HI everyone! Yes, I am still alive, even though this is a two year later update. Whoops! I have no idea what happened before, and why I even stopped writing because I absolutely love it. My writing style may be a slightly different due to the many years of not writing and suddenly getting back into it. So as a gift for the season premiere of Book Four today here is Chapter 2.
KORRA POV
I'm attempting to get Naga to do a trick, just a simple sit is all I ask of her, but she desires is to lay on the cool snow. Then, out of the corner of my eye I see black smoke coming our way and a large Fire Nation ship. I run back to my home in fear of the raids Master Katara told me about. I hop on my small cot and pull the covers over my head, both of my parents are gone on a trip to meet with the people planning to take me and have me complete Avatar Training.
There's a small knock on my door and I jump in surprise.
"Korra, it's me open up, we have guests," Master Katara says on the other side of the door.
Guests, who would want to visit to the Southern tribe for fun, I open the door and I walk out with Katara at my side.
"Korra, you remember my Grandson Iroh," Katara introduces me to a young boy with his hair slicked back and in black, red, and white robes.
I shake my head in a 'no' response, but something about his name and face is very familiar until it clicks.
"Iroh?" I say with half a smile and slight curiosity.
"Hello Miss Korra," he says with a smile.
"Okay you two, go have some fun, I'll be talking to Gran Gran for awhile Iroh," says a woman with black hair and wearing the same kind of robes as Iroh. Katara and the woman leave into Katara's hut and leave Iroh and I looking at each other.
"So, how have you been?" I ask honestly interested.
"Well, and you," he says still standing like a small statue.
"Good, I'm still trying to teach Naga some tricks." I say.
"Sounds like fun," he says and I'm starting to feel a little uncomfortable.
"Did you get brainwashed," I ask and he looks at me with a surprised face.
"No, why would you ask such a thing," he replies and his cheeks get red.
"You're not like you used to be, I remember you were fun and not so weird," I state matter-o-factly.
"I have to be a proper gentleman, I am royalty," he says, but I can see him slump his shoulders and begin to slouch.
"Well do you still want to penguin sled?"
"I wouldn't ask for anything better to do," he says and we smile.
I grab Iroh's hand in mine and I lead him towards the gate. Then the same guard as last time stops us.
"Oh it's you two, where do you plan on going?"
"Penguin sledding," I announce and the guard just laughs and opens the gate.
"Be safe out there, because it's my head if you get hurt," he warns and I chuckle in response.
"Okie dokie, c'mon Iroh, you're holding me up," I say while tugging his arm.
"Well stop pulling on me," he struggles and I continue to guide him.
I hop onto a penguin first and I start down a long slope and I look behind me to see Iroh getting on his penguin and sliding down also.
"This is so much fun!" I yell as we glide down the hill.
"This is crazy!" Iroh yells as he gains speed down the hill behind me and our laughter fills the air.
We reach the end of the slope and we lay in the snow looking up to the clear sky. I help Iroh up when we both start sneezing due to the chilly weather and the frost begins to nip our fingers.
"Come on, I think Katara made some soup," I say and I grab his hand again and lead him back to the hut.
"So, how has being the Avatar been?" Iroh asks as I drag him along the snow.
"It's been weird, I'm leaving in a month when I turn nine to actually start training," I say and we arrive at the gate.
"Back already, well hurry back home," the guards smiles and sees us on our way.
"Well, happy early birthday," Iroh wishes me and I smile.
"Thanks. Iroh what do you want to do when you're older?" I ask him and we arrive back in the hut and our bowls of soup are laid out in front of us.
"I want to be a General for the U.N.," he cheers and slurps up his soup.
"You get to choose?" I ask and I take small sips of the soup.
"Yup, what about you Korra? What do you wanna do when your older," Iroh asks and wipes his chin with a cloth.
"I have no choice, but to be the Avatar," I solemnly.
"Why are you sad?" he asks, "Being the Avatar is amazing!" he yells.
"Yeah, I guess, it's just that it's no fun. Have you ever heard of probending?" I ask him.
"Yeah, I hear it's popular in Republic City," he says and finishes the last bit of his soup.
"That's what I want to do, be a probender and live in Republic City, I'll still be the Avatar, but I want to have fun while doing it," I say and I slurp up the rest of my soup by tipping the bowl back and letting the warm liquid slide down my throat.
"Hey, I wanna show you something," Iroh says and grabs my hand and leads me outside into the cold again.
"What now," I whine; I just wanna hang with Naga near the fire.
"It's this really cool thing my grandfather taught me," Iroh says and we stop in the middle of a large clearing, "It's called The Dancing Dragon. My grandfather did it with Avatar Aang, when they wen to go discover the roots of firebending."
"Wow, did Firelord Zuko tell you all of this?" I question.
"Yeah, well I thought it would be cool if I had the chance to dance with the Avatar also," Iroh says and I smile.
"Okay, show me everything," I request. We stand out there for nearly an hour trying to learn all of the steps, and I fell many times into the snow. Until finally we were able to accomplish the dance, I had never felt more alive than I did doing the technique.
"Ah, the Dancing Dragon," Katara says as she exits the hut, with I assume to be Iroh's mother, " I remember when Zuko and Aang came back from their journey and showed us that. We all thought they were ridiculous."
"I remember dad taught me that move when I was just starting to learn firebending, I'm glad he also passed it down to you," Iroh's mom says and rubs Iroh's perfectly gelled hair causing it to fly in many directions.
"Mom!" Iroh whines and I only giggle.
"Iroh, it's about time we head out. Thank you for having me again mom," she says and hugs Katara.
"Bye Gran Gran," Iroh says and also hugs Katara.
"So you're leaving again," I say and I cross my arms and I can feel tears slide down my cold face.
"I have to, but hey, I'll see you again really soon, maybe we can even firebend against each other!" he requests and I smile.
"It's a deal," I agree and I lean in and hug him, "I'm going to miss you."
"I'm going to miss you too young Avatar," he says and gives me a tight squeeze.
"Write to me, I've gotten a lot better at writing," I suggest.
"Sounds good to me," he says and I watch his mom and him ascend onto the large Firenation boat. Katara and I both wave goodbye to them and we watch the boat pull away.
"Katara," I say as we head back to the hut hand-in-hand, "Can you tell me more about Avatar Aang."
"I knew you were going to ask me this sometime. Let's go home and have some tea dear, this whole story may take quite a while," she says and she smiles down at me.
I know this is a super short chapter and it's mainly a filler, just so I can get my brain gears working again and actually develop a good story. Please comment and review and I am very sorry if there are grammatical mistakes! I'll try to update again next Friday, but I also have midterms so I really have no idea. Wish me luck!
