Charlotte Fields POV

"Good job Charlotte! That was your best time today." My swimming coach smiled, tapping her pen on the clipboard she was holding.

"Thanks." I muttered breathlessly. I hauled myself out of the pool and walked over to a small group of my teammates. I wrapped a towel around my body.

"You know whose looking extremely hot today. Noah Callen." Caroline Winchester exclaimed, clapping her hand together.

I made a face at her and started to wring the water out of my hair.

"He has such a great body!" Meaghan, her twin sister giggled. Meaghan and Caroline then turned towards where Noah was preparing to dive into the pool, they sighed simultaneously.

I couldn't stop myself from scoffing. "What?" Caroline asked defensively.

I turned a bright shade of red and looked down at my feet, "It's just that we're here for swimming and all you care about is stalking the attractive guys on our team." I muttered softly.

"I would hardly call it stalking." Meaghan said.

"Meg you followed him to his car last week." Caroline whispered.

"Shut up Caroline!" Meaghan squealed.

"I'm surrounded by morons." I murmured. I usually try to be an extremely considerate person but these two really get on my nerves.

"What was that?" Caroline asked.

I raised my eyebrows in surprise, "Nothing."

"Anyway as I was saying, you can still swim for the team and appreciate the hotness of our male teammates. Last week Noah looked at me during swim practice and I think I literally died afterwards." Meaghan said, clearly very pleased with herself. Literally died, if Brielle was here she would have definitely shut Meaghan up right there, she hates it when people use English incorrectly.

"Too bad Noah doesn't talk to anyone." Caroline said sadly.

"Maybe he has some heartbreakingly tortured past that made him the way he is." Meaghan mused.

"Or maybe he just doesn't like anyone at the school." I added. Meaghan and Caroline glared at me.

"Oh my god he's coming this way!" Caroline squeaked, madly slapping Meaghan's arm.

After hoisting himself out of the pool Noah flicked his hair to rid his locks of the crystal droplets which were soaking it. This simple movement elicited a love-struck sigh from Meaghan and Caroline. Noah started walking towards the male change rooms. His ocean blue eyes flickered around the room until they finally landed on me.

"Hey Charlotte." Noah smiled, walking past me into the change rooms.

"Hi." I curtly replied. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Meaghan and Caroline gaping at me.

As soon as Noah was out of sight Meaghan and Caroline whirled towards me. "I thought you didn't like him!" They exclaimed

"I don't like him." I reassured them, holding my hands up in surrender.

"Well he obviously likes you." Caroline spat, emphasising the last word.

"Yeah Charlotte, Noah doesn't talk to anyone. He obviously likes you." Meaghan said bitterly.

They both then spun around flipping their hair over their shoulder and walked away.

"What does she have that I don't have?" Caroline ranted to Meaghan, as they exited the pool.

"I don't know we're way better looking." Meaghan comforted her twin.

I rolled my eyes and quickly entered the women's change rooms. After changing out of my swimmers and into dry clothes I exited the pool and walked out to the street. I walked over to a bench and sat down as I waited for my moms to come and pick me up.

"How did you manage to get the Winchester twins on your bad side?" A voice asked from behind me.

I turned my head to see Noah walking towards me.

"Did you hear the conversation?" I questioned, absolutely dreading his answer.

"No, but I passed them on the way out and they seemed really pissed." Noah said, sitting next to me on the bench.

"Ah well the reason they're mad is because you acknowledged my existence." I said. Noah raised his eyebrow at me in confusion, "They're both madly in love with you and you don't acknowledge their presence." I clarified.

"That makes sense now." Noah answered. He lowered his voice, "I'm pretty sure one of them followed me to my car last week."

I laughed slightly, "Well this is the Winchester twins we're talking about." A moment of silence passed.

"You're really good at swimming." Noah said suddenly.

"Well I have to be." I said. "My moms were both professional swimmers."

"Moms?" Noah asked.

"Yeah moms. As in more than one." I snapped, suddenly becoming defensive. "Do you have a problem with that?"

"No of course not." Noah replied quickly. "My father is actually gay. That's why my parents divorced two years ago." I looked at him in surprise. Noah stiffened and looked like he regretted what he had said. "I shouldn't have dumped that on you. I'm sorry."

"It's completely fine." I said, smiling kindly at Noah. I had tried to avoid Noah in the past but that didn't mean I couldn't be nice to him. "I'm sorry about your parents."

The corner of Noah's lips turned up into a small smile, "It's not your fault."

"So are you adopted?" Noah asked, clearly trying to change to the subject.

"I am." I confirmed.

"I always thought it must be so cool to be adopted." Noah said.

