Disclaimer: I don't own Soul Eater.
Soul stuffed a deck of cards into the suitcase he had.
"Where do I put these?" Blair asked with a pout as the red-eyed male continued to put more of his props into the suitcase.
"I really don't care, as long as it's not with any of my stuff."
"You're mean..."
"I didn't ask for your opinion."
Blair turned away with a huff, lifting her chin up. "I'm not talking to you then."
"I'm fine with that."
After a few curses from Soul and a slammed but zipped suitcase later, Blair let out a whine.
"Soul..."
"What is it this time?" he sighed, wiping the sweat already forming on his forehead.
"Why are you stressing over this show? I've never seen you so overwhelmed."
"Blair, zip it or I'll make you shut up."
"You can't- HMPH!" She touched her lips, trying to pry them open.
"I'm sorry, what was that? I can't hear you," he smirked as he put the cages on to the coffee table.
"MMPH MM MM!"
"I'll unzip your lips after you help me carry my things into the car," he replied, petting his favorite pet's hair.
Blair stomped her foot before grabbing the bird's cage and his suit case, then practically ran out of the apartment.
With a smirk, he grabbed the handle of his favorite pet's cage and locked his apartment door behind him.
"I'm off to be the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz..."
She face-palmed, Liz shaking her head with her hands on her hips.
"The decorations are meant to up there! Not on the ground!"
"Well, I didn't know that!"
"You have a 1-year-old now! How do you even take care of him?!"
"Easy! The four step method! Eat, drink, bathroom, sleep!"
"Bathroom?! BATHROOM?! HE CAN BARELY REACH THE BOWL! HE ISN'T EVEN POTTY TRAINED YET!"
Liz gave her a small smile. "It was a bad idea to let Kid and Black Star work as a duo in the first place. I told her that."
"But she'll let him do anything."
"We both know how she is. I'm pretty sure it was a terrible idea to leave Patty with the baby too, but she insisted."
Maka blinked at her before crossing her arms. "Wait. Where is Patty?"
"Taking care of the baby."
"SHINIGAMI-SAMA! WHO'S PICKING UP THE CAKE?! WHEN'S ENTERTAINMENT SHOWING UP?! WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO SET UP?! WHO-"
"MAKA!"
She looked up, eyes wide.
Liz smoothed her friend's hair, smiling. "Everything's going to be fine. Patty asked Crona and Ragnorak to pick it up. As you can see, all the junk food that will make the children crazy are already set up. The DJ is set to be here in exactly 1 hour, no later. Everyone knows their positions and the magician will come at 8 o'clock on the dot." Satisfied with how she had remembered every damned thing Tsubaki had said, she placed her hands on her hips.
The green-eyed girl's jaw dropped. "H-How? Wha-What?"
She linked elbows with Maka, laughing. "There's this thing we learned a year after meeting you."
"How is this even related-"
"You freak when it comes to any kind of party planning. Sleepovers, surprises, birthdays, graduations, so on and so forth," she explained, dragging the girl out in to an elevator. She pressed the lobby button, Maka staring confused at her.
"Where are you-"
When the elevator's doors opened, Liz dragged her friend out and into the lobby.
Maka's eyes widened as they past the front desk, gift shop, small pond, and pool. "No, no, no, no, no!" She tried pushing her heels to the ground, only to be carried bridal style.
"Oh, no way, Albarn! Not gonna ruin those shoes!" Liz smirked down at her, making the girl blush. "I set up a special appointment for you!"
"But I'm already-"
"I'll redo it later! Just enjoy your massage!"
She was dropped roughly, her bottom hitting soft cushions. She looked up with a glare, only to aim it at an innocent worker.
He immediately blushed, backing away. "Ah! I-I'm sorry! I didn't-"
"No! It wasn't meant for you anyway..." she grumbled.
"Ah... You're Maka? Liz's friend?"
She nodded, writing down his physical characteristics in her head like an author would. Boyish blonde hair and blue eyes, the type girls usually fell for. The problem was, he had more piercings than necessary and he did not know how to button up his shirt entirely. He immediately seemed like a push-over, oh the pain of loving fictional characters- She shook her head to focus back to reality. "How do you know Liz?"
"I used to run errands for her and Black Star, remember?" He scratched his head with an awkward smile. "My name's Hiro, I went to school with you guys. Graduated with you guys too..."
"Oh..." She didn't remember him.
