12 Hours Earlier
"Hello" Toby answers
"Hey Toby its Caleb" he replied
"Hey man what's going on? How's Ravenswood?" Toby asked
"It's going well thanks, I need to ask you a question" he replied
"What's up" Toby asked
"Have you seen Ezra Fitz in the past few hours…like do you know if he's in town?" Caleb asked
"I haven't seen him and I'm not sure that he's in town" he replied "but why what's going on"
"I think he's in Ravenswood" Caleb replied sounding a little shaken up over it
"Ravenswood?" Toby repeated
"Look, I've been in Ravenswood for a while now, I've had time to do some research on people and places, when Hanna and the girls where here I know they found a place they believed to be the lair. I looked into it it's been rented out to the same person for 6 months and that's right after the lair had to be moved. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a coincidence but I think Ezra's car is parked in the lot behind the building" Caleb replied "Do you want to come check it out?"
Toby was a few steps ahead of him he just stuck a note on the fridge "Went out to the lot in Bucks county then having movie night with Spencer" and by the time Caleb asked him to come he was already pulling out of the Brew's parking lot. "I'm on my way" he replied "See you in a half hour"
Toby pulled up into the driveway of the place The Collins were letting Caleb live in. Caleb welcomed Toby in and put the computer and his notepad in front of them on the table.
"Want something to drink" Caleb asked
"I'm fine thanks" Toby replied before sitting down on the couch next to Caleb. "Nice place you've got here"
"Ya it's pretty nice" He replied
"So are you the only one who lives here?" Toby asked
"In this house" he paused giving Miranda a look "Technically speaking yes, but Mr. Collins owns the rest of the property and Mrs. Grunwald lives with him"
Back to current time; Fade in: Lair
"It's being taken care of" the black hooded figure said as they entered the room, before seating themselves on the couch across from the other person.
"What is" he asked trying to stay solely focused on what he was doing on the computer.
"What we talked about if your little friend ever decided she was going to give up your identity" the black hooded person replied back
His chair spun around suddenly to face him "She would never tell her friends"
"Well she did" he replied back handing his friend the phone with the I know who –A is message.
"What did you do to her" he demanded
"What we talked about during dinner" he replied
"But ugh... I… I didn't think she'd actually say something" he replied sitting back in his chair.
Caleb's House
"I think I have all the information I need" Toby replied as he gathered his stuff
"I'm glad I could help" Caleb said
"I think I'm going to head over there now" Toby said as he looked out the window across the street towards the lair.
"Come back whenever you like" he said
"I will thank you so much for helping me, it was great to see you" Toby replied before him and Caleb shared a quick a hug
"Bye" Caleb said as Toby headed for the door "How's Hanna doing?" he quickly asked before Toby left
"She's fine" he replied "she misses you"
"I miss her too, things are just too complicated right now for me to leave, give her my best ok?" he asked
"Of course" Toby replied "Come visits soon" Toby replied before heading across the street to investigate.
Lair
"I can't believe you actually followed through with that plan" he said burying his face in his hands
"It's not my fault she sent the text" the black hooded person replied
Suddenly the door slammed silencing their argument, we watched her as she walked in, her blonde locks flowing behind her
"What on earth are you too arguing about I could hear you a block away" the girl in the red coat said as she stood across the room from them
But before they could answer another person came into the lair
"What the hell did you do? This didn't have to happen this way! You could've talked to her told her it wasn't true and that she was just fooling herself! I just got a call from Spencer that she's in the waiting room of the hospital waiting for news about Aria, and all they knew was she got in a wreck! Why? Why did yall do that to her and don't say you have no idea, because I know she sent the "I think I know who –A is" text to the girls" he replied
She chuckled at him before walking across the room to be closer to him "I thought you didn't need us anymore Toby? You can't just come around when you want answers. Last I heard you were done with the team and you where choosing your girlfriend over us and you know that's not acceptable"
"Then why is Ezra here? He loves Aria he does" Toby replied
"I'm not so sure about that Toby" she replied
"Ok I'll leave if you can look me in the eye right now and tell me you have no feelings for her she's just another girl and you don't love her anymore, say it and I'll leave" Toby replied
Ezra stared down at the floor for a minute before looking up at Toby, he took a deep breath before saying "It's true… I don't love her anymore"
"I don't believe you" he replied "there's no way you could just not love her anymore" he replied
Red Coat intervened "I think both of you need to go cool down" she said and motioned for them to leave her lair.
