Author's Note: Chapter 9. The 'conclusion', though short. I might do something else for this story in the future but for now it's done so I can focus on other stuff. I hope you enjoy. :3
Disclaimer: I do not own Resident Evil.
My day had went from ok to bad, to worse, to horrible, to shitty and then to hell very quickly. I'd seen the nightmare that created monsters, the man who hurt my brother and made all our lives a disaster. I went home only to be stormed and kidnapped by a fox mask wearing mercenary. I was taken to a warehouse and kept for awhile until saved by said blonde maniac.
I hadn't expected to be rescued, especially by my brother's arch-nemesis. I thought back to those few moments when I'd been tied up, unable to escape when my 'knight in shining armor' had appeared in full black and glasses atop the nose. What was his deal? Were his motives as simple as the man claimed? He wanted to kill the Redfields? No, from what I gathered and the stories about him I easily deduced that the motivation for his actions weren't so black and white. Wesker was far too fickle to let his enemy's sister just walk away scot-free. Something wasn't right.
Seeing Chris again.. man, that had been wonderful. His scent, his presence, his voice.. they had soothed me immensely. His hug was always welcomed. It felt weird meeting Sheva Alomar, the African B.S.A.A. lady, when the thought of Jill's abrupt death came to mind. I was forced to shove it aside.
I could recall Chris' anger back at the apartment.. and this weird sensation like I was being watched. I dismissed it as paranoia, but it was strong. Chris didn't think I was capable of handling my own. That was the problem with an elder sibling. They treated you like a kid.
I'd held myself back from going off, but in the end we both calmed down and left peacefully. Chris was taking us to the B.S.A.A. camp, which was in the next city over, a good thirty minute drive through first barren land and then a clustered patch of thick trees. We arrived in the small city, one much different from the one we left behind. You could tell this was US made by the three story buildings, metal, formation, soldiers, advanced vehicles and just how cleaner the place looked. There weren't cars, but the little military base had golf carts that ran it's length.
Chris told me on the drive there how General Kane had given him use of two southern buildings, but it was mostly to monitor the survivor, his allies and the B.S.A.A. as soldiers roamed the building under the pretense of 'guards'. Chris didn't mind so long as they stayed out of the way.
I found it amusing how Chris reacted when we got there. We had to stop at the checkpoint into the city and twin guards studied us, our vehicle, equipment and identities for a good twenty minutes. He was impatient as always and snapped at one of them when they tried to pat me down. I didn't have my weapons on me, they were in my bag.. where they found them. Of course I had my carry conceal and all the correct paperwork to have my two pistols with AND on me here in Africa, but it was still comical.
We drove through once 'accepted' and down a long road with people in uniforms bustling by with objects, in pairs, groups or alone. When we reached the two grey stoned buildings, which were each three and a half stories tall, we moved out of the jeep to see a huge man standing by the front door. He had pepper-colored hair with cold green eyes and a dark uniform adorned with all kinds of medals and awards. Clearly this was a high standing man. He met us at the base of the steps with a stoic air to him.
Chris stepped forward of us, Sheva and I hanging back.
"Redfield." The man stated in a dry but crisp voice. It was kind of British but with an almost Italian twirl to it. "Sheva. I see you've got company." He continued, stony eyes flickering briefly to me.
Chris gestured toward me and said: "I'd like you to meet my sister, Claire Redfield. Claire.. this is General Kane, the commander of this base."
I stepped over boldly, hand extending. "It's a pleasure, general."
He shook my hand with a slow nod. "Indeed."
"I'm with TerraSave." I added.
His entire attitude changed. From dark and dreary to a big smile and a light chuckle. "Ah! I take it you work under Michelle?"
"Rossel? Yeah. She's actually a close friend of mine."
"Interesting. You are welcome here any time. We help out TerraSave, along with the B.S.A.A. Miss Rossel is my niece." He said with that large smile.
"Wait. I thought Kane was your last name." I frowned.
He shook his head, laughing heartily. "No, I make everyone call me Kane, my first name. I'm Kane Rossel."
"Ah, I see."
"But either way. I have business to return to. Have a lovely day, Claire, Chris, Sheva." I waved and we parted ways with our goodbyes.
Chris led us up the steps and into the building. My stomach started to cramp and I got this horrible sinking feeling in the center of my chest.
Something was going to happen.