"You probably don't remember me, but that's fine. I'm gonna be your massage therapist for today!"
She gave a tiny smile at his enthusiasm.
Maybe that's what she needed.
A little enthusiasm.
"Where is she?" Tsubaki asked, hands on her hips.
Liz chuckled, placing her arm around her shoulders. "Don't worry. She'll be here any second, I sent K and J to fix her up."
"But I thought she already-"
Liz waved her hand lazily. "Yeah, but she was stressing again. So, I sent her to Hiro!"
"YOU WHAT?!" she screeched.
"Yeah, hopefully they'll hook up and she'll start being mellow again-"
"No, no, no!"
"What?"
"They can't hook up! Hiro doesn't have a stable job!" she yelled, agitated. "This is his 5th job this week! 37th job in this year alone!"
Liz sighed and slapped a hand to her forehead. She really should have done a background check.
"Hey Tsu! Hey Liz! Thanks for that free massage." Maka smiled as she ran to them, "How's the preparations?"
Liz shoved a clipboard to her, Maka's check list with all boxes checked.
"Wow! I didn't know you were so capable of fixing my mess..." Maka muttered under her breath, seeing how she even added multiple things to the list. She added affordable things too... "Maybe you should have been in charge in the first place..."
"WHAT?! NO! Look, Maka, your ideas were brilliant and you carried them out." The tall blue-eyed blonde smiled, "The only reason you weren't really successful was because you had stressed too much. You did perfectly, all you needed was a reward to help relieve the stress." She patted the girl's head.
Maka threw her arms around her, burying her face in the crook of the shoulder. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." She wrapped her arms around her shorter friend.
Tsubaki smiled warmly at the two, letting out a soft, 'aw'. Without hesitation, she joined in the group hug.
The three laughed, savoring the heartfelt moment.
"WE HAVE TO HURRY AND GET READY GIRLS!" Kid yelled, pulling Black Star away from the punch bowl. He was not going to spike the drinks like last time. "SORRY TO RUIN THE MOMENT!"
Liz rolled her eyes and pulled away. "Just get Patty and my baby."
Kid sighed loudly. "If you really do want a baby that badly-"
"GO," she ordered, her cheeks slightly pink.
Kid smirked but obeyed nonetheless.
Maka and Tsubaki giggled as Liz stomped off.
"SHUT UP AND FIX THE TABLES!"
"And I'm the one who needs to relax?" Maka teased.
The plan was going great so far.
The sign-in table was operated by Jackie and Kim. Their jobs: tell the family what table they sat at, give them a raffle ticket and photo booth ticket, take the present or envelope, and direct them to take a photo with the birthday boy and his parents.
Kirikou, Clay, and Akane were in charge of birthday photos and videos. Kirikou took the pictures of the guests with the birthday boy and his parents. Clay and Akane walked around the ballroom to take other photos and videos.
Patty was in charge of looking after the candy bar, so the kids don't knock things over. (Of course, she would occasionally pop a gum drop or two into her mouth and behead a gummy bear.)
Ox and Harvar were in charge of the photo booth (they only gave them a discount because of Kim and Jackie). Which was great, the background effects were different from all other ordinary birthday photo booths.
Kirikou's younger twin siblings were in charge of the other snacks. His younger brother, Adish, was in charge of serving the popcorn at the popcorn machine and his younger sister, Seaiqa, was in charge of serving the cotton candy at the cotton candy machine.
Tsugumi, Meme, and Anya made balloon animals and gave the kids tattoos.
Liz and Kid were to help the entertainment for anything he needed, though DJ Justin Law wasn't needful of anything. Except for a glass of water occasionally.
Maka, however, had gone over the list for the thousandth time.
"Yo, Maks!" Black Star called, gesturing her to come over. "We're taking a group picture!"
"No thanks!" she called back without looking up.
Two hands grabbed her shoulders and pushed her towards her childhood friend.
"Hey!" She tried turning to the mysterious person and planned on hitting them with her clipboard.
"Watch where you swing that thing!" Black Star yelled at her, annoyed when she hit his arm. He rubbed the spot with a frown. "My first son's first birthday, and I still have to put up with you."
"It's the same the other way! I'm always gonna be stuck with you and you'll always be stuck with me. But we both have to just put up with each other." She smirked and the hands left her shoulders. When she turned, she should've known.
It wasn't one person...
"Liz, Patty..." she groaned.
