After driving through most of the night we finally stopped at a gas station close to Jericho. Dean had gone off to pay for the gas and probably buy some food for himself while me and Sam were sitting with the Impala. I was sat in the back with the door open so that I could stretch my legs while Sam was rummaging through Dean's cassette tapes after I had insisted on putting on "Ramblin' Man"by the Allman Brothers. I'm glad I have the same taste in music as Dean otherwise I would never have been able to survive the long car journeys we had to go on. Sam on the other hand, well I don't think he knows how to appreciate good music.
Smirking to myself I looked back towards the convenience mart to see Dean exiting with a bunch of junk food in his hands. Rolling my eyes I stood up and leaned over Sams open passenger door.
"Hey!, either of you want breakfast?"
Looking up Sam shook his head seeing all the junk food Dean had purchased "No, thanks".
Before Dean changed his mind I grabbed a bag of chips and a can of coke out of Deans hands and placed them on the back seat for later knowing I wouldn't be able to eat anything until we next stopped. Looking back I noticed Dean he had two pies in his hand as well as other junk food. Making a small plan I decided to make a grab for one but he saw me coming and pulled them out of my reach, pouting I folded my arms across my chest to give the impression I was a spoilt child. "Where's my pie?".
"Well these were the last two, and they are both mine" He laughed, ensuring that he emphasised the 'mine' part.
Sam started to chuckle looking at the two of us "So...how'd you pay for that stuff?"
"Really Sam, you haven't been out of the business for that long, we still run the credit card scams duhh" I stated matter-of-factually.
Sam didn't look to pleased that we were still using the credit card scams and by the looks of it he couldn't quite believe that I would go along with it. To tell you the truth I don't actually approve of using this method to get money but what else are we meant to do?.
Dean had noticed Sam's shocked expression and while in the middle of opening a packet of chips he reassured Sam that we had a good reason, "Yeah, well, hunting ain't exactly a pro ball career" well I thought it was going to be a good reason anyway. Sam still didn't look to pleased with our reasons so I looked at Dean who simply shrugged his shoulders and added "Besides all we do is apply. It's not our fault they send us the cards".
"Yeah? And what names did you write on the application this time?".
With a mouthful of chips Dean smirked and answered Sam, "Uh, Burt Aframian and his son Hector. Scored two cards out of the deal".
"Yeah and I didn't get one" I sulked looking directly at Dean.
Dean rolled his eyes realising that I still hadn't forgiven him for not getting me a card, "Not this again!"
"Well you shouldn't have forgotten my card" I stated taking a gulp of my coke. To be fair I didn't need a card I could just use Dean's but it gave me something to hold against him if needed. This argument had lasted several days before we both agreed not to speak of it again.
"That sounds about right" Sam remarked showing that he understood this was an on going argument. After a few moments of silence he decided to change the subject. "I swear, man, you've gotta update your cassette tape collection"
Smirking, I looked towards Dean to see him with a frown on his face, "Why?".
"Well, for one, they're cassette tapes. And two. Black Sabbath? Motorhead? Metallica?"
"Woahh Sammy don't diss the music" I warned with my eyebrows raised.
"It's the greatest hits of mullet rock!"
Dean put the nozzle back on the pump before replying to Sam "Well house rules Sammy, Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole".
Looking at the two brothers joking around and being how they used to be I laughed and got into the backseat of the Impala. Before Sam left Dean, John, Sam and I used to go hunting together, it was easy and we always had each others backs. Those were the good times before John got obsessed with finding the thing that killed Mary and I suppose it just pushed us all apart. Well apart from me and Dean we stuck together as we needed each other to stay strong. I'm not gonna lie I miss this, I miss having Sam with us and I know I will defiantly miss him when he has to return to Stanford. I just hope Dean will let him make his own decision.
Pulling me out of my thoughts both Sam and Dean sat in the front of the Impala. Dean placed his food down and took the box out of Sam's hands. Turning the engine on ACDC "Back in Black" started to play. Looking in the rear view mirror Dean winked at me knowing full well that I loved this song. Reaching over the seat I turned the volume up.
"You know guys, Sammy is a chubby twelve year old. It's Sam okay?"
Sitting back down I laughed and yelled over the music to Sam, "Sorry can't hear you the music is to loud". Dean chuckled deeply making me smile. I love his deep laugh it lets me know when he's relaxed and not stressed. Looking in the rear view mirror I could see an proper smile on his face.