Ezra left the building quickly and headed towards his car, But Toby was asked to stay
Ezra got in his car and pounded the horn angrily a couple of times " It was never supposed to go this far, I was doing this for her, it wasn't my choice, well I guess it was, I had the choice between losing her or losing the relationship. So I had to choose to end the relationship because if I went everyday knowing I let her go and she was gone forever because of me I could never think of myself the same way it would just kill me every day. But now that she's in the hospital fighting for her life and I don't even have a relationship with her, I question my judgment because if only I had let her know sooner that I was on the team to Help her not hurt her she would never be in this position, and the fact that she's now fighting for her life there's nothing anyone can do except her doctors, I just I don't know what to do anymore" he said as he cried in his car.
Meanwhile in the lair
"Toby come here for a second" she said "You have 24 hours to give me a final answer about the –A team if you join fine but if not your dead to me! And I mean that don't come back here ever and never come storming into the lair again do you understand" she asked
"I understand, I just thought I had to quit because the girls found out" he replied
"No them knowing is almost better because they wouldn't suspect for you to still be doing stuff because they know" she replied "Now leave, you have 24 hours" she replied
As he opens the door to leave he notices Ezra's car still sitting on the far side of the parking lot. He hops in his car and drives across the lot and parks a few feet from Ezra's car then hops out and knocks on the window.
"Want to talk" Toby asks
Ezra shakes his head "I'm fine"
"I was in the same position you're in a few months ago. I'm headed back to Rosewood now you can come, but if you don't want my help…" he says walking away.
"Fine" Ezra says "I'll come with you"
"I knew you loved her" Toby says as Ezra gets into the car.
He shrugs his shoulders "How could I not"
The first few minutes of the car drive was dead silent before Toby interrupted "So how did she find out"
Ezra took a deep breath "Well, I guess for a while she was coming over to the apartment on occasion between classes and after school" he replied
"How did you find out she had been there?" Toby asked
"I honestly thought I was crazy at first, I'd come home and think I smelled her perfume or I would find her lip gloss by the sink and I just thought maybe it had always been there, but the next day it would be gone. I realized I wasn't crazy she had been coming over but was trying to make in unnoticeable .But I didn't care that she was coming over I wanted that, it made me feel like there was still a chance for us," he replied as a small smile formed across his face.
"So how did Aria find out you where –A?" Toby asked
"Cece was sending me a package in the mail, an old camera that belonged to Lucas, she wanted me to go through the pictures to see if I could find anything unusual. When the box was ready to be picked up I was on vacation but someone picked it up anyway. No one knew it wasn't me who picked up the box, so later in the day Cece called me to ask if I had gotten the chance to go through the pictures yet. That's when I told her I was out of town and she told be someone else had picked it up. So she went by the apartment and after noticing Aria's car in the lot she went upstairs. She looked in the peep hole of the door and saw Aria going through the pictures. After that she called me and said I had 24 hours to do something or I'd be kicked off the team." He replied
"So basically you knew that she knew you were –A before she actually knew?" Toby asked
"Exactly" Ezra replied
"So what'd you do" Toby asked
"She was going to find out eventually anyway so I sent her a package to arrive at the apartment when I knew she was going to be there, so she would want to go through it especially because I was away"
"So what was in the box?" Toby asked
"Everything in the box where things to make her believe I was truly –A so she would back away from this before she got hurt. So that at least I would know she's safe. In this box there was a Lolita book, a postcard from Cape May, and a postcard from Hilton Head, the wrapper from the Board Short Ale Bottle, a Missing Rosewood Girl picture of her from the Labor Day weekend newspaper, and pictures of the girls at several venues. My plan was for her to at the least think I was board shorts, I was trying to get her to stay away from me until I knew I was on level ground. My plan was never to hurt her." He replied very sincerely
"When did you join" Toby asked
"The night of the Halloween train to save her" Ezra replied as they pulled into the hospital parking lot.
"Do you think she'll ever forgive me or at least listen to my side of the story" Ezra asked while getting out of the car.
"Eventually she'll be ready to talk to you, she just needs time to let everything sink in" Toby replied as they walked into the hospital.