"We know how much you love pictures, Maka!" chimed Patty, the hyped girl bouncing up and down on her heels.
"But I-!"
"Come on!" Liz wrapped an arm around her sister and Maka, turning them both to the camera as everyone who participated in helping out gathered around them.
"Let's do a funny face!" Patty requested and immediately had everyone (except Maka who didn't want to be there in the first place) on board.
"Okay! Could you please scoot in closer to each other?!" Ox stood with the camera strap around his neck, motioning with his hands. "Could Tsubaki and the two children sit on the bench?!"
"Hey!" Black Star glared at the photographer while everyone laughed.
Tsubaki shook her head and pulled Black Star next to her on the bench.
"Perfect!" Ox readjusted the camera lens and glanced over to his partner, who gave him a thumbs-up.
"1, 2, 3!"
Click
Everyone rushed over to the monitor to see the photo, laughing and pointing out each other's funny faces.
Tsubaki and Black Star puffed their cheeks out like a fish and looked cross-eyed at their nose, their little one year-old laughing on his mother's lap.
Behind them were the girls. On the left of the picture, Jackie and Kim looked at each other with over dramatic annoyed faces to start the row. To the right of them, Seaiqa had pulled the corners of her mouth and stuck her tongue out. Anya, Meme, and Tsugumi did a "Charlie's Angel" pose beside her. Anya turned to her right and Tsugumi turned to her left while Meme slightly bent on one knee. Patty made a double chin while leaning on her green-eyed friend on her left, Maka did not look amused and stared blankly at the camera, Liz looked like an over dramatic fangirl by fanning her face with her hand and putting her other hand on her forehead with her eyes looking up while leaning on her ash-blonde friend.
Behind the girls, were the five guys. Behind Jackie and Kim, Kid had a duck face and leaned closer to Kirikou. Said boy had taken out his phone, held up a peace sign, and made the same face as Kid while taking a selfie. Clay and Akane had made 'derp' faces from behind Anya and Meme. Adish did the same face of the kid of "Home Alone" from behind Tsugumi.
Maka rolled her eyes and looked back at the clipboard. People could start coming through the doorways in any minute. "Alright guys, we've got to be ready! Could everyone please get in their positions?!" she yelled over their enthusiasm.
The group dispersed after Ox promised to print out a copy of the picture for each of them, thanks to Kim's pleading eyes.
Liz slung an arm around Maka's shoulders and started to walk around the ballroom with her, Kid on the ash-blonde's other side.
"I was just wondering, Maka, it's been a couple of months since your last relationship-"
"No," she calmly said as she smacked her friend's arm away with her clipboard. Maka continued to walk toward the stage, where Black Star and Tsubaki were contemplating where to leave the cake.
Liz pouted and rubbed her sore forearm. She glanced at her partner, raising her brow. They had known each other long enough to know the procedures. Kid sighed and ran after Maka, calling out her name and tried not to notice the mischievous look in his partner's eyes.
"Maka!" Kid called out, catching up and keeping pace with her as she went around the room to make sure everything was in order. "I think Liz is right-"
"Of course you do, she's your fiancée," the ash-blonde said bluntly as she looked at a table's centerpiece and the party favors. She ticked off the box for table 1 before moving on to the one behind it.
"That's not the point. Maka, when was the last time you had se-"
"3 months ago, before the break-up. Now, if you're done trying to help your fiancée fix me up with someone, you can recheck the tables while I go and check on everyone else." she forced a smile and shoved the clipboard into his hands. "Tell Liz that I'm fine, by the way."
Before her ebony-haired friend could say something, she was halfway to the candy bar. He frowned, wondering if she had been told of his and Patty's argument earlier that morning. Although Liz had tried to sooth her sister's feathers, she still advised he stay as far from the usually bouncy blonde as much as possible. He shook his head and looked down at the clipboard. The job seemed easy enough...
His eye twitched.
"THESE BOXES ARE NOT SYMMETRICAL!"
Patty watched as her ash-blonde friend stuffed her face with red vines. She could only predict... "Did sissy and her fiancé try to set you up with someone?"
Maka angrily nodded. Patty tried hard not to laugh at her red face. The girl should be trying to eat away her sorrows, not trying to be choking it all down.
"I think sissy and three stripes are right though... You haven't been in the game for so long." Patty plucked one of the red vines out of her hands and chewed on it leisurely.
