As promised, chapter 6! Hope that you enjoy it :D
After circling the same patch of forest many times over, Ciel knew he was lost. Hours of wandering with little to no progress led to an immense tiredness that crept up on the boy. Ciel decided to lay down and rest, and did so at an ancient looking, tall tree. His back to the trunk, sleep enveloped him.
"Into the forest!?" Ronald Knox exclaimed. "Campers, this is no laughing matter. We must find Ciel at once!"
Doll and Jumbo looked to Alois for direction, but then turned away. The blonde boy was smiling.
"Why do we have to?" Doll turned to Ronald. "That violent good for nothing can find his way back himself."
Jumbo nodded in agreement. Alois grimaced, and then tears began to run down his cheeks.
"Mr Knox…" he whimpered. "I know that what Ciel did was wrong, as all violence is… but I want to find him… even though he punched me."
Lizzy turned away, anger boiling through her veins. She clenched her hands into fists but then raised one up into the air. "I volunteer to find him!"
"Elizabeth! I see we have one volunteer. Anyone else?" Ronald looked at the campers gathered around him. The only boy that met his eyes was Alois.
"Mr. Knox, I'll go as well!" Alois shouted. He wiped at his face and cleared tears from his eyes. "But going into the woods might be too dangerous for a lady to handle," Alois addressed Lizzy.
"I think I can manage just fine." she replied, defiance in her tone.
"Well then, it's settled." Ronald finalized. "Elizabeth, Trancy, be sure to return before it gets dark. There is no need to notify me when you return. Just head to your respective cabins. There will be no further activities for the two of you today." Ronald turned to the rest of the campers. "I still expect a good lunch from the rest of you, though!"
A collective groan echoed through the room, followed soon by Doll and Jumbo delegating tasks to prepare lunch. Ronald left the kitchen, Alois and Lizzy following close behind. The trio reached the exit door, and Ronald pushed it open, motioning Alois and Lizzy outside. Alois stepped out first, followed soon after by Lizzy.
"Be warned, for there are devils in these woods."
Alois and Lizzy jumped and turned to the entrance way of the counselors cabin, but the door was closed and locked shut. The pair wasn't sure if what they heard had been the voice of their counselor, or some otherworldly force warning them of their future.
Alois led the way into the woods, Lizzy trailing close behind him. The pair walked in silence, searching to find the boy that had mysteriously disappeared. Although it was daytime, a thick canopy of trees blocked sunlight from reaching the forest floor. Lizzy would never admit it to Alois, but she was afraid of the dark.
"Do you see Ciel anywhere?" Lizzy asked quietly, not expecting a reply. She knew that Alois wanted to find, and then get back at, Ciel on his own- precisely the reason that she volunteered to go along with him.
To her surprise, Alois did respond. "The hell if I know," he growled. "We've been searching for so long, and this is getting tiresome. Let's split up. Then we can find him faster."
Although they had only been in the forest for about ten minutes, Lizzy recognized Alois's impatience. Even so, going off alone into a dark forest where a camper had previously gotten lost wasn't a terribly attractive idea to her.
"No… I would rathe-" Lizzy was cut off by Alois's sudden movement. The blonde boy ran off into the forest, leaves flying up in his wake.
"See ya later!" Alois tossed over his shoulder. Then he was gone, out of Lizzy's line of site. She was left alone in the dark woods, trembling.
"Finally, I got rid of that annoying girl," Alois thought to himself. Now he could find Ciel and get his revenge without the extra burden of a witness lying around. He ran quickly and silently, his feet slapping the muddy ground and leaving the indentation of his shoe print behind him.
"There are demons in these woods."
Alois paused his running and stood silently still. A voice echoed through his head- or was it spoken aloud? The blonde boy was not sure. It bounced around in his skull….
Alois shook his head twice and pinched himself in the arm, abandoning the thought. He was never afraid of darkness, like he assumed Lizzy was (part of the reason he left her on her own). But, Alois felt that the darkness in the forest was eerie. He knew that he had to find Ciel, though, so he mentally prepared himself to continue running. He looked up into the trees above him when, suddenly, he noticed it. In the nook of a tree so high above him that he had to crane his neck up to see it was the largest spiderweb he had ever laid eyes on. Each strand of the predator's trap glistened, wet, in the darkness.
The boy slowly looked away from the web, an epiphany occurring inside his mind. "Where there is a spider's web, then in addition, there must be-"
Alois whipped around, looking behind him. He was face to face with a monstrous creature that had materialized straight out of the blackness, an inch away from the tip of his nose.
Petrified, the boy whispered, "a spider."
Oh no, a cliffhanger! Whatever will Alois do? (don't ask me, I have no idea)~
Thanks for sticking with me thus far! The next chapter will include some Sebastian/Claude action. Any feedback welcomed! xD
