Chapter 12: Ones Who Are Finally At Peace
The funeral had been held on a hill on a somewhat sunny day. The leaves had started to change colours and fall from the trees. The grass blew in the gentle breeze and blew through the petals on the flowers that were placed on four separate graves.
Four graves that contained four friends, brothers, military officials and lovers. General Roy Mustang, Col. Edward Elric, his brother Alphonse Elric and Dayna Simerion. They were buried beside each other as their friends and close enough family members stood by.
The bodies of Roy and Al were never recovered, but their graves were there as they should be.
When the service ended, Riza and the others turned to leave, but then a cold breeze blew by them and they thought they heard voices along the breeze.
They turned around to look back at the graves and standing there smiling were four familiar faces. There was no mistaking of who they were, you could tell just by the smiles. Faint, but still visible were the figures of Ed, Al, Roy and Dayna; all wearing a radiant white and standing at the top of the hill. They looked happy as they smiled down upon the group.
Ed and Dayna were holding hands and he looked like his old self again, not an ouroboros tattoo in sight and the blood-red markings were gone.
It was great to see Al and Roy again. Roy smiled extra wide as he looked into Riza's eyes. Al looked as cheery as ever; glad to have his brother back by his side. They had all given themselves to save one another in a way.
There was one last breeze in the air before they faded away, waving goodbye and also in thanks. The group waved back before they headed towards the cars.
Riza stopped and turned to look back at the graves when she noticed something new. She walked back up to the graves and smiled, at each one was four small blue flowers. She looked back up and saw that the sun was setting. She knelt down and picked on from each grave and held them to her chest.
Tears rolled down her cheeks, but they weren't tears of sadness or pain, she cried because she was happy.
'Firefly grass only blooms during the night and its petals will glow like the wings of fireflies. A legend has it that if you hold it to your chest and pray while it's in bloom, then the person you're thinking of will be able to feel it, no matter how far away they are. Ed, Al, Roy and Dayna…I'm glad that your together and finally at peace'.
In order to gain something, one must give something of the same value.
This is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange.
At that time we believed that to be the world's one and only truth…we proved that it's true.
