"Valerie," Grant sighed, setting down his backpack as he spied the woman in question behind a set of stalagmites, "what are you doing?" The Johto woman's head whipped around upon hearing his voice and smiled. She waved from where she was, not making a move to free herself from her position.

"Hiya Grant! You headed to Shalour City?" she asked. Grant nodded slowly, eyebrow raised. "Yeah, Korrina called me this morning, asked if I wanted to meet up and maybe have a race. Now what are you doing?" He asked again. Valerie didn't answer immediately, instead choosing to move so she wasn't stuck behind some rocks. She clambered over a piece of rock wall that jutted out into the path and jumped off onto solid ground again.

"I'm trying to find something," she said, walking over to a crack in the cave wall and pulling out a satchel. Grant couldn't help but smile at the modifications Valerie had made to the bag, the Butterfree embroidered onto the corner of the flap catching his attention in particular. The young woman reached into the bag and pulled out a book. She handed it to Grant and said, "Page 156." As Grant flicked through the book to reach the page indicated by Valerie, he asked, "Where'd you get this?"

"Kali was in Sinnoh on vacation last month. I think she went with Shannon, one of Wulfric's gym trainers..." She trailed off as she thought about it, making her friend roll his eyes until she shook her head and continued, "Anyway, she and Shannon went to Sinnoh and while she was in Canalave City, she got me that book from the library there. 'Cause I've got to admit, I'm still not all that informed on Kalos' myths and legends." She finished with a chuckle, which Grant returned as he said, "You do know Parfum Palace has a library itself, right? Chances are, they probably have this book themselves there, and if you ask nicely, the Furfrou maniac would let you borrow it. It'd be easier than having to pack this up and ship it to Sinnoh when you need to return it." Valerie shrugged.

"I didn't think to get the book before Kali got it for me. It wasn't till she gave it to me that I figured it'd be nice to brush up on regional myths."

"Fair enough. So," he said as he reached the page, "what am I looking at here?" Valerie smiled broadly as she tapped the illustration on the page. "That. That's what I'm looking for." Grant pressed his lips together before sighing, "And what is that?"

"Read the chapter and you'll see!" Valerie said, bouncing on the balls of her feet with excitement. She only stopped when her stomach growled quietly and she blushed. "Actually, do you have some sandwiches or something in your bag? I've been at this all morning and I didn't really bring anything with me to have for lunch." Grant shook his head, albeit with a small smile on his face as he said, "Sure, I brought some sandwiches with me. I've never really trusted Korrina's cooking skills." This made the woman laugh before she began scrambling around the Rock specialist's bag for her lunch.

Grant took a seat on a small rock near the mirrored wall as he began to read while Valerie, once she'd found the sandwiches, sat cross-legged on the ground and regarded the man closely as she ate. As he read, his expression grew all the more confused, until he found himself asking with a tone of disbelief in his voice, "So, let me just get one thing straight; you're looking for Diancie?" Valerie nodded enthusiastically, unable to answer due to the food in her mouth. The man shook his head slowly.

"You do realise that Diancie is just a myth, right? No-one's seen it, at least not for about 3000 years. As far as anyone knows, it did exist once but then vanished after the Great War. So I think you're on a wild Ducklett chase here, Val," he said. Valerie simply stared at him as she finished chewing her food, then once she'd swallowed it, she simply responded, "Well I don't." Grant sighed.

"Did you not just hear me?" The woman nodded. "I did. And I think you're wrong." He sighed again, "And why do you think I'm wrong?" She smiled as she said in a quiet voice, "Because who says seeing is believing? Just 'cause no-one's seen Diancie since the Great War, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Most people don't see a lot of legendary pokémon nowadays, but do they doubt they exist?"

"Okay, that's a fair enough point, I'll give you that," he said as she took the book off him and bagged it once more as she stood and looked around the cave. He then added, "But again, there's been no evidence that Diancie is still around, not in Kalos or in any over region if it left because of the War. Part of the reason most people do believe in legendary pokémon, even if they never get to see them in their lifetime, is because they leave traces of themselves and their power." It was Valerie's turn to sigh, and she turned to face her friend, wearing a pout as she asked, "Did you even read the chapter?"

Grant, unphased by her expression, nodded and said, "Yes, I did. It mentioned exactly what I just told you; about how Diancie did exist at one point, and did interact with humans and pokémon, and how it suddenly disappeared once the War started. And it also mentioned something about Carbink-" Valerie suddenly cut him off with a loud exclamation that echoed off the walls of Reflection Cave, "Exactly! Diancie is a Rock/Fairy legendary pokémon, while Carbink itself is also a Rock/Fairy pokémon. Where can Carbink be found? Right here" - she paused to do a spin, arms outstretched, motioning to the cave they were seated in - "in Reflection Cave! And that chapter also said that when Diancie disappeared, Carbink suddenly showed up. Therefore, the two have to be connected in some way, right?"

"Okay, that is just an assumption of your part, and it's a pretty big one. I'm sorry Val, but you don't really have evidence to prove any of that, aside from that book," he responded. There was a long pause before Valerie then responded, almost matter-of-factly, "They also look similar." The man had to resist the urge to smack his forehead. He adored Valerie, he really did. She was probably one of his closest friends, and they did get along quite well. But even she had her moments. This - he was realising, a tad late - appeared to be one of them.

"How can you tell that?" he asked slowly, trying to keep his composure, "For the last time, Diancie hasn't been seen in thousands of years, and before you mention it, the picture in the book doesn't really show much. Especially not enough to make a comparison." Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something move, and when he turned to look, he saw a Carbink partially hiding behind a stalagmite, peaking out at them. Valerie turned to see what he was looking at, then gasp in pleasent surprise.

