A/N: Okay, so next up: TOW all the resolutions. I apologize in advance, as this one's also going to be quite long, with several scenes from the episode. I dedicate this chapter to Shadow, because your reviews are the best and I really wanted to finally give you a new chapter. You really earned it :D so… here it is:
" Alright, Pheebs: I am ready for my first lesson," Joey exclaimed excitedly, as he came strolling into the coffeehouse behind his blonde friend. For New Years, Phoebe had promised to teach him how to play the guitar and he couldn't have been more happy, to have her as a teacher. He'd just always thought she was so talented.
" Okay," the masseuse smiled, then when Joey tried to grab her guitar however, her mood changed, as she warned him: " Oh no, no: you don't touch the guitar. First you learn here," she explained, while holding out her hand, then went on: " Then you learn here," as she gestured to the guitar.
" Ah, okay," Joey muttered, while taking a seat next to Chandler out on the orange couch.
" Okay: lesson one: chords. Now, uhm… I don't know the actual names of the chords, but I made up names for the way my hand looks, when I'm doing them, right? So then, this... is: bear claw, okay uhm… turkey leg, aand: old lady," the blonde clarified, showing Joey all the different hand-positions in turn.
" What an interesting approach to guitar-instruction. You know: some might find it amusing, I myself find it regular," Chandler commented, nearly dying on the spot, as he wasn't allowed to make any jokes about anything and this instant right here, would've been great to come up with something.
" But, yeah, so anyway, Joey, I gotta go now, since I really need to go and… you know, massage people, but I'll tell you more later, okay? Meanwhile, just try and practice what I just showed you, alright?"
" Oh, ooh yeah sure: so what was it, like: old man, bear leg and turkey claw, right?" the actor questioned his friend, while Chandler was near to drawing blood, as he bit his lip extremely hard, to keep from making some sarcastic comment.
" Uhm… noo: it's, bear claw, turkey leg and old lady," the blonde repeated patiently, while demonstrating the right moves once again.
" Right, right, I can do that! Bye Pheebs!"
" Bye!" Phoebe retorted, while getting up and quickly making her way out of the coffeehouse.
Then, after she'd left, Joey turned to his best friend, with the words: " Hey, Chandler: why don't you practice with me?"
" Oh, I'm so sorry. You know, I would, but I really don't want to, so: see ya," the man in question responded, as he himself rose up from the sofa and made his way outside, leaving behind an utterly confused Joey.
It was only a day later, that the actor was spending some time in apartment 20 with Monica and Chandler, when the front door opened to reveal Phoebe.
" Hey… Pheebs: check this out!" the proud Italian exclaimed, while walking up to her, in order to give her an update on his chord-progress.
" Ooh, you… you nailed the old lady!" Phoebe hollered enthusiastically, prompting them both to laugh, at the implication of those very words.
" Yeah, and listen: so, I thought I was getting better, so on my way home today I stopped by this guitar store and…" Joey began explaining, but sadly for him, his friend wouldn't allow him to finish. As the matter of fact, she seemed rather dismayed about his news, much to his amazement.
" Did you… did you touch any of the guitars, while you were there? Did you?!"
" No," he lied, not wanting to make her even more mad, than she already appeared to be.
" Give me your hands… strings… pick, oh," the masseuse brought out in an indignant fashion, after having smelled both of his hands.
" Do you want to learn to play guitar?"
" Yeees."
" Then, don't touch one!" Phoebe shouted earnestly, hereby effectively scaring Joey a little.
" Uh… okay, then," he finally agreed, though he did find his friend's approach to things somewhat weird.
" Good, now, you just keep working on your chords and then tomorrow, we'll see how well you're doing, okay?"
" Uh… sure," Joey replied, as he went back over to the sofa to continue rehearsing, in order to try and make her happy and get her, to restore her faith in him again.
" Tiger… dragon… Iceberg!… Joseph… did you even study at all, last night? Phoebe inquired earnestly, pacing around Monica's kitchen table, after having taken notice of Joey's inability to perform the chords right, the very next day.
" Yeees, yes I did!"
" Then, do iceberg!"
" G-sharp," Joey mumbled, before he positioned his hand, in the correct fashion this time.
