Wanda Maximoff was sitting in the back of one very smelly, old truck. In front of her sat a young guard, who was looking at her as if she was a ticking time bomb. Although Wanda knew she was capable of taking him out with only a little bit of effort, she did not do it. She believed she never stood a chance of getting away without causing a lot of trouble, as she had no idea about the amount of people who were guarding the truck besides the skinny dude who was looking at her. Her brother was also not around, which bothered her a lot. If she broke out, she endangered him as well as herself. She acknowledged that he would be able to make a quick getaway if necessary, but still – escaping did not feel like an option for her. She had to wait it out, as she had seen. Because she could do that, she could see things that no one else ever saw in his life.
When Wanda touched people, or anything in particular, she could tell where they have been, where they will go next and what will happen to them in the future. Many people should say that it's the most wonderful gift in the world, but Wanda only found it disturbing. Among all the things she was capable of, she was most afraid this 'future/past telling power' of her, as her brother used to call it. She tried not to use her skill as much, and it had been a long time before she did. But when that man touched her a couple of days ago, her power was triggered all by itself. She did not intend to read that persons past and future, but it happened anyway. Wanda did not like the things she saw when she grabbed the man's arm and she had been bothered by it ever since. She knew that, once she would meet him again, she'd have to tell him about everything she'd seen, but right now, she did not want to think about that. She tried to focus something else instead: Africa. That's where they were heading, 'cause she'd seen it. The man from the facility would be there, among others. They would come to her aid and would help her brother as well. Wanda decided to rely on that, as it was yet another reason not to take care of things herself. But that didn't mean she had not figured out a plan of her own, just to be sure.
The guard in front of her suddenly coughed and Wanda looked up at him. She could see the fear in his eyes, but it had become familiar to her. People are afraid of her, and they have been all her life. When she was approached by Baron Von Strucker months ago, he'd told her that he was not afraid. He told her that he admired her, he admired what she could do and what her brother could do. He was the first person ever to act casual around her as soon as he found out about her powers and he had charmed her because of it. She fell for it instantly and went with him when he asked her to.
It was probably the biggest mistake she ever made.
After they arrived at the facility in Kazakhstan, Von Strucker managed to sedate her and Pietro and locked them up in those filthy cells. At first, Wanda believed that the Baron was just another bounty hunter, only interested in money. She figured he would sell her and Pietro to some freak, or scientist, or who knows… But he didn't. In fact he hadn't lied about everything either: he truly was interested in her powers. But for what reason, she couldn't figure out. She tried to read the man, to touch him, but somehow, her powers had no effect on him whatsoever. It took her a while to find out how it was even possible. She considered the possibility that he was special like her and her brother, but that couldn't have been the case. Sure, she'd caught whispers during her time at the facility. Von Strucker was old, very old, and yet he still appeared to be young. But, as far as she could deduce from the whispers, it was not due to him being special. He was made this way, experimented on – or so everybody believed. Wanda never really dropped the idea of Von Strucker being special and not just a mere experiment, until she laid eyes on it: the scepter. A golden, shiny scepter holding some kind of blue orb. That thing radiated power and Wanda was sure that something like that didn't belong on earth. It was special, and she was sure that it could also make things special. Perhaps it rendered Von Strucker immune to everything she could do. Perhaps that scepter was the reason he remainded young and vivid. Of course, Wanda would be able to tell exactly everything that scepter ever did as she could have touched it, but no one ever let her come near it. Of course not.
The guard in front of Wanda coughed again.
"Do you need a tissue or something?" Wanda asked. The guys eyes flickered towards her and Wanda snorted. "To bad I don't have one. Maybe I can abracadabra your cold away for you?" she offered. The guard shifted uncomfortably, and Wanda smiled. Her plan was working so far, because the guy seemed to be losing it. Although she did not have a sadistic personality, Wanda kind of enjoyed teasing the guards around her.
"No, alright then, your bad," she smiled again and lifted her handcuffed hands and made mystical gestures with them. The guard yelped and Wanda started to laugh: "Not helping? I am just teasing you, alright?"
Suddenly the truck stopped and someone opened the back door.
"Everything alright in here?" another guard asked. Wanda looked at him with glee: "Absolutely sir, just peachy." To prove her point, she lifted her feet and put them on the lap of the guard she had been teasing moments before. The man nearly peed his pants.
