Wanda felt bad about scaring of the guards all day. She had done so with a purpose, but she ultimately decided it was not like her at all to behave as a first class bitch. Her brother had been amazed by the way she had gathered information of several HYDRA grunts, he even called it a 'stroke of genius'. But Wanda assured him that her behavior had been a one-time thing – from now on, no more bitching and scaring people for her. Besides, being a bit of an a-hole was more her brothers thing anyway.
So when Wanda boarded the ship that would take them to Africa, she left her bitchy attitude behind and did her best to act nice towards the guards. But that didn't work out as well as she expected, because no matter how hard she tried, people remained scared of her, even though she did not harm a fly. Pietro, on the other hand, found it rather amusing that people did not want to be around the pair of them. But for some reason, he was still locked up in a cage on deck of the ship, whilst Wanda was only handcuffed, but free to go and stand wherever she wanted to. So maybe, the guard did notice that Wanda meant no harm to them. After all, those poor men didn't ask for this crapy job, as far as Wanda could tell. Most HYDRA men on this ship where volunteers, who had been lured into thinking that joining HYDRA was the best thing to do. Their lives weren't worth as much anyway.
Wanda took the opportunity and started to roam around the ship, only to find out that there wasn't anything interesting to find. Except for crates, soldiers, rummage, more crates, more soldiers and more rummage. Finally, Wanda returned to her brothers cage, only to find it guarded by about a dozen of men. Clearly, she was not allowed to talk to Pietro anymore. Reluctantly, she sat down somewhere at the helm of the ship and looked at the horizon.
"You might wonder where we are going…" a voice coming from behind her said. Wanda did not have to turn around to know who it belonged to. Her heart even skipped a beat as she realized who it was. He was supposed to be dead, wasn't he? She had seen it, in her vision. She had been sure that the man had killed him, so how was it possible that he was standing right behind her? Wanda inhaled as she turned her head and peeked over her shoulder. Behind her, in his full glory, stood no one else than Baron Wolfang Von Strucker himself. Wanda tried very hard to hide her discomfort and told the man she was actually very curious about their destination, not willing to reveal she actually already knew where they were heading.
"Well, I promise you, miss Maximoff, that we are heading to warmer places. I believe you will like it there," Von Strucker told her in his heavy german accent.
"I surely hope I will," Wanda replied softly, turning her head away from Von Strucker, afraid that her face would betray her feelings.
"You might also want to know the reason why I let you sit here all by yourself," the Baron went on.
"Actually," Wanda confessed, "I did want to know that. But I did not want to disturb you by asking."
Because I did not know you were even alive, she added mentally.
"Ah, isn't that nice of you. You see, I decided it might be better to treat you more as my equal, rather than a prisoner. After all, you and I and your brother are all – special."
Wanda nodded, still not looking at the Baron. Her brain was working overdue, trying to figure out how he could be alive. He was special, he said. Like her – maybe that's how he survived?
"Yes, we are indeed," Wanda admitted, "Thank you, by the way. For letting me out. I really like the fresh air."
"You're welcome," the Baron replied, sounding rather friendly. But something in his tone did not sit well with Wanda at all.
"I talked to your brother, earlier," the Baron continued, "He told me he wanted to get out of his cage. I declined his wish. You know why?"
"I don't, sir," Wanda replied, truthfully.
"Because he would run," the Baron explained.
"I believe he would," Wanda agreed, keeping her voice low.
"And because you will not try to run without him," the Baron added, his voice still kind. Wanda couldn't do anything but nod in agreement. She started to feel afraid of that man. As much as she wanted to get out, she would not try to harm him. "He can't die," she told herself. "That man will come and save you", another voice in her head said. Wanda sure hoped that that was true.
"Just know, I mean you no harm as long as you do not harm me. If you are plotting against me I will make sure you will regret it. As far as I am concerned, miss Maximoff, we are from now on allies. You tell your brother that, and maybe I'll let him out of his cage. Until you can convince him not to leave my side, he remains trapped. Did I make myself clear?" the Baron asked her. Once again, Wanda could only nod. 'Does he know?' she wondered silently, 'Does he know what I have seen?'
"Yes, I understood," Wanda declared, still not facing the German, "I will talk to my brother about it. I have no intention to harm, sir. I just don't want to be locked up anymore."
Baron Von Strucker slowly walked around Wanda until he stood in front of her. He offered her his hand in order to help her up. Wanda took is, although she did not really want to.
"As long as you are on my side, my sweet child, you will never be locked up again. I promise."
