Chapter 4
"Grandpa!"
Brian Williams looked up from his garden, opening his arms wide.
"We'll this is a surprise! Come here and give your grandpa a hug!"
River watched her son run to her grandfather, closing the door of the Tardis behind her. Her heart dropped at the sound of the Tardis materializing with her husband still inside. Mustering up a forced smile, she walked towards the only man who could treat her like a daughter besides her father.
"Hello darling."
Brian stood up and took River into his embrace.
"River dear, it's so good to see you. Where's the Doctor?"
"The Doctor has a few things to attend to, but may drop in later."
Brian nodded.
"Come in, I can fix us some tea."
"That would be lovely Brian."
River sat at a table facing the backyard, watching Trevor run around, pointing a miniature sonic screw driver at the different plants.
"Grandpa, I'm so sorry I hadn't warned you ahead of time of our visit. To be completely honest, it wasn't entirely planned."
The man walked away from the stove, carefully pouring tea into the cups sitting on the table.
"River don't worry its fine. I love your visits. And call me Brian; it's easier for the both of us." He said with a wink.
"You seem a tad off. Is everything alright dear?"
River looked away from the window.
"To be entirely honest, I have had better days."
"Why's that?"
"Your fantastic sweetie, but I'd hate to burden you with my marital problems."
"We'll than how about a bit of advice from a man who has had his fair share of bumps in the road?"
Taking a sip of her tea she agreed.
"No marriage is perfect, not even your mum and dad's. You will have plenty more fights, some worse than others, but they will resolve themselves. Just remember that out of your marriage came a wonderful little boy."
River looked at her son, seeing the purity and kindness in his eyes as he ran through the backdoor and into the kitchen.
"Mum! Look what I found! It's the same color as the Tardis!"
Trevor placed a smooth stone in the palm of his mother's hand.
"Sweetie its beautiful! Where did you find it?"
"Under the rose-bush!"
River hesitated then decided it was best to ask Trevor about the breakfast incident.
"Sweetie, mummy is going to ask you a serious question, okay? I need you to tell the truth."
Trevor nodded.
"Sweetie, where did you hear about Trenzalor?"
Hearing the name Trenzalor quickly grabbed Brian's attention. Trevor looked at his mother like the answer was clearly obvious.
"A friend told me."
"What's your friend's name dear?"
"Clara."
River chewed her lip hoping that it was just an imaginary friend, or some human normality.
"Does this Clara have a last name?"
Trevor shrugged his shoulders.
"I don't know, but she's pretty...like you mummy but her hair is brown."
River kissed her sons forehead than suggested he played with the train Brian bought for him when he visits.
"What was that all about?"
"Nothing really. Trevor had mentioned Trenzalor to the Doctor this morning."
"And what about this Clara, who is she?"
River took another sip of her tea.
"Clara was a past companion of the Doctors, but he doesn't talk much about her. It may be a projection from the Tardis that he is seeing..."
She drifted off.
"But what if it's not a projection?"
River looked up from her tea.
"We'll then I am not sure what it could be...why do you seem so interested?"
Brian looked past River then shook his head. "No reason. Just curious that's all."
"Here let me take your cup." Standing up, she took the tea cups and brought them to the sink.
Brian staying where he was, snapped out of his trace. "So how has it been? These past four years have been quite unpredictable for you, have they not?"
River nodded." It's true but I've loved it. I'm not sure what I would do if I lost either of my boys."
"Good, that's what I thought."
River turned around confused."What?"
Brian smirked. "I said good."
Slowly moving a hand to her hip, she laid it on her gun. "What is that supposed to mean?"
A scream came from the living room, forcing her to draw her gun. "Trevor! Sweetie, what's wrong!?"
Brian Williams shook his head. "River Song you're an open book."
Ignoring him she moved towards the parlor "Trevor? Trevor where are you?" Turning back to the kitchen she gasped.
Standing in the place of her grandfather was a Zygon, and he wasn't alone.
Her gun slipped from her fingers as a figure in a suit and top hat moved forward. Several more moved out from behind the first, only these where faceless white monsters, and one was holding the motionless body of a skinny four-year old boy with floppy brown hair.
"What have you done? What have you done to my..." she collapsed to the floor as her body jolted with a shock wave.
The man stepped forward. "River Song...if you know what's best for your dear grandfather and that abomination you call your son, I suggest you relay a message to the Doctor. Tell him...Trenzalor is waiting...and this time... this time justice will be served." His deep laugh echoing through her mind as a shock sent her into darkness.
"River, River please wake up. River I am sorry, please..."
She slowly came to; the Doctor was kneeling beside her, fear plastered across his face.
Then she remembered. Grabbing his wrist, she looked him in the eyes.
"Doctor the Great Intelligence was here! They took Trevor, and they might have Brian!"
The Doctors face went stone cold.
"How?"
"There was a Zygon; it seems they are working together for the time being. But..." She hesitated.
"He wanted me to relay a message to you. He said "Trenzalor is waiting...and this time justice will be served". Doctor what do you think that means?"
He stood up, walking towards the window, staring at the dark clouds that had developed.
"It means I will suffer for all that I have done, he failed to kill me the first time, so now he is going to kill the one thing that will destroy the both of us. He is going to kill Trevor."
