Hi! Sorry for the late update, but I had practice Friday night and Saturday morning so I've been wiped. Anyway, here's Momiji's chapter! Reviews are life.
Momiji waited in the sitting area at first, unsure if he should go with Hatori or not. Everyone seemed to be in a daze since Akito's death, and Momiji was no exception. He did not snap back into reality until a gentle hand rested itself on his shoulder.
"Hey, you ready to go, little guy? Ha'ri said he'd meet us there," a kind voice said softly. Momiji started and looked up, his golden eyes widening when he took in the fact that it was Kana – Hatori's Kana – who stood there, holding a little girl in her arms.
"Uh…" Momiji said, "S-sure!" Hadn't Akito said that he lived with Hatori and Kana? Maybe it was all coming true.
Momiji took Kana's hand and left the building, only to freeze in surprise.
"You understand why you have to live with Hatori,"Papa had said to little Momiji, "Mama loves you but she can't… She can't care for you when you change like that. But I'll love you twice as much for her. Hatori and Kana can take good care of you, okay?"
Momiji agreeing, unable to bear his mother as unhappy as she was. Kana was always kind and would hug him even though he turned into a rabbit, and Hatori was kind even though he was sometimes gruff.
Kana's pregnancy, Momiji running away, terrified that he wouldn't be able to stay with Ha'ri anymore. He'd run clear across the Sohma estate only to bump into Shigure's sister, Maki. Maki and Kana had been friends as long as Momiji could remember, so it didn't take long for Kana and Hatori to find him and soothe his fears.
Kiri's birth, not long after Momo's, and Momiji caring deeply for his two baby sisters. Momo wasn't a member of the zodiac, so Mama kept her. For some reason, this didn't make Momiji as sad as he would have thought; he had a new family and Kiri was just as cute as Momo, though it different ways.
Meeting Tohru, and enjoying showing off Kiri when Hatori invited Tohru over for the first time. He told the story of how Hatori had been hurt, but ended with how happy everyone was when Kana stayed anyway. Kana talking with Tohru around the corner quietly, even though he knew what was being said.
Tohru running into Mama and Momo at work. "I see you've met my… You've met Momiji," Mama had said tightly, "This is Momo, my daughter. Momiji, you should be getting home to Hatori. He'll be worried. We're running late, so…" without allowing either of them to get a word in edgewise, Mama had scurried off, clutching Momo to her side. Tohru had cried with the rabbit later, and Momiji was reminded why he didn't mind how things were. After all, without the whole mess with Mama, he wouldn't have Hatori or Kana or Kiri or even Tohru!
Kiri starting preschool with Momo, everyone realizing that Momo would have to be told of the zodiac curse. Avoiding bringing it up around Akito.
Getting the call that Akito was dying. Hatori had told Kana to wait, that he would bring Kiri and Momiji. After the accident, no one trusted Kana around Akito, especially not Hatori.
"Hey, you okay?" Kana asked, squeezing Momiji's hand. Momiji looked up at his foster mother and nodded slowly. The whirl wind of new memories subsided, and he relaxed into Kana's grip.
"Let's go home," he said happily. Kana smiled and set down Kiri, who immediately ran to hold Momiji's other hand. The three of them walked home like that, and Momiji wondered what else had happened in Akito's rooms.