" G-sharp," his blonde friend mocked, then went on, rather insulted : have you been studying the real name of the chords? … Have you? Oh my god!" she exclaimed, in a state of sheer shock, once she fully took in the expression on his face.
" What? I didn't touch a guitar!" the actor defended himself.
" No, but you're questioning my method!"
" No, I'm not questioning it, Phoebe. I'm saying: it's stupid!" Joey shouted, as he rose up from his chair, in order to really face her.
" You know, none of my other… student, thought I was stupid!" Phoebe threw back weakly.
" Your other student was YOU!"
" Yeah well, maybe you just need to try a little harder!"
" Maybe, I need to try a real teacher… Right here… here: Andy Cooper: he teaches guitar and look: there's a nice picture of him with a little kid, yeah and that kid's got a guitar!" Joey bellowed, while he showed Phoebe a picture of some random instructor, in the yellow pages.
" Fine! You go learn from your… qualified instructor, but don't come crying to me, when everybody's sick of hearing you play: " Bad bad Leroy Brown!" Phoebe yelled, after her best friend had stormed out of the apartment. She couldn't believe the nerve on him: how could he just doubt her like that? She was quite the awesome guitarist, after all.
" Oh, fine, take his side!" she subsequently roared, marching out the door herself, when Rachel just walked in, singing that very song.
It was about a few hours later, that Joey came casually strolling into the coffeehouse, where Phoebe was just reading a magazine, up on the gang's personal couch.
" Hey Pheebs."
" Oh, I can't talk to you! I don't have a fancy add in the yellow pages," sounded the snappy reply, as the feisty blonde just continued on with her business.
" Look, Pheebs, I just… I wanna apologize for… for saying your method was stupid. And, and maybe ask you to be my teacher again?" the Italian then brought out honestly and kindly, while he slowly took his place next to her.
" And… and I promise I won't touch a guitar, until you say I'm ready," he then went on, to really try and get on her good side again. He always hated it, when he was in a fight with Phoebe, after all, because out of the whole gang, she seemed to be the only one who really understood and supported him the most.
Then, in the next moment, Joey was actually quite surprised, when Phoebe just randomly presented him with her guitar.
" You really think I'm ready?" he asked, almost in awe, as he still couldn't believe that she was doing this, after everything that had happened between them, not that long ago.
"Uhu."
" Woow, cool!" he then exclaimed giddily, while he carefully took the instrument from out of her reach, before he stood up, as Phoebe looked at him, with an encouraging smile playing on her lips. After all, she could never stay mad at Joey for too long and he just looked so much like an excited, young kid, right now. She couldn't find it in her heart, to deny him this experience.
Her mood quickly changed though, when in the next minute, her friend suddenly dropped the guitar on the ground, after he'd tried his hand at strumming, in a little too excited a manner.
What followed, was a most uncomfortable silence, as Joey just stood there, looking utterly mortified, while Phoebe stared at her beloved instrument, which now seemed to be sporting quite a few scratches, in the nice mahogany woodwork, here and there.
" Was the chord at least right, before I…" the actor then began cautiously, taking a seat next to her again, hoping to god that she wouldn't kill him, right there on the spot.
" No," the masseuse shook her head.
" Oh… okay, so then I guess… I guess I'm out of here: see ya!" he subsequently announced, as he rapidly jumped up and raced for the door, while Phoebe just kept glaring at his back, in some sort of stunned astonishment. ' So, first he goes and breaks her guitar and then he just… he just runs away! she was definitely gonna remember this, heck she was gonna remember this, til the end of TIME!' It was with this thought in mind, that she ultimately pulled herself to her feet, taking her guitar with her, as she left Central Perk in quick, heavy strides.
Then, once evening had struck and Phoebe was sitting on her green couch at home, undertaking brave, yet futile attempts to put her musical instrument back together again( one of the strings had actually snapped, right through the middle, all because of that little Italian guy, who liked to refer to himself as an actor. God, she really was pissed at him!), there sounded three knocks at her front door.
" Come in! If you're not Joey that is, cause… if you're Joey, that means you ruined my most prized possession and that I'd like to break your neck… and oh also: that I don't want to see you, like… EVER again!" the blonde bellowed, while continuing to try and mend said possession, to the best of her abilities.
