wasn't surprised he went into law enforcement.
Opie came through the door then, out of breath and red faced.
"Oh, hey Hale. Funny meeting you here." Opie said walking over to Tara's bedside. He laid a kiss on his wife's head and did the same to Tara. It confused Hale, but not enough to mention anything about it.
"So, no one is going to tell me what's going on with this situation?" Hale asked the group.
Everyone just looked at each other and shook their heads. If Opie wasn't going to say anything, Tara knew it was for the best that she don't either. Hale had lost all his patience and left the room to talk to Unser.
"So, what happened to Gemma? Jax said she was bleeding on the couch." Tara asked, showing more interest then she wanted.
Opie laughed. "Jax shot her in the shoulder."
Donna and Tara both whipped their heads around to look at Opie.
"WHAT!?" Tara exclaimed.
"Well what did you expect, Tara? This isn't over. Gemma will be lucky to make it out alive. She was ranting about how Jax ruining everything by being with you. How she did what Clay would have done. And then she tried saying something about 'that deadbeat John' and Jax just got his gun out and shot her. He's a good shot so she'll be fine. I can't say Jax's anger will keep him from killing her, but she got lucky this time."
At the sound of John's name, Tara and Donna looked at each other. There was an unspoken truce between them that they wouldn't tell, but with Jax's reaction, they weren't sure. Donna knew that Jax had an idea about what happened to John and he believed his mother might have something to do with it, but knowing for a fact would definitely send him over the edge.
"What? What's wrong?" Opie asked them, breaking the trace the two had going.
"Opie, is there any way you could get Jax to come here?"
"No, he won't leave the clubhouse as long as Gemma is there." Opie said seriously.
"Okay, then I'll check out of here." she said, pressing her nurse call button.
"Tara, you can't do that!"
"I'm a doctor, I know what to do if something goes wrong." She said that, and hoped to god it were true.
After filling out paperwork, and very vehement arguments from the doctors, Tara signed the refusal of treatment papers and was released to leave with Opie and Donna. She knew this probably wasn't the best thing to do, but she had to get to Jax, to talk to him about things before it was too late. He needed to know things about his father and what happened to him.
"Tara, are you sure about this? This could be a big mistake, leaving like this."
"Donna, I have to talk to Jax. It's important."
"I can relay whatever you want to him." Opie tried talking her into to staying, and would do about anything to keep her there.
"No, I need to do this. He needs to know how John died. He needs to know so he can make it right. And if I know Jax, he will make it right."
-FTTTF-
Donna drove Tara to the clubhouse in the truck, and Opie followed on the bike. They were able to slip past Hale and Unser as they were off getting coffee.
Opie ran into the clubhouse and made a beeline for Jax.
"Dude, I'm sorry. I did everything I could, but she wouldn't listen. Please, don't hit me." Opie said. Jax's mind was reeling. He immediately thought Tara was gone.
He was about to open his mouth to ask Opie what was going on when the door opened behind him. Donna was the first one in, followed very closely by a very haggard, broken looking Tara.
"Tara, what the fuck are you doing here? You should be at the hospital. Look at you, you can barely walk!" Jax admonished her.
She was panting, trying to catch her breath. Her broken rib was painful and it was making it hard to breathe.
"I'm sorry Jax. I knew you wouldn't leave the clubhouse with her here, and I needed to talk to you, it's urgent."
"So you didn't just call me on the phone?" he asked.
"No, I didn't. I needed to tell you this to your face." She doubled over in pain. "I need to sit down."
Jax rushed her over to the other couch, opposite Gemma. Gemma had a hard look set in place as she held the towel to her shoulder.
"You shouldn't be here right now, Tara. You should be at the hospital resting and getting the medicine you need to heal."
"But Jax, it's about your dad."
"Don't you fucking dare bring shit up you don't know anything about." Clay yelled in her face.
"Clay, what the fuck? Calm down." Tig said.
"She doesn't even know John, how can she have information about him?" Jax was getting more anxious by the second.
"Tara, what do you know? Please tell me, and then let me take you back to the hospital."
"I don't want to go back, Jax. But you might want to sit down for this."
"Tara what is going on, you're freaking me out here. "
"When Gemma threatened me and I left ten years ago, she threatened to kill me. She said if she had no hesitancy in killing her husband she'd be able to kill me. Said I was just some slut get son was fucking."
"Tara, please. I know you wouldn't make shit like that up. Please tell me you're not serious."
"Of course she's not. John died in a motorcycle accident." Piney said. "Right, Gemma?"
Gemma just sat there quietly, thinking it were best just to keep quiet. If she got mad, she'd say me shit she didn't mean to.
Jax hung his head, too distraught to even think about what this meant. His mother killed his father, maybe not directly, but she still had her hand in it. Piney however wasnt too distraught. He walked up to Gemma and grabbed her by the hair.
"I'm just going to say one thing. If Jax doesn't kill you soon, I'll do it myself."
To Gemmas intense surprise and fear, everyone nodded in agreement.
Tara put her hand on Jax face.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't want to tell you, but I couldn't keep it from you either. I love you Jax. I hate seeing you in pain."
Jax looked up at her, tears in his eyes.
"I love you too. I'm sorry for what I have to do next. But it has to be done. Please don't hate the man I've become."
Fear filled Tara as Jax got up and went to the group of men.
"Do we need to vote?"
"Absolutely not. We all agree with what you're going to do. If you don't do it soon, you won't get the chance." Tig said glumly.
Jax went over to Gemma and pulled her up by the arm.
"ouch Jax be careful. That's the arm you shot me in." Gemma said sarcastically.
Jax looked down at her. His eyes were filled with so much pain and anguish.
"Don't worry Ma, it won't hurt much longer."
