Cautiously and carefully, her green eyes shifted from left to right to detect any suspicion of a possibility of a second attack against them. Her raven curly hair flowed within the wind as she drove as fast as possible, going directly towards Amon's palace. Gripping onto the steering wheel, Asami wanted to turn her back to observe Mako's condition but couldn't do this in the process. She didn't want to let her guard down by all means.
Bolin stood up from the passenger seat, churning around in a 360 degree while holding a pair of Sato's binoculars with both hands, he exclaimed with delight, "Wow, Asami! These Sato's binoculars are fantastic, I feel like a spy! I can clearly see distance from a far!"
Asami softy chuckled by Bolin's admiration, as she remembered the first moments of inventing a revolutionary item," Thank you. Those binoculars were a challenge to create. The idea of an invention is easy but creating one is a completely different story."
Unfortunately for Korra, a series of awkward gestures was shown in her body language since she was placed next to an unconscious prince. Due to Mako's height, he was laying down on the backseat next to Korra, as if his head was about to be placed on Korra's lap. She scooted far away as possible from Mako to the point she's at the edge of pushing the car door away. As she furiously crossed her arms, Korra pouted in annoyance while grumbling to herself, " Why out of places I have be next to such a spoiled brat?"
"How's Mako doing back there, Korra?"
Korra jolted as if she almost bounced off her seat by Asami's unexpected question, "Uhhh…let me take a look."
Korra sighed and observed at the spoiled prince. She shifted towards Mako and placed her right hand on his sweaty forward. "Mhhh?" she noticed a bit of ash on Mako's cheeks. Slowly, she began to cup Mako's cheek and began to wipe the ashes ever so gently. After that, she slowly placed her hand onto his warm chest. After facing the acts of violence and being blood bended by Amon, Mako was still unsteady yet he was breathing.
Realizing she's been touching Mako for too long, she quickly placed her hands on her lap. Nervously, Korra responded with an awkward laugh, "He's passed out. I think it's all of the chaos we have been through."
Bolin placed the Sato's binoculars down and plopped onto the passenger seat. He gave a long look at Asami with a troubled expression written all over his face, " Knowing my brother that unexpected fire attack is a painful memory." Asami bit her lips, then nodded by his response, " Yup. I was thinking the same thing too. A painful reminder."
Bolin turned towards Korra with a bright smile and a cheery tone, "You know, Korra. It's cool to meet an earth bender like you. Let alone, a cute one. Remember, you can't bend in this city. I let you off the hook though!"
"Aww thanks Bolin! That means a lot!" She smiled back at Bolin giving him a two thumbs up while Bolin did the same gesture and a wink on top of that.
"What was that painful reminder? Korra thought to herself.
Suddenly, an unconscious prince was tossing and turning, his body was clearly going through something traumatizing however he was mumbling so silently only Korra can hear his words of despair and fear. Korra placed her hands onto Mako's cheeks again with wearily eyes looking back at Asami and to Mako. Korra whispered to him, "Pssttt….you okay?"
Mako who was still passed out managed to utter a few words, "No…No…I can't loose you guys too…"
Mako's hand grabbed onto Korra's hand without even realizing his actions. His hand was soft, tight, and extremely warm.
"Must capture the Avatar…"
Immediately, Korra let go from Mako's grasp.
She didn't plan for this to happen or to even gain trust from her enemies. She then thought to herself for while that this is a brilliant plan. Gaining trust and being loyal to her enemies was the perfect plan to gain access of Amon's location and a closer tactic to rescue Tenzin and his children.
Thoughts were running in Korra's mind,"If I told them about myself being born as water bender, they will detect a clue since the next cycle for the Avatar is a water bender. I have to act like an earth bender, even though I don't look like one. I have to find Tenzin and the others before it's too late. My goal here is rescue them."
Korra scooted from Mako again, far off towards the edge of the car seat. She observed her hand till they reached the palace. She couldn't help and notice as she thought to herself, " My hand is still warm like fire."
At the palace
A crescent moon began to hover the night clouds, until a peak of moonlight sneaked through the stained glass windows of a rich but evil palace. Sitting on an antique high chair engraved with gold, Amon was scribbling some personal notes while being cozied by the nearby flickering fire in the marbled chimney. The continuous wind gave life to a dead tree as the branches began to tap the nearby window overlooking Amon.
The lieutenant can't help wonder but think about the strange encounter as he paced back and forth, thinking and observing the same flickering fire. By breaking the silence, the lieutenant asked, "That girl, Korra, is odd, sire."
Underneath a haunting mask, a smirk appeared as Amon casually replied," Indeed she is, she's the avatar."
Swiftly the lieutenant turned towards Amon, his heart almost skipped a beat, "What? I must ask, how can you be so certain?"
Amon was calmed but stern to his lieutenant's baffled reaction," Mako's statement about Korra being the Avatar made her jolt. You can read it in her nervous eyes. Besides, I trust Mako like a son. He's been hunting the Avatar for years. Plus, it would make sense for the Avatar to appear around the same time as we captured Tenzin and his children? Would it not?"
"Sire, you're not going to capture her? You're inviting an enemy like a guest to your palace? What kind of plan is this? "
" Imprisoning the air benders is a lure to capture the Avatar. Most importantly, this plan ties with an old promise. You see I did this because I want to see if my promise will truly be fulfilled in the future. If Mako kills Korra, then I can see him as the next king with safe and sound. All he has to do is gain trust from the Avatar and be her friend. "
"This is absurd! She knows you're her enemy!"
"My lieutenant, have you ever heard? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?"
Amon was right. The lieutenant didn't say a word, he trusted Amon with all of his heart and honor. Silence, not a word was spoken for a good few minutes. The wind began to howl louder as if the dead were crying and the lifeless tree scratched onto the window.
Amon made a statement, a haunting one that echoed, "Don't underestimate her."