" Uhm… hi, Pheebs," Joey greeted her, somewhat ashamed, as he came shuffling inside.
" Oh, so you are NOT Joey? Because it sure looks and sounds like you are! Get out of here, you… you big… ya know, like: guitar-destroyer!"
Awh, come on, Phoebe, don't be so harsh… you're using those pincers completely wrong, by the way," the actor then made a spontaneous comment, as he watched his best friend using said tool, for what definitely HAD to be the first time in her life, with a little, amused smile on his face.
" Oh, so first you crush my guitar and now you're gonna laugh at me?! Seriously?! Well, if you were unwanted before, you certainly are now! Scram, Joseph Francis!" Phoebe bellowed, while keeping her eyes fixed on her fingers, which were desperately fumbling around, to try and wind a brand new string around one of the tuning- pegs.
" Hey, hey, Pheebs… look at me: I'm really very sorry about dropping it, okay… and then about leaving you at the coffee place like that, but I was just… I was scared about what you would do to me, you know. I mean: you used to live out on the streets: folks like that ain't nothing to mess with," Joey stated in a soft voice, as he went to stand in front of her and placed a cautious hand on her knee.
" Damn right, we're nothing to mess with! By the way: did I already tell you what happened to the previous guy who wronged me, to the same degree you did? Hum, did I?! Did I?!"
" Er… no, but I'm guessing you probably didn't give him a puppy?" the weary Italian retorted, while scratching at the back of his head.
" Well, you guessed correctly: he's enjoying a nice stay at the hospital, right now and he'll probably never be able to use his right leg in the same way again," the blonde clarified, with a hint of a smile, as Joey quickly retracted his hand and took a few steps back, getting out something like: " Haa!", in the process.
" That's right… so, can you just, you know, like… LEAVE, like now, like right now?" Phoebe subsequently got out in frustration. All this random rambling he was doing, was really distracting her from her main priority.
" Oh, no, no, Pheebs. I'm not giving up that fast: now… why don't I just take th…"
" Don't touch the guitar!" the masseuse screamed, at the top of her lungs, grabbing the neck of the instrument and pulling it away, once she saw Joey's hand coming dangerously close to the currently partly messed-up wood. Her friend had already done enough damage, as it was, after all.
" O-kay, okay: I won't, alright? Now, chill woman! Jesus!"
" Oh, oh: I need to chill? Well, I'll tell you something, Joseph: I'm not chilling until you GOOO... AWAAY!"
" Well, you can forget about that, alright, I ain't leavin' til we made up, so deal with it!"
" Ugh, you know what? Fine, sit there: I don't care. I'll just go into the other room," the feisty blonde then muttered, right before getting up and beginning to pace over to her bedroom door.
" No, Phoebe, wait. I mean: come on. What are we fighting about really? I mean: it's not like I dropped the damn thing on purpose. It was an accident. I mean: I love guitars, I have a great deal of respect for 'em, you know," her actor friend attempted to patch things up, with a little nod, after he'd gently spun her around to face him.
" Oh, you do, don't you? Then, why don't you prove it? Apologize to him."
" Huh?"
" Apologize to the guitar, Joseph. It doesn't exactly take kindly to being manhandled, you know. Guitars have feelings too," Phoebe commanded earnestly, while treating him to another dirty look.
" What? But, Pheebs, I can't… I mean, that's a… I ca…" Joey began protesting. He quickly stopped talking however, when he noted the sheer fury currently springing to life in his best friend's eyes.
" Uhm… Mr guitar?… sweet, wise Mr guitar, can you like… please forgive me for hurting you, in the way that I did?" the actor then continued unsurely, yet seriously, as he solemnly fell to his knees and closed his eyes, almost as if in prayer.
" The guitar forgives you, Joseph. You can get back up now… Nice touch that you actually went down on your knees, by the way. You know, it was very believable like that," his friend then commented, suddenly seeming a lot more friendly, as she sent him an appreciative smile.
" Oh… okay, thanks, Pheebs!" Joey responded gratefully, while smiling back at her. He was just so glad she wasn't mad at him anymore. He never ever felt good, knowing Phoebe was angry with him.