"Maybe I don't want to be in the game any more! You don't know what I want, Patty!" The ash-blonde resisted the urge to chop the bubbly blonde by grabbing a handful of jolly ranchers.
"Are you gonna rely on your hand for the rest of your life? Didn't you want children? I thought you wanted children, you told us you wanted children!" It seemed the only thing Patty cared about with Maka's love life was the children she wanted her friend to produce. Of course that's what Patty would focus on. "I wanted to take care of a baby Maka! Or a lot of baby Maka's!"
"Patty."
"Why don't you just do this one thing for me? I thought you loved me! You can't rely on your hand! It'll be old and pruny when you get older!"
Maka sighed, crossing her arms and popping some watermelon and apple jolly ranchers in her mouth as she watched her friend rant about hands and reproduction. When the blue-eyed blonde was done, she raised an eyebrow. "That all?"
"Yes."
She placed her free hand on Patty's shoulder and smiled. "I'm not planning on staying single forever. I just... Don't think I'm ready to date right now..."
Patty looked at her with sad eyes. "It's been months..." she said quietly.
"I know."
"He probably moved on. Most likely."
"I know."
Suddenly, the blonde looked fierce with determination. "Then you should move on too."
Agitated, she looked at her friend. "Patty, I already said-"
"I know what you said!"
They glared at each other, Maka crushing the candy in her hand. "Look, I decide for myself. That's what you've told me since we've been friends. Why aren't you letting me follow your advice?"
"Because my advice sucks!"
Black Star sighed as he watched the two at the candy bar argue, taking his son out of his wife's arms. "Tsu."
"Hm?" She blinked at her husband, pausing from her conversation with one of the waiters.
"Do you think cake handling is gonna be perfect with just Crona and Rag?"
She tilted her head, wondering what was going through her husband's mind at the moment. "I don't think it'll be perfect. With our friends, there's no such thing as perfect. Why? What are you thinking about?"
He shrugged, glancing at his childhood friend once again. "I dunno. I think you should send Maka down just to make sure they don't ruin it. We did spend a lot of money for this one day..." However, she didn't miss how he gestured at the blonde pair away from them.
The black-haired woman rolled her eyes, walking over to the candy bar. "And I'm the one that's called cheap."
"Love you." He gave her a bright, sincere grin.
She returned the smile and pecked him on the lips. "I love you too." She walked over to the two blondes just in time to put Patty's m&m armed hands down. "What is going on with you two?"
"Tsubaki! Maka's being stubborn again!" Patty pointed at the other blonde with an accusatory finger, looking like a child.
Maka was no different. She pointed back, veins practically popping out of her forehead. "Nuh-uh! Tsubaki! She's trying to force me into dating again!"
As they acted like two grade schoolers telling on each other to their teacher, Tsubaki sighed and rubbed her temples. Seriously? I put up with Black Star and the baby. Now this? Amazing, the greater being loves to test me... "Maka, I need you to go down and look for Crona and Ragnarok. I know that they must have gone through traffic or something, but they should be here by now. Help them take up the cake, okay?" That should stop the Thompson's intervention. For the moment, at the least.
Maka threw a glare at Patty, who stuck her tongue out, before leaving.
As soon as Tsubaki saw that Maka was out the entrance, she turned back to Patty. "Really?"
"What?"
"I think you're too obsessed with taking care of babies." She shook her head with a small smile.
"Well, sissy won't let me have one yet because she's not ready to have one herself. So, I need someone else's baby!" She pouted. "Besides, your baby is getting too old! Meaning, you're getting old!"
"He is not! I am not!"
She had waited at the lobby for the two Gorgons, who were arguing as they brought the cake in. Not such a surprise to her. She had already seen some of the guests and helped direct them to the ballroom by that time, wondering what took them so long.
"Hey, Crona. Ragnarok. I hope you haven't ruined the cake... Black Star would throw a fit." She crossed her arms.
Ragnarok gave her an annoyed look. "Well, if you could do better, why don't you fucking carry it with noodle arms over here? He almost dropped the box, 6 fucking times while walking here from the lot!" he growled, snatching the box from Crona and shoved it into the blonde's arms. He turned and walked out the lobby door. "Have fun, small chest."
"And where are you going?!" she yelled, though she could guess what he planned on doing.
"Gonna go find some hot girls, get myself laid! Not like you, ya prude!"
Crona nervously watched as his friend cursed his brother out with her colorful words. "M-Maka?"