"I'm guessing you know it," Grant muttered, though his query didn't receive a response as the woman ran up to the small pokémon with a giggle, and once she'd reached it, she bent down and asked, "Did you follow me?" The Carbink chirped happily, circling the gym leader and making her laugh. She stood and motioned for the Carbink to follow her as she rejoined Grant and said, "I met this little guy earlier when I first got here. It was stuck between some spikes and I helped it out. I might've spent some time with it before beginning my search, but I didn't expect it to follow me all the way here." The man's eyebrow arched itself as he smiled with amusement.

"So you made a friend without realising it?" The Carbink let out what sounded like a muffled purr before it floated up to hover by Valerie's shoulder. The woman smiled herself and responded as she raised her hand and pet the pokémon gently on its head, "I guess so." It was then that a faint buzzing sound started up to Valerie's confusion, however it was very quickly satisfied once Grant removed his phone from his pocket.

"It's Korrina," he said with a grimace. "Damn, I was supposed to meet her." He quickly answered it, though not before he heard Valerie, her face suddenly a faint pink, say, "Oops. Sorry." While he was off talking with the young girl, Valerie turned back to the Carbink, a nervous smile on her face. "Korrina won't be happy with him for being late. And it was sort of my fault," she said with a small chuckle. The Rock/Fairy blinked, then nuzzled her arm, carefully so as not to injur the woman with its body. This made the Johto woman chuckle, this time with amusement.

"You are too cute," she giggled as she grabbed it in a hug. Grant turned back to face the woman, having finished his call with an annoyed Korrina, and said, "Well, she wasn't happy." Valerie blushed again and muttered with a pout, "Sorry." The man waved his hand, saying, "It's fine. I'll give her a day or two to calm down and she'll be fine about it. Either way, it'd be too late to head there now. I'm gonna head home." He picked up his backpack but he didn't put it on yet, instead adding, "Actually, you should probably head home yourself. Korrina said the League's been trying to get in touch with you, and when they couldn't, they started calling other leaders, asking where you were."

"Ah. Yeah, that would be smart," she chuckled nervously, aware of the stare Grant was giving her at that moment; even without saying aloud, she knew he was pretty much saying "so you forgot your phone again". She looked down the the Carbink that was still in her arms and said, "I kind of don't want to leave this one though. I want to take it home with me."

"So why don't you? I'm sure it wouldn't mind going with you, considering it followed you all through the cave. Just catch it in a Poké Ball," Grant said, and he began to pull on his backpack, only to stop as he saw Valerie's expression, to which he sighed and removed his backpack, allowing him to take out a Poké Ball and toss it to the woman. "Val, any rookie trainer knows to carry Poké Balls on them at all times," he said matter-of-factly, though he still wore a small smile of amusement as he said it, making Valerie blush and smile back. He began to walk back the way he came, calling over his shoulder, "See you around."

Valerie watched his retreating back until he disappeared into the cave shadows. She looked around the cave once more before sighing and looking down at the Carbink, saying, "Well, I didn't get to find Diancie. It's a shame; it must be a really pretty pokémon." Carbink chirped back in response, and then there was long pause. The woman pursed her lips then smiled. She released the Carbink and said as she gave the Poké Ball Grant had given her a quick toss, "Well, there's nothing stopping me from looking again at a later date, right?" Carbink nodded, chirping cheerfully. Valerie's grip tightened on the Poké Ball, then held it out to show Carbink.

"So, do you really want to come with me?" Carbink regarded the ball carefully before nodding and pressing the button with one of its ears. The ball quivered in Valerie's hand before stopping, the click letting the woman know the pokémon had been captured. She smiled. Even if she hadn't found Diancie, she'd certainly made a friend that day. However, as she placed her new friend's Poké Ball into her satchel and began to make her way out of the cave, she couldn't help but feel as though she were being watched...

Dun dun dun!

Okay, yeah, hi, ignore me. Just bein' a derp, like usual. :p

Actually, youse probably won't ignore me. Instead, youse'll be all like, "Yo, what up, what happened to that 'at least once a week' thing you were talking about?" And to that, I say, sorry, I just...

I honestly didn't have any ideas over the weekend. Fortunately, I had an extended weekend from school, which I guess gave me more time. I'll still try and produce a drabble this weekend, don't worry!

Now this was inspired by Diancie's official confirmation. I mean it's got a thing in CoroCoro and everything! It'll be in the next movie! So yeah, figured it'd be cool to do something focusing on Diancie. And allow me to point out that I honestly didn't notice what I'd done here until I started writing this. And if you didn't notice it either, then allow me to point it out; Valerie, the Fairy specialist, and Grant, the Rock specialist, looking for Diancie, the Rock/Fairy legendary.

It was a coincidence, I swear! I just figured since the two seemed like friends, plus Valerie would be interested in Diancie since its part Fairy and part of the Kalos region's myths and she's from out of the region and Grant and Korrina would probably have a competitive thing going and shut up Angel-chan your rambling-

...So, to summarise; I'm sorry this was late, I will still provide a thing this weekend, this was inspired by Diancie and it becoming official official, and Valerie now has a Carbink. :D

Not for her gym team, don't worry. It'll be like a little buddy tho. It'll be so cute~.

Ahem, so, thank you for ready, I do so hope you enjoyed. Please do review and leave suggestions because suggestions are helpful. Considering I wasn't able to deliver on Saturday or Sunday, suggestions are really helpful cause then I have something I can work with. :'''D

...That sounds pathetic.

...

Thanks again!
