Chapter 6

The Doctor quietly closed his bedroom door behind him. He had left River curled up under his tweed jacket, finally asleep. The day went from bad to worse, leaving the time travelers emotionally drained and practically numb to pain. The Doctor couldn't help but feel helpless at the thought of the day's events.

"I'm sorry Trevor." He mumbled, as he slowly made his way down the hall.

"And whys that?"

"Because…" The Doctor spun around, feeling his braces bounce on his sides.

"Is someone there?"

"Of course someone's here. I thought you were clever." The Doctor spun around again, trying to find the source of the voice. When nothing was there to meet him, he darted towards the consol room, only to stop short at the top of the stairs.

"Clara." He gasped.

Sitting on the edge of the consol was a young woman with shoulder length brown hair and a cheeky grin plastered across her face.

"Hello Doctor."

The Doctor stood in utter dismay. "But how is this possible? You...Your."

"Not dead." She hopped off the consol, walking towards the stairs.

"I can't explain how, but I can tell you that I'm not alone. There's a few others here and there, scattered about from your past…and future."

"But…" The Doctor began.

"Ah-ah-ah, Let me finish." Clara quickly interrupted.

"We like to call ourselves the guardians, because it sounds quite fancy. It seems only Trevor can see us, so in return we try to act as his guardians angels."

The Doctor quickly interjected. "If only Trevor can see your troop of guardians, how is it possible that we are talking to each other?"

The impossible girl shook her head. "There's no time to explain the details. Doctor, Trevor needs you; He's safe at the moment, but there's no time to waste."

He was clearly becoming annoyed. "Clara, I am trying the best I can." His tone becoming darker as he continued. "I don't need you to remind me of what I already know."

The tone barely fazed her. "Doctor I am only trying to help. I understand that you are conflicted with emotions but..."

At that comment The Doctor rushed down the stairs, stopping on the bottom step, standing above Clara.

"You understand that I am conflicted with emotions? YOU understand? Have you lost two children in one day? Have you had your hearts torn to shreds because you could only help one? Have you ever had to watch your wife quietly cry herself to sleep in your arms? I think not! So next time think before saying you "understand"!"

Standing her ground she stared The Doctor down. "Stop pitying yourself and go be the husband and father that you really are! Let out your emotions, than for goodness sake go save your son! He is the only one in need of saving, not River! I am sorry about the baby but you need to pull through it. River is doing it, so you need to do the same! Okay?"

Caught off guard, Clara smiled as The Doctor wrapped his arms around her.

"Clara please forgive me."

She sighed. "Stop being so hard on yourself. But you should know something."

Pulling away, The Doctor gave Clara a confused look.

"What is it?"

"Doctor, you're dreaming."

The Doctor felt a light shake.

"Sweetie, wake up."

"Dreaming huh?"

Clara nodded as she slowly materialized. "Good bye Doctor."

Everything quickly focused before the Doctors eyes. A smile spread across his face as his wife sat before him, looking better than she had earlier that day.

"Hello River." He leaned towards her, pecking her on the lips.

"Let's go save our son."
