Maggie was sitting on the couch a few hours later. Jason sat in the chair by the door when there was a knock on the door.
"Who could that be?" She asked before standing up to answer the door. "Hello?" A girl with shoulder length brown hair stood in the doorway.
"Is Mike here?"
"He can't see anybody right now."
"Oh," she paused, "well, could you give this to him?" She handed Maggie a wallet. "He left it at my house. It must have fallen out of his jacket and I found it a few hours ago."
"Why don't you come inside?" She asked. "We met last night."
"Yes Mrs. Seaver," she nodded, "I'm Beth."
"Mike!" Maggie called and then smiled at her. "It's nice to see you again." Mike walked down the stairs.
"What mom?"
"Hi Mike."
"Hey Beth!" He looked at Maggie. "What's going on?"
"She brought your wallet home. And I thought we could talk about what happened."
"Mom."
"No, it's alright. I don't mind." Maggie sat down and Beth sat next to her. Mike sat across from his dad. Jason put down his book and looked at them. "I'm so sorry for getting Mike home so late."
"Late? It was the next day!"
"Jason." Beth looked between them.
"We watched a movie at my house and fell asleep. When I woke up, it was after midnight. My father sat it was too late to call your house, so I went to my bedroom and dad gave Mike a blanket."
"Is that where the blanket came from?"
"He stayed in the living room." She looked to Maggie with a shrug. "Former marine and all." Maggie looked to Jason.
"Thank you for coming by Beth."
"I told you nothing happened!"
"Come on Mike, they're your parents." He sighed.
"Do you believe me now?"
"Mike, please go upstairs."
"I'm still grounded, even after we told you what happened?"
"Michael." After hearing his full name, Mike walked up the back stairs to his room.
"I'll go." Beth said and walked out the door.
"Well?"
"Do you believe her?" Jason asked looking at Maggie.
"I want to."
"Is it the truth?"
"Maybe." She sighed and turned to the stairs. "Mike." He walked down the stairs.
"Yes?"
"I want to talk to you."
"What about?"
"Maybe we should have believed you, but you were out all night with a girl. You can see what I thought happened."
"Am I still grounded?" Maggie nodded.
"Yes, just reduced. You'll be grounded for two weeks." Mike sighed.
"Do you believe me now?" Maggie shook her head.
"It's hard to believe you when you lie so much, but maybe we'll believe you if you're going to tell the truth."
"Well I was. I didn't do what you think I did."
"Good. You can go upstairs."
"But you really do believe me?" She nodded again. "You told the truth."
"Thank you." Mike stated and walked up the stairs.
A/N: It was short, but I can't say it was really good to begin with. Not bad for a first story, but could definitely have been improved.