"Really? Why?" I enquired.

"Because your moms loved you so much that they decided to adopt you. You weren't accidental, or unwanted." Noah said. "I always thought it must feel so good to be chosen."

"Do you not feel that way?" I asked inquisitively.

Noah opened his mouth to reply but was interrupted by a feminine voice calling his name. We both turned our heads to see an extremely impatient Winona staring daggers at her brother.

"You have to take me home." She demanded.

Noah rolled his eyes. "I'm coming." He winked at me, completely missing the look of alarm on my face, got off the bench and walked over to his sister.

Noah reached Winona and started to push her wheelchair across the car park. "What took you so long?" Winona whined.

"I was talking to someone." Noah replied.

"Since when do you talk to people?" Winona exclaimed, in an extremely disgusted voice.

I watched them walk away. I had reached up to push some hair away from my face when I realised my hand was shaking.

Calm down Charlotte, I mentally told myself. I couldn't act like this every time I saw Winona. The whole situation had been an accident.

An accident you caused, the little voice inside my head reminded me.

"Shut up." I muttered out loud.

(Line Break)

I lie on my bed and finish up my math homework. After spending twenty minutes struggling through math equations I finally give up and opt for staring at the wall instead.

"Charlotte?" A small voice calls from behind the door.

"You can come in Phoebe." I responded.

My little sister walked into the room, her dark brown curls bouncing as she walked over to my bed. She jumped onto the bed beside me. "Can I ask you a question?"

"Of course." I answered, putting down my pen and moving to sit beside my sister.

"Why do other kids have a mommy and a daddy and we just have two mommies?" Phoebe asked innocently. "Doesn't it take a mommy and a daddy to make a baby?"

"Phoebe you know that we're both adopted." I replied, brushing a strand of Phoebe's hair out of her dark brown eyes.

Phoebe scrunched her eyebrows in thought, "Does that mean our mommies aren't really our mommies."

"Not at all." I responded quickly. "Phoebe listen to me, blood doesn't make a family love does, and both our mothers love us very much."

Phoebe smiled slightly, then her eyes suddenly filled with tears. "If we're not actually related does that mean you're not really my sister?"

"Phoebe I'll always be your sister." I replied quickly, wrapping an arm around her small frame. "Family isn't always defined by our genes. It's the people in your life that love you and accept you no matter what. The ones that would do anything to make you happy, and the ones who love you unconditionally."

Phoebe hugged me tightly, "I think we have the best family then."

A smile spread on my face and I pressed a kiss to my sister's scalp, "I do too."

"Do you know your birth parents?" Phoebe asked, she looked at me curiously.

"No I don't." I replied.

"Oh ok." Phoebe said. "I love you Charlie." Phoebe giggled using the nickname that only she was allowed to call me.

"Love you too Feebs." I answered with a smile on my face. Phoebe then jumped off my bed and ran out of the room humming a Disney song under her breath.

I leant against the frame of my bed and sighed. Phoebe's question had really got me thinking. I knew absolutely nothing about my birth parents. It's not that it was absolutely essential for me to know information about them, I wasn't craving answers. I loved my family and I wouldn't change it for the world, but I would like to know where I came from.

Deciding that I would ask my parents about my birth parents I exited my room and went downstairs.

My mom Emily sat on the couch alone, I remembered my mom Paige saying she was going to the pool. Emily looked up when I entered the room.

"Hi honey." Emily said.

"Hi mom." I answered nervously, taking a seat opposite her.

"Is everything ok?" Emily asked, her features twisting into a look of concern.

I gulped apprehensively and started to fiddle with a loose thread on my shorts. "Can I ask you something?"

"Anything." Emily said, giving me a kind look.

I had started to regret my decision, the last I wanted to do was upset my moms. I sat on my hands to stop from fiddling, "I want to know about my birth parents." I blurted out.

Emily stared at me in surprise. "It's not that I don't love my family now." I quickly continued. "I would just like to know where I came from."

"I know honey." Emily smiled kindly. "I'm sorry but I don't actually know much about your birth parents. Just what we told you."

"That they were in high school and didn't want me." I sighed.

"The only other information I can give you is their names; Evelyn Cartier and Jack Nichols." Emily said.

"Thanks mom." I answered.

My mom enveloped me in a hug. "I'm sorry sweetie."

"It's ok." I smiled.

My mom got off the couch and kissed my forehead then left the room to get dinner ready.

My phone beeped from my pocket. I groaned and opened the message.

Looks like mommy is back to her lying ways.
You didn't actually believe her, did you?
-A

I looked in the direction my mom had gone. Why would she lie to me?
