A/N: So, I got this idea at two thirty in the morning, and am basing it on a personal relationship I had. This will probably be a little drabble, not going anywhere, like previously mentioned relationship. As always, reviews are appreciated! Seeing as how I'm basing it on my first long distance relationship, I'm making this AU. Also, expect some OoC-ness. The characters are based on our usernames, me being Cinder and him Adam. Sorry that it's so short, it's basically a summary of the two weeks or so we were dating. There was a lot of lack of communication at the time.
~Pick up a Penny
It started out as a simple friendship. Words exchanged here and there, eventually the two seemingly falling for one another. It was Adam who initially asked Cinder out, and she said she would think about it. After all, she had been single for over two years, and happily so. She said yes, and that was the start of their relationship. More words exchanged, via social media. They had never met in person, though the way he was talking made it seem like he planned to. Eventually they moved on to voice calls, he making her feel things she hadn't felt before. She thought things would last, but he kept saying she wasn't trying. He even accused her of cheating once, and was being really clingy and overprotective. Cinder felt like she couldn't say two words to another guy without him exploding. Frankly, it was getting annoying.
"Adam, I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself. Back off," she eventually told him one day.
"Obviously you can't if you're letting him flirt with you!" came his quick reply.
"I said 'oh dear' and we didn't speak until after you brought it back up!" she was getting fed up with it. She wanted him to stop stalking her posts, let her fend for herself, and he seemed intent on being the "white knight" and protecting her. The fight continued like this, eventually Cinder going to sleep, plugging her phone in and turning away from it. The next day, they didn't speak, which was perfectly fine with Cinder, as she didn't feel like getting into another fight with him. They seemingly smoothed things over, but it was only temporarily. Eventually he started saying things like he wasn't good enough for her, and that he couldn't take life anymore. Cinder tried helping in any way she could, but one day she exploded on him. He had been talking about committing suicide the night before, and she had stayed up late to talk him out of it. The last thing she had heard from him was "goodbye" and she had fallen asleep waiting for his reply. He had let her think he was really dead for a good chunk of the day, and she eventually confronted him about it after seeing him post something. They got into it, and two days later news spread he had finally committed suicide. Cinder, having felt bad already, was made to feel even worse after receiving hate and blame from some of his closest friends. It nearly drove her to suicide, having cut for the first time the night before. She was spared having to hurt her family by finally being told the truth: he had left that site for another. It was his friends who concocted the story and did that to her.
Weeks have passed since then, and she still hasn't fully recovered, though her cuts have long since healed. She still slips into a state where she thinks about cutting, but hasn't done it since. She claims she's moved on, though seeing the nickname "babe" still makes her think of him.