She took a deep breath, closing her eyes before turning to him with a smile. "I'm fine, Crona! Now, let's get this cake to the ballroom before Black Star throws a bitch fit."
He nodded and helped hold one side of the box. "How have you been doing?"
She shrugged as they walked over to the elevator. "Okay. How about you?"
He gave her the largest smile he could manage as she pressed the 'up' button. "I've been great, college is okay... I've met new people..."
"That's great! Have you met any new girls?" She couldn't help asking. Just because she didn't have a love life, didn't mean her close friend didn't.
"Yes... But..."
"But...?"
He mumbled something under his breath, Maka furrowing her eyebrows.
"I'm sorry, but you have to say that a little louder."
He blushed and looked away, chewing on his lower lip. "I've... I've kinda... Been seeing Patty..."
She blinked.
The elevator doors opened, a hotel employee waiting for them with a food cart. "Ms. Albarn and Mr. Gorgon?" he asked.
Crona made up for his shocked friend, smiling at the employee.
"Ms. Nakatsukasa asked me to help you two bring the cake up. I hope this cart is large enough to hold it..." He glanced uneasily at the large cake that they were holding. Maka was holding it lower than Crona, making it lopsided.
"Oh, thank you." Crona nodded. "Uh, could you...?" He gestured at the still frozen Maka and shifted uncomfortably. He usually wasn't the one carrying all the weight.
"Sure thing, sir." He pushed the cart out of the elevator, allowing other people in and helped Crona put the cake on to it. He slid the other side of the cake out of Maka's hands and into his. When the cake was secured in the cart, Crona waved a hand in front of Maka's face.
As they waited for the elevator to come back down, Crona tried getting his friend out of her frozen state. The hotel employee shifting uncomfortably whenever he glanced at them.
"Maka, stop. Wake up. C'mon..." He sighed, rubbing his arms anxiously. "I didn't want to tell you but... I think I got Patty pregnant..."
"YOU WHAT?!"
The pink haired boy winced as his now awake friend shook him by the shoulders. The hotel employee sweat-dropped and whistled anxiously. Crona waited for Maka to finally calm down and pried her hands off his shoulders. It hadn't been a surprise that the girl would react the way she had. But honestly, him knocking up Patty? He was more responsible than that and she should know that.
"Maka, that was a trick. I needed you to snap out of it. Are you okay? I mean, me being with Patty isn't a problem. Is it?" He rubbed his left elbow and avoided her eyes with a blush.
"No, no! Of course not! You being with Patty is totally fine and I'm totally fine! Why wouldn't I be totally fine?" Maka laughed awkwardly.
Silence settled between them, the tension thick. They both jumped when the elevator bell 'ding'-ed, the doors opening and people piling out. They followed the employee in and stood on either side of him. The only sound in the elevator was the annoying elevator waiting song that made Maka want to claw her skin off.
To ease the tension, Crona finally sighed. "Liz is bothering you about getting a boyfriend, isn't she?" He glanced at the hotel employee. "Why not ask him on a date?"
Both the employee and Maka sweat-dropped.
"What?"
The hotel employee rolled his eyes and lifted his left hand up. "I'm married, mate. And gay, so..."
"Oh."
To save Crona from more embarrassment, the elevator 'ding'-ed once again to indicate their stop.
"I'm sorry," Crona said through his hands as they got out of the elevator and walked to the ballroom. "I shouldn't have assumed..." he groaned.
"It's fine, I'm actually flattered you would try to hook me up with someone as beautiful as her." The employee smiled.
Maka blushed from behind them.
By the time they had arrived in the ballroom, more than half of the guests were settled at their tables and Liz had reserved their table at the corner closest to the doors. Kid sat next to her on the table behind theirs, smiling warmly at his fiancée as she talked. The employee had gone to put the cake at its designated table while Crona and Maka headed towards Kid and Liz.
"Maka!" A voice from behind her called, causing the girl to turn and smile widely.
"Marie!" Maka said back, almost toppling backwards when the older woman attacked her with a hug the younger gladly accepted. "It's been so long! I thought you and Stein were been traveling."
"Oh, we were but couldn't just miss Tsubaki's first son's first birthday! I mean, all of you had been such a help while I had Rachel." Marie pulled away from the hug with a smile then looked at Crona. "Oh! And Crona! It's good to see you too!" She gathered the boy into her arms and hugged him tightly.
He sputtered as he hugged her back. "H-Hi. It's been a long time..."
