Chapter 11

Doctor Simeon stared down at the old man kneeling before him. Despite the danger, the elderly man held a stone face.

"If you are going to kill me, do it now. Just don't hurt the boy… please."

Simeon sneered at this plea, "What makes you think that I would take your life over that abomination? Your life is meaningless to me, but who says I'm going to kill the boy? It's his mind that I want... But you would never understand with that minuscule organ that you call a brain. Ha! You humans disgust me." Sensing that someone was approaching, Simeon turned to see a soldier speeding down the dunes.

"Sir! They've found it, the tomb. It's still here."

Clapping his hands together, the man gave a ghastly grin."Wonderful. It's pleasing to see that time still has a plan for the Doctor." Turning his head to the side he smirked. "And look whose back. Take this one back to camp; I have something to attend to first."

"NO! Please don't hurt him!" Begged Brian as the solider forced him to stand, dragging him away from the shore line.

Doctor Simeon's expression darkened as he approached Trevor. Stopping in front of the child, his stiff hand made its way across Trevor's pale cheek, leaving a red imprint in its place. "Run again and it will be a bullet to the foot." The man snarled in the boys face. Straightening himself, Doctor Simeon nodded to Jack. "Take him back to camp; we leave for the tomb in an hour."

"Yes sir."

Exiting on his heel, Doctor Simeon made his way back to base.

When the top hated man was completely out of sight Jack dropped to his knees in front of the child. "Shit, you okay kid?"

Trevor ducked his head away and quietly nodded. "It doesn't even hurt anymore."

Standing up, Jack squeezed the child's shoulder and gave him a half smile. "You're a brave kid, you know that?"

"That's what mummy always said."

Trevor's answer triggered an immediate reminder as to how young he actually was, shattering the captains heart. "Hey. Don't go giving up on me now. I guarantee that they are on their way. Just a little bit longer and I'll be able to show that top hated, pompous jerk what a real bullet looks like."

"You know he's right. You can't give up yet." Clara's soothed, her soft voice acting as a security blanket, easing the child's anxiety.

Peering through his shaggy brown hair, the child looked into Jack's pale blue eyes. "What's your name?"

Checking to see that the coast was clear, the solider crouched in front of the child. "If I tell you my name, you've gotta swear not to tell anyone else. Deal?"

"Deal."

Sticking his hand out, the man smiled, "The names Captain Jack Harkness, and I give you my word when I say that I am here to help."

The boy took the large hand, gasping as searing pain struck its way through his head.

"Trevor? Hey buddy look at me, what's wrong." The child's expression froze as he looked out past the captain's shoulder.

"His brain is Time Lord intelligence is taking dominance over what little amount of human is there."

Jack's shoulders tensed to the sound of his entire alibi shattering in an instant. "Fuck" his mind screamed as he felt a barrel being pressed against the back of his head. He never thought he could possibly hate someone so much.

"Well go on. Don't let my presence interrupt." The top hated demon snickered. "Aren't you going to tell him that everything is going to be fine, that his mummy and daddy are going to save him from the big bad monster?"

Swallowing his pride, Captain Jack Harkness gave the petrified child a final reassuring glance. "Hey…Hey kiddo, look at me, think of something special don't look at the gun, okay? You can do that for me, right?"

Trevor nodded, plunging his hand into his pocket he grasped the only object that could possibly comfort him.

Ruffling the child's hair, Jack sent him a sly smile and a wink. "Oh and one more thi-"

*bang*

Everything slowed in time as Trevor squeezed his eyes shut, tightly grasping the frosted emerald glass.

He could feel his tiny body fuming with anger and fear as someone lifted him away from the collapsed body. He quickly snapped back to reality, struggling to escape the grasp of his abductor, "Noooo! Nooo! Nooooo!" His struggles didn't last long as he felt a sharp pain followed by his body going limp, his awareness slowly fading as Doctor Simeon smirked.

"Now that's enough. We need you to save your energy….enjoy your nap."

Darkness surrounded Trevor and the sea glass slipped from his grasp.
