A/N: So, I have a lot to apologize for. Several years ago, I was young and stupid and unmotivated. I abandoned this story even though I know that a lot of you guys were into it and excited. I'm sure that most of you won't want to come back to it, but I assure you that I plan to finish it this time. I plan to update once or twice a week until this is finished. I totally deserve any anger there is from my readers, but I ask that you PM those messages to me instead of leaving them as a review so that I can handle it on a more personal level and you can review the story, not my lack of maturity. This chapter is dedicated to everyone who stuck with me and will hopefully return to finish this out. Thank you, BB.
Kazuma had left the Main House quickly after hearing of Akito's death. The dying man had promised much, but Kazuma couldn't handle seeing Kyo if the promises proved empty – not yet.
However, instead of taking a walk to clear his head as he had intended, Kazuma found himself having flashbacks to events that never occurred.
Weekly visits to Grandfather, talking with him and joking, right up until the day of his death. Mourning at the funeral when no one else would. Hating the Sohma family deeply.
The first time he heard of Kyo- the boy cursed by the cat. Though he had avoided the family for years, ever since he was old enough to leave, he could not turn his back on Kyo. By the time he heard of him, however, it was because of the whispers that the cat's curse had killed the cat's mother.
Teaching Kyo the martial arts by way of releasing the anger built up, keeping him separate from the rest of the Sohmas for fear of them treating Kyo has harshly as they had treated Grandfather. Understanding Kyo's pain.
Kyo getting expelled from school for fighting, begging Kazuma to take him away from people. Kazuma sending Kyo to Shigure's home, promising to return for him soon. He pretended not to notice his son's sorrow under the happy mask they both wore.
Coming back to find Kyo smiling at Tohru Honda, conspiring with Akito and Shigure, taking Kyo's beads. Horrified at what he had done, unable to honestly regret it, watching Tohru run after Kyo's true form.
Moving back to his dojo, leaving Kyo at Shigure's. Receiving the boy's forgiveness.
Hearing of Akito's death. Kazuma only came because Hatori mentioned that Akito wanted to see everyone that was "in the loop", and Kazuma dared not leave Kyo feeling abandoned. Not again.
Kazuma did not feel different, and events had not changed much, but he had more happy memories of Kyo, closer memories. The uneasy knowledge that he had only adopted Kyo because of guilt had subsided, replaced only with more love for his son. Kazuma remembered Akito's words and headed back to his dojo. Kyo would remember new memories and would find his Master soon enough.