" Sure," she chimed in, right before she carefully placed the guitar on its stand.
" Hey, but there's actually some other reason, as to why I came over, you know," he then went on, while making his way back over to the door and stepping back out into the hallway.
" Joey, what are you doing?"
" Okay, Pheebs: close your eyes," the handsome, young Italian subsequently announced enthusiastically, as he took the surprise for his best friend, from besides the door.
" Alright… but, you'd better not keep me waiting for too long, cause I'm gonna get bored soon," Phoebe agreed, shutting her eyes, all the while hearing Joey fumbling about outside, while she wondered what the hell he could be getting up to.
" Okay, you can open them again."
" What's going o… ooh, ooh, oh my god, Joey!" Phoebe exclaimed, once she'd fully taken in the scene in front of her: there was Joey, holding out a brand new guitar, for her to take.
" You like it?"
" Do I?! My god, Joey, this must've cost you like a fortune!"
" Aah, I'm willing to pay that much for a friend. Besides I owed it to ya, for screwing up your other one, you know," the actor shrugged, as he gave her the guitar, thoroughly enjoying that satisfied look on her face. Seeing Phoebe happy always gave him a warm, fuzzy feeling inside, for some reason.
" Wow, it's great, thank you!" the blonde brought in awe, right before she reached over to peck him on the cheek, hereby successfully causing Joey to blush.
" I'm going to try it out right away… ooh, ooh hey: I have an idea: why don't you play it with me? I mean: you already know some of the chords, right?!" Phoebe suddenly suggested excitedly.
" Uh… I don't know, Pheebs. I mean: didn't you say that I couldn't touch a guitar?"
" Awh, Joseph, that's all in the past now: come and sit with meee!" the masseuse urged impatiently, patting the spot besides her, after having slumped back out onto her couch.
" Alright, so… that's old lady, right?" Joey inquired curiously, while clumsily placing his left hand on the guitar.
" Yees! But I already knew you could do that one. Now try something else, like: iceberg, do Iceberg," the feisty blonde requested, as she watched her friend's fingers intently.
" Uh… let's see: like this?" he asked, positioning said fingers in a certain way, while sticking out his tongue in sheer concentration, in the process.
" No, oh no, I mean: you are doing bear claw, right now, which is good!... Ya know. But iceberg, iceberg is actually like… this," Phoebe helped him out, as she showed him how it was done, once again.
" Oh, ooh, I get it: so like… this, right?"
" Uhm… well noo, not exactly. Your pointer finger is supposed to be over there, you know, like just a string lower… there, that's it! I knew you could do it! Good job!" Phoebe then commented, after having put one of Joey's fingers in the right place, effectively causing a warm tingle he couldn't quite understand to rush through his veins.
" Woow, so I'm actually doing it right, now? Thanks, Phoebe," he expressed his gratitude, while he bent over to kiss her on the lips, thinking nothing of it, as he'd pecked her on the lips numerous times. They were pretty close after all.
" Hey, it was nothing, it was easy," the blonde replied, somewhat dazed. That kiss had actually felt quite good, if she were to be quite honest with herself.
" Heey, it was somethin'. I could never have figured that stuff out, all on my own. You're such a great teacher! Way better than Andy Cooper," Joey retorted honestly, as he looked her deep in the eyes, nearly getting lost in them, on the spot.
" Oh, well: yeah… I am a great teacher. I mean: my other… student: she thinks my method is the best one in the entire world."
" Well, she's right and you wanna know somethin' else? Your other student… well, I think she's pretty hot, to be honest," the actor suddenly stated huskily, while brushing his thumb over Phoebe's cheek.
" Joey, what are you…"
" Shh," Joey hushed her, placing a finger against her lips, right before he took his chance and claimed them quite passionately, hereby prompting the masseuse to return his kiss, as she'd never experienced such a tender lip-lock before.
" Well… that was… different," she finally managed to utter, after their intense make-out session had come to its end.
" Yeah… is it wrong that I kind of want to do it again, though?" Joey stated, while giving Phoebe a longing look.
" No, no not all. I mean: I kind of want to do it again, too," Phoebe responded, returning the simmering gaze, right before putting her new guitar away, climbing right atop of him and trapping his lips, never wanting to let go of him again.