"Miss Maximoff, please," he pleaded.
"Fine, fine, whatever you want!" she smiled as she replaced her feet. "Sissy," she added.
"What happened to you?" the guard at the back of the truck asked Wanda, "I believe they told me you were a shy person? Never spoke? You don't seem so innocent to me!"
Wanda waved her hands, like she was trying to shoo a dog: "Nothing, just getting bored and trying to entertain myself. Nobody wanted to play a game of cards with me, my brother is not around to chat, so I had a little fun with my buddy over here." She pointed at the shaking guard in front of her.
The other guard sighed: "Well, fun is over, you are leaving this truck."
"Why?"
"We will be heading for open sea, my lady. We are boarding ship."
"Nice!" Wanda struggled to her feet and grabbed her not so healthy looking guard. "We can all go Titanic, can we? You can be Leo, I can be Kate and my brother can by my jealous fiancé. That would be awesome."
The guard fainted and his colleague sighed: "Come on out, or I'll sedate you." Wanda shrugged and looked at the guard at her feet: "Should I drag him along for you?"
"No, just leave him alone, please!"
Wanda put up an innocent face: "Fine." And she marched out of the truck. She was sure she heard the guard at the doors curse as she walked passed him. 'Great,' she thought.
"Guess you'll need to find me another personal bodyguard – again," she stated, "That would be the …" She counted on her fingers and pretended to be trying really hard to remember something, "The fifth one in only one day, no?" She grinned mischievously.
"Yes, indeed, and would you please be so kind and try not to scare the hell out of the next one," the man was almost pleading.
"That depends," Wanda said teasingly. She looked at the other man expectantly. He narrowed his eyes: "What do you want?"
"My brother, please. I would like to see if he's okay," she told the man.
"That's all? You'll behave after that?"
"That's all!"
The guard did not seem to believe her. Wanda cocked her head to the left and asked: "Do you want me to pinky-swear?"
The guard shook his head: "No, fine, fine, I'll ask the boss if you can see him. Come on," He poked her in the back with his handgun and Wanda started to move.
Another 30 minutes later, Wanda was sitting on a couple of crates next to a cage containing her brother, who was for once not running around at full speed.
"How did you do it?" Pietro urged for the third time, "Convince them that you could talk to me?"
Wanda smiled at him, her lips sealed.
"Come on sis, it's not funny. I annoyed the hell out of these guys and they did not listen to me at all! What did you do?" Wanda's eyes twinkled: "Actually, I did pretty much the same thing. I pretended to be you: an annoying douche. I figured they would put all of the tougher and less easily annoyed guys with you – as you are the badass guy. I got the nice, new guards without any experience with douchebags at all."
"Lucky you."
"Lucky me, but dham, it's not easy being as annoying as you are. But it worked. Scared the hell out of those guys, annoyed them to death, managed to get a hold on every single one of them, did a little future-past telling and guess what?"
Pietro lolled his eyes: "Come on, just spill the beans already."
"They really have no clue about what we are capable of."
"Poor bastards."
"But that's not everything."
Pietro raised an eyebrow.
"My last guard, he had a lot of valuable information. Do you remember that shiny scepter they kept near us all the time?"
"The one that that guy…"
"Sssst!" Wanda urged, "Yeah, that one."
"Uhu."
"They didn't find it. They don't know where it is and somehow, it's freaking them out."
"No kiddin'."
"Sure is. That is an interesting development, is it? That thing, it might really be as important as I thought it was! We have to find it, you know, once we get out."
"But you said it…"
Wanda shut her brother up again: "Sssst! I know what I said about it, I know what I saw! That scepter will play an important role in what is about to come. But I say we can try to alter the future."
"You know we can't do that," Pietro mused.
"Maybe we can, we can at least try," Wanda told him.
"What do you intend to do then?"
"As soon as they free us – and they will free us – we'll steal it. They'll have it with them. We'll give it back as soon as we know what we want to. And afterwards, they can do with it whatever they want."
"So you don't want to prevent what is about to happen?"
"No, you can't alter the future, but maybe we can postpone it?"
A/N: I know, I know, I haven't updated in centuries and I am sorry! School was really keeping me occupied, and I've also been busy the last couple of weeks. But here is another chapter, and I hope I can keep updating more frequently in the future. Thanks anyway for following and favoriting, even though I am such a bad updater! Please let me know what you think!