Marie giggled as he pulled away with a blush. "Still shy, I see."
The pink-haired male nodded meekly, rubbing his forearms.
"Oh, Maka! I heard about the break up, I hope you're fine. I know it seemed like he was the one but-"
Maka just shook her head and raised a hand to stop her. "I'm fine, really. I'm over it."
Marie seemed not to believe her for she stared at the girl awhile before sighing. "Oh, alright. I believe you. But remember! There are always plenty of fish in the ocean!"
"I believe the saying is 'plenty fish in the sea'..."
She tilted her head and scratched her chin thoughtfully. "Is it? I can never seem to remember..."
The two young adults shared a glance before Maka looked away with a shake of her head and a fond smile. "Anyway, where is your daughter? I hope she's doing well."
The bright blonde woman seemed confused. "What? Rachel is right there." Her voice died out as she looked behind her and only found her husband in his gray stitched shirt and pants as well as the white stitched lab coat. Some things never change...
He didn't seem to notice his wife's glare until after he slipped his phone into a pocket of his lab coat. "Hm? What is it, Marie?"
"Frank? Where is our daughter...?"
The older man scratched his head and shrugged. "I told her to go play with some of the other children."
Marie blinked her caramel brown eyes for a moment. "...Did you check her pockets for your scalpel?"
"...Oh."
As if on cue, a group of children playing near the candy bar screamed.
Turning and running toward the particular area, the mother yelled with her husband in tow.
"Rachel Sasha Stein! Put that scalpel down immediately! Let go of that poor boy!"
Maka giggled as she watched her old teacher and mother's childhood friend reprimand her daughter.
"Maka? Liz is calling you..."
The smile fell off her face.
"Liz, I told you I don't-"
"Aw, but you are so beautiful! You have to get snatched up now before all your good looks are gone!" The oldest Thompson wrapped an arm around her little sister and pointed at her. "You see this? This is the face of someone who's taken." She then pointed at Maka. "Yours is the face of a-"
"If you want to keep that finger, I suggest you put it down and be quiet. The magician is here," she growled. Though this had not made the older woman cower in fear like it had in their earlier years, it did manage to shut her up.
Tsubaki slid into the chair left of Maka with a tired sigh, arms empty of her baby. She had given her to Marie, who had kindly offered, in hopes of getting some sleep.
"Long day?" Patty cooed, patting her head.
She only nodded and nuzzled into her hand. "Hm... It's so nice to be able to lay back and relax for a while..." She leaned forward to lay her head on her forearms.
"TSU! KID'S BOTHERING ME!"
The other girls sighed sympathetically. The older woman got up while blowing a strand of hair off her face before walking towards the popcorn maker, where Kid was complaining about the asymmetry of the popcorn.
"You see that Pat? That's what happens when you get a baby. Don't get a baby!" Liz grabbed her sister by the shoulders and shook her. "Not until I do."
Maka rolled her eyes before Liz let go of her sister and launched into the boyfriend situation again.
Suddenly, DJ Law cut the music off and grabbed the mic. "I hope you all enjoyed my music so far! But now, we have a very special guest! Give it up for the great magician, Soul Eater!"
"Huh?! Soul's here!" Patty exclaimed, grabbing her sister's hands and smiling widely. "He's here! He's here!"
"Yeah, yeah, Pat. Quiet down, I'm trying to get Maka a life." She waved her sister off, focused entirely on bothering the ash-blonde.
"But-!"
"Seriously, I thought I told you to shut your mouth." Green eyes glared fiercely at the eldest Thompson. "Also, I do have a life!"
"No, you told me to put my finger away. It's away~! And classes and work don't count as having a life!"
Patty pouted and looked back at the performing magician as the two began to argue. If they weren't going to listen to her, then fine. The show would be amazing anyway.
Everyone who were watching clapped as the mysterious man walked in, his hat tipped to conceal his face. The DJ started the ominous music once he lifted his head and the audience saw his face, gasping at his features.
The top hat didn't hide the white mop of hair he had, spiking from all directions. The red of his eyes matched the red ribbon that was wrapped around his top hat and shined with mischief. He grinned to show his shark-like teeth, many of the little boys and girls looking at him in amazement. "Hello, wonderful audience. My name is Soul Eater, but you may call me Soul. I'm glad to be here to celebrate Drake's very first birthday with you all!" He grabbed his top hat and bowed as the audience clapped.
