Chapter 3
"Look who I found waiting for his father in the kitchen."
The Doctor was too focused on typing into the computer to realize what River was hinting at. "Why would I be in the kitchen? Oh! Breakfast." Spinning around, he strolled up to River whispering "It's my turn isn't it?" Nodding, she slipped a smirk when the Doctor responded with a peck on the cheek. "Alright Trevor!" Ushering the boy back to the kitchen. "How about some jammy dodgers and coffee?"
Giggling the boy shouted "Nooo! That's not breakfast!"
The lanky man wrinkled his nose "Good because I absolutely dislike coffee, now jammy dodgers on the other hand are no joking matter."
The Doctor lifted Trevor up and placed him on the counter, "So what'll it be today? Bread and jam? Cereal? Pancakes? Or better yet, how about and omelet? I'm good at making those!" The boy nodded and watched as his father collected random ingredients from the refrigerator and placed them on the counter.
"Daddy?"
"Yes Trevor?"
"Are you sure you know what you are doing?"
The Doctor gave the boy a grin "Positive." Shrugging his shoulders, Trevor watched as the Doctor cracked two eggs into the pan, and began stirring quickly.
"Dad?"
"Yes Trevor?"
"Where are we going?"
The Doctor added cheese into the pan and glanced at his son. "Mum and I thought it would be a good idea to pay Grandpa a visit. After all, it has been a few months since we last dropped in on him." Lowering the stove, the Doctor pulled over a stool and placed it in front of him. Trevor shimmied off the counter and hopped onto the stool. "Alright kiddo, wrap your hands around the handle and on the count of three we are going to flip this omelet." Together the father and son attempted to flip an omelet, laughing together with each failed attempt.
At a little table in the corner of the room, the duo sat, the Doctor trying to answer questions that plagued his sons young mind.
"Dad?"
The Doctor responded with a mouth full of food "mhm?"
"Can I choose where we go next?"
The Doctor grinned, "Where would that be," taking a sip of water as he waited for his son's response.
The small boy took a bite of his omelet, "Trenzalor."
The Doctor's glass slipped from his hand, smashing as it made contact with the floor, eyes wide as he stared at his son."RIVER!" he panicked, continuing to shout her name.
At the sound of the Doctors yells River set the Tardis into to autopilot running down the hall, not stopping until she reached the doorway "What! What is it? Is Trevor alright?!" Her eyes went straight to the broken glass, quickly becoming aggravated. "Sweetie, why would you give him a glass? There are plastic cups in the cupboard for a reason."
She looked at her husband, crouching down to his seated level when she noticed that his skin was paper white, "Doctor, what's the matter?"
Ignoring her question, he said in a soft voice "Trevor, tell mum what you told me. Where do you want to go?"
Trevor sunk back in his chair, "Am I in trouble?"
River stood up and moved to Trevor, picking up the small boy and placing him on her lap. "Of course not my dear. Now just tell me what you told daddy."
The boy glanced at his father and shook his head "I don't want to anger daddy."
Biting her lip she glanced at her husband who was becoming noticeably frustrated. "Trevor, I think it would be better if you told me." The boy sat tight lipped, proving that he had inherited his stubbornness from both parents.
"Trevor..." River began but was quickly interrupted.
The Doctor slammed a fist down on the table "TREVOR SAMUEL SONG, JUST TELL..." he quickly retreated "just tell your mother what you said." The Doctors outburst stung, he rarely raised his voice, and when he had it was never directed towards his family. River knew this, which is why she sent Trevor out of the room without any more questions.
"What's the matter with you? He didn't deserve that and you know damn well that it's true!" He sat with his face in his hands showing no signs of a response. "WELL?! Doctor don't you dare ignore me!" he remained silent.
River had had enough, standing up from her chair "Fine. You can stay here and I'll take Trevor to Brian's for a few days" she walked towards the door, placing a hand on his shoulder, praying for a response. As she began to move her hand away, he quickly grabbed it, holding it to his shoulder.
"Trenzalor."
River froze "What?"
Turning to look her in the eyes, he repeated "Trenzalor...that's what he had said to me."
She shook her head giving the Doctor a squeeze on the shoulder "Sometimes... I really hate you."
He watched as she walked away, then to himself he whispered "You don't."