Pulling out of the gas station I started to eat my snacks after feeling the hunger hit me as I hadn't eaten in over 24 hours. A little while later Sam started to call people on his phone, I couldn't hear what was being said but I knew it was probably hospitals and other places to see if John had turned up. In no time I noticed that we had passed a sign that said 'JERICHO 7'.
"Thank you" Sam hung up and placed his phone in his lap.
Sam ran his fingers through his hair, "All right. So there's no one matching Dad at the hospital or morgue. So that's something I guess"
"We will find him don't worry Sam" I stated leaning over the backseat of the Impala.
Dean glanced at both me and Sam before looking back at the road. Up ahead was a bridge but it was full of police cars and officers. "Check it out" Dean stated while pulling to the side of the road
"What do you think happened?" I asked leaning in for a closer look.
"I don't know" Dean replied opening the glove box where we hid all of our fake ID's ranging from FBI to DEA. He grinned at both me and Sam before handing us one each. "Let's go" he stated getting out of the car and opening my door for me. As I got out he winked and started to walk towards the officers looking at what seemed to be an empty car.
Dean lead the way with Sam and I following slightly behind but as we got closer I noticed an officer was leaning over the bridge and shouting to a couple of officers in wetsuits looking through the muddy water below, from what I could hear I could tell that the officers knew the missing person. One of the officers the started talking about a girl called Amy who was apparently putting up posters all over the town. The three of us strolled into the crime scene and stopped close to the abandoned car.
Dean was the first to speak alerting them of our presence. "You fellas had another one like this just last month, didn't you?".
One of the officers turned to look at us, frowning he straightened up before speaking to us. "And who are you?"
"Federal marshals" Dean stated as we all flashed our badges.
"You three are a little young for marshals, aren't you?".
Looking at the officer I noticed his name was Jaffe, I could tell he was the one in charge as he was doing all of the talking. Even his stance told me that he was an authoritative figure. "Thanks, that's awfully kind of you" I stated trying to put on a sweet little smile. Dean looked at me and chuckled walking towards the car, obviously pretending to examine it.
"You did have another one just like this, correct?" He questioned looking up from the car.
Looking at the three of us Jaffe ran his hand through his hair "Yeah, that's right. About a mile up the road. There've been others before that". He motioned in the direction where I presume it has happened previously.
"So, this victim, you knew him?" Sam asked.
Jaffe nodded "town like this, everybody knows everybody".
Understanding this Dean started to circle the car looking for anything that would be useful to us or something that the cops may have missed. After walking the car he stands next to me and Sam again and looks at Officer Jaffe asking "Any connection between the victims, besides that they're all men?"
"No, not so far as we can tell"
"So what's the theory?" I asked trying to dig at what they thought it could be. I knew that they would not know or understand what was happening but he may be able to give us some clues.
"Honestly we don't know. Serial murderer? Kidnapping ring?
Dean shook his head "Well, that is exactly the mind of crack police work I'd expect out of you guys". I turned to look at him while Sam stomped on his foot.
Pushing Dean to follow Sam I turned and spoke to the two officers "Thank you for your time".
Catching up with the boys I saw Dean slap Sam on the back of the head. "Dean" I warned noticing two FBI agents ahead. Ignoring me the carried on.
"Ow! what was that for?" Sam said reaching for the back of the head.
"Why'd you have to step on my foot?"
"Dean you were rude to those officers" I stated giving him a questioning look.
"Yeah why'd you have to talk to the police like that?" Sam backed starting to get annoyed.
Dean walked infront of both me and Sam stopping us in our tracks. "Come on. They don't really know what's going on. Were all alone on this. I mean if we're going to find dad we've got to get to the bottom of this thing ourselves".
"Dean that's why we're here. Come on, were here to protect people from whatever this is and your just picking on those who don't understand!" I said crossing my arms over my chest indicating that I was annoyed with him. Looking at me Dean almost had a sorry look on his face after realising what I said was true. That swiftly changed as the two FBI agents I had seen earlier walked towards us.
"Can I help you three?" One of them asked.
Dean turned and looked at the two "No sir , we were just leaving".
We walked past them and the sheriff to go back to the Impala. As we walked I noticed the sheriff watch us leave. He knew something was up with us and I'm sure this won't be the last time we see him.
Dean being Dean turned to the two and said "Agent Mulder, Agent Scully".
Getting into the Impala we drove into Jericho.
