"What the fuck, Clay!" Opie said from the floor. He was laying down clutching his thigh. Blood could be seen, but it didn't look too bad.

"Why did you shoot me Clay?" Opie asked wincing in pain.

"I didn't mean to. You got in the way. "

Everyone was confused for a minute until it all clicked into place. Opie was standing in front of Tara and Donna and when all the commotion started he took a defensive position in front of them. If Clay would have hit his target, Tara would be dead.

Jax was enraged. He thought about his options.

"I could put another bullet in your head, but I won't. John suffered for two days because of you. And Tara sufferered too much for you to have an easy death."

Clay gasped and cclutched his chest. "Did you make your mom suffer?"

Bile rose in Jax throat when he thought about it. But he put on a front and turned on his menacing voice.

"No, I didn't. She told me what I needed to hear and then I shot her point blank in the head. I didn't take the cowards way out. I looked her in the eyes when I killed her. Something neither of you two had the decency to do with John. She knew why she was dying. Did you give that same respect to my father before you killed him? "

"Your father was... A.. fool. He didn't know what he was doing with this club anymore then you will. You'll fail. Opie will end up killing you and taking your spot. Mark my words."

To everyone's surprise it was Donna that spoke next.

"how dare you? My husband is a good man. He would never turn his back on his friends the way you did. Opie would talk tojJax about things and do it the right way. Opie doesn't resolve to murder to get what he wants." she didn't move from her spot on the couch, but she was shaking with anger.

"We all start out as good men. We all don't end up that way."

Everyone was standing by, waiting for Clay to take his last breath, but it still hadn't come.

He gasped for breath and spoke his final words.

"I wish you had been on that bike with John." With that, the room was at a stand still.

Everyone was shocked. No one knew what to say. John loved taking Jax for rides on his bike and Jax would have been there too had he not been in school that day.

"Jesus Christ. This is such a fucking mess Jax. How did this club get to where it is now? How did this happen?" Bobby asked.

"It happened because two people thought they deserved more then the world had given them. And they did whatever necessary to make sure that happened."

After a few minutes of silence for the fallen people, Jax got right down to business.

"Tig call Skeeter. Tell him we have two bodies that need disposed of. Bobby, pull extra money out of the safe, we're going to owe him big for this one. Tara if you're refusing to go to the hospital I want you and Donna to head back to their place. I'll send prospect and Happy with you. Piney, get the van." Jax then turned his attention to Juice. "You're not leaving my sight until I figure out what I want to do with you."

"Jax, what if he comes back? What then?" Tara asked

Jax walked over to her and placed both hands on either side of her face.

"You'll be perfectly safe with Happy. Trust me. They don't call him Mr. Mayhem for nothing."

On the drive to Donnas house, Tara was quiet. She had so much going through her mind. Is this what it was like all the time? Blood and violence and betrayal? She had been in so many violent situations before, could she handle this? Could she handle constantly worrying about Jax and if he were safe? She wasn't sure what she could handle or what might come, but one thing she did know. If Jax was with her, she'd learn to handle anything.