When he stood, he placed put the top hat back on. "So, who's ready for some magic?"
The children and parents clapped and cheered as he opened his act. He showcased his sleeves to indicate they were empty. "You know, kids, sometimes I just get really sick and get uncontrollable sneezes, like today." He sniffled loudly. "And on those days, I need a- a- a-!" He covered his mouth as he let out a sneeze and a colored handkerchiefs popped out from between his middle and ring finger.
"Ah, there it is! I've been looking for this everywhere!" He pulled the napkin from his fingers, only for is to be connected to another and another and another until there was no more. "Uh... I have no idea where all of these came from." He pointed at the colorful handkerchiefs and gathered them up before throwing them over his shoulder, causing the children to giggle.
"Well, I need my trusty assistant for this next trick!" He waved his hand around and suddenly showed a smoke bomb in his hand. He threw it to the side and started clapping. "Give it up for Blair!" he shouted as the smoke cleared and a busty woman with purple hair and fake cat accessories stood in its place.
She stood about a head taller than the man beside her and wore a glittering, black, short dress and matching high heels. Her purple cat ear headband and fake cat fangs made Soul roll his eyes.
Soul pulled the black box behind them up so it was between this. "This trick is something my assistant loves to do. She loves being cut in half!"
Said assistant rolled her eyes before climbing into the box and laying down. "That saw better not be sharp!"
His eyes glinted mischievously. "Oh, they're not." He pulled out the saw from behind the curtain behind them. He slid two thin black blocks between Blair's body, hearing a satisfying 'clack' when it hit the table, then he placed the saw between the blocks and started to saw. When he was done, he pulled apart the boxes and showed Blair's separated bodies.
After the clapping died down, he put the separate boxes together, took out the two black blocks, and waved his hands over his assistant's body and opened the top of the box.
He helped her out of the box and they both bowed while the audience cheered and clapped. "Okay, now you can go home Blair."
"What? I thought I was helping you for the whole show!"
"Psh. No. I don't need you. Go home."
Blair pouted before opening her mouth. "Don't say that! I know you love me-!" Before she could say more, Soul had popped out a smoke bomb from thin air and threw it in front of his assistant. When the smoke cleared, it showed the disappearance of Blair and the audience clapped.
"And since Mrs. Blair has left my act, I will let my other partner chose an assistant." His smirk widened, causing the children to gasp and whisper their curiosity. He grabbed the rim of his top hat and showed its empty inside before flipping it upside down. "Okay kids, I need you guys to help me out here. To help my assistant out of my hat, I need all of you to yell 'rabbitcadabra'!" After the chorus of 'rabbitcadabra's', he reached into the top hat and pulled out a rabbit by the scruff of it's neck.
The little girls in the audience (and a few moms/women) gushed at the bunny's cuteness. Soul placed his top hat back on to his head and gathered the fluffy bunny on to his forearms.
"This is Henry, he's my favorite assistant but he doesn't like working overtime so he's going to choose an audience member who's over the age of 18 and female," he explained as he pet down his rabbit's ears. "Don't worry, he's clean and doesn't bite. Hard."," he chuckled, releasing Henry. The children tried to bring the bunny's attention to them, but he only hopped away. He roamed the ballroom while Soul told some jokes to keep the audience entertained.
Patty looked around for the white rabbit as the two girls next to her still argued about love life. The energetic blonde gasped when the bunny she was looking for jumped on to Maka's lap. "Ah!"
Maka looked at the bunny in confusion, staring at its fur for a while. She didn't not like the snow-white of the rabbit on her lap. In fact, she cooed to it and comb it's fur like the animal was her own. "Well, aren't you a little sweetie?"
"Aw! Henry likes you! Henry never liked anyone but Soul! He always bites the participants!" Patty observed as the pet yawned and laid its head on the ash-blonde's lap.
"Well, maybe it's because she has magician blood in her." Liz shrugged, reaching out to also pet the animal but retracted it quickly when he snapped at her hand like a snapping turtle.
"Pfft. Yeah, sure. Or you guys don't really understand that this little guy is like a friend not a pet." The ash-blonde rolled her eyes and continued to fluff up the bunny's fur. As a response, Henry backed up to nudge his nose under Maka's hand and caused said girl to smile softly.
"Aw!" Patty and Liz squealed as they watched Henry rub the top of his head on to their friend's hand.
From on stage, Soul scratched his head in confusion. Henry would have bitten the volunteer he wanted chosen by now, so why didn't anyone scream yet? "Uh, does anyone have Henry? Is Henry still in the ballroom?"
Liz glanced up and saw Soul on-stage, the gears in her head finally clicking. She stood up quickly, making Maka and Patty flinch. "She does! She has Henry!" She grabbed the ash-blonde by the shoulders and pushed her up the stage. "Have fun with her Soul!" she said with a wink before running back to their table and hi-fiving her sister.
Maka clenched her teeth, almost squeezing the rabbit in her arms to death before Soul held his hands out to the little guy.
"Huh, that's a first. Henry actually likes you..." The white-haired man commented, when his rabbit didn't jump into his arms.
"Well, what can I say? I'm better with animals than I am with humans." She smiled as she handed Soul his pet.
"I can see that... Well, now, we all have to say bye to Henry." He placed the rabbit on a small table nearby and pet him as the children said goodbye. He grabbed a black handkerchief and covered Henry with it. After a wave of his hand, he lifted the handkerchief and showed the disappearance of his pet rabbit.
The children frowned and claimed their disappointment of the disappearance of Henry, but Soul wasn't having any of it.
"Aw, but now we have a new volunteer. Give it up for..." he leaned over to the ash-blonde next to him to ask for her name in a whisper.
"Maka."
"Give it up for Maka! What a unique and beautiful name! Fits a unique and beautiful girl." He smirked, earning an eye roll. "This trick requires someone of at least 18 years of age, because..." He pulled something from behind the small table that made Maka's eyes widen and the audience to gasp. "I'm going to use this!"
"You aren't going to stab me with that, are you?" Maka asked bluntly, glancing at the saber he held in his hands. It did not have those ball tips that she would usually see her fencing friends have on their fencing weapon.
He laughed and shook his head. "Don't worry, babe. I wouldn't want to hurt an audience member."
"Can't say the it's the same the opposite way."
Hearing that, he chuckled and gave her a pile of playing cards. "Okay, so you get to shuffle these cards and throw all of them up in the air."
"Uh... What?" She looked at the pile in her hands with a confused look, causing Soul to sigh and take the pile of cards back.
"Pick a card, any-!"
She swiftly took a random card from the pile and looked at it. She raised an eyebrow and looked up at him. "Seriously?"
"What?" he asked innocently.
She rolled her eyes and placed it back in the pile before taking the cards back and shuffling them.
"Okay, so at three, you have to throw all the cards up in the air."
"You're cleaning this up after, right?"
He chuckled, raising his saber over her head. "Yeah, of course, sweetheart. Throw it as high as you can, oh, and move back a little."
She did as instructed, waiting for his countdown.
"1... 2... 3!"
Maka threw the cards up and the audience gasped as Soul stabbed a card midair. He then removed the card from the tip of the fencing weapon. "So, beautiful, what was your card? Was it the queen of hearts?"
"Well, yeah, bu-!"
He showcased the stabbed card, which was the queen of hearts, and bowed at the awed audience. Liz and Patty clapped and cheered with the rest of the audience while off to the side of the magician, a certain ash-blonde rolled her eyes.
She glanced back at the albino magician. He had kneeled down to talk to a child who was speaking very animatedly to him. He smiled as the child's eyes sparkled and Maka could imagine what the little girl asked next. She could also guess what the magician said back, making her roll her eyes. Still, she couldn't help the smile that slid on to her face when she caught him smiling instead of smirking at the child and ruffling her hair with affection. After the child left and Soul got up from his kneeling position, she decided to walk up to him.
"You know, that was a great act." She crossed her arms and stood next to him.
He raised an eyebrow and shoved his hands into his pocket. "Act? That was real magic, babe."
Maka only scoffed and told him it wasn't real magic if he had hidden another queen of hearts in his sleeve and switched it into the opposite sleeve when showing the audience the supposedly empty sleeve. She went on to how he managed to pull Henry out of his top hat, making Blair disappear, transforming the ping-pong ball into a dove, and everything else in his show.
Soul could only stare at her wide-eyed for so long until she stopped and tapped her chin.
"Maybe you could learn how to transform your arm into a scythe next... Oh well, it was nice meeting you Mr. Eater!" She skipped away happily, like a little girl.
Soul stared after her, wondering who the fuck that girl was and how she managed to know and remember all that a magician knew. He really hoped she wasn't a competitor because she was actually really cute.
Until next time!
