"I heard it's bad luck in the Earth Kingdom to see the bride in her dress before the wedding day," Ty Lee said slowly and thoughtfully, clamping her hands over her bare breasts.
"I'm not looking at the dress," Azula purred with a small smirk. Ty Lee blushed light pink as she glanced over her shoulder at the royal dressmaker and let her hands slip just a little bit. Azula's smirk grew slightly before the old woman turned back to the girls and adjusted her glasses.
Ty Lee looked through the many dresses, stroking the fabric with her slender fingers. None of them were quite right and it was becoming immensely frustrating. Azula was putting far less effort into it, from simply waving along the cake samples in boredom and just going with the traditional royal flower arrangements... Ty Lee had the feeling that she did not care about the wedding at all.
The acrobat hated herself for being so annoyed by it. She should be beyond happy that Azula was marrying her in the first place, not miserable that Azula was not as enthused of her. But Ty Lee had dreamt of her wedding since she was a child, even when she was told she would never marry someone she loved.
And now she was fortunate enough to be marrying someone she loved, and being in a royal wedding. A royal wedding. Yet, still, she felt ungrateful. Azula did not seem to notice, picking cake crumbs out of her long, sharp nails.
She finishes being fitted into a variety of dresses, and follows Azula outside.
"Do you want to get something to eat?" Ty Lee gestured at the endless rows of street vendors. This part of town was charming and Ty Lee was enamored with it, but not quite as enamored as she was with Azula.
"Mm," Azula offered in assent, and they set out to find some street noodles and fancy fruit drinks.
"Do you remember the Upper Ring?" Ty Lee asked. "The night before the coup?"
Azula looked around. She supposed that this section of Caldera did remind her of that night in Ba Sing Se, if ever so slightly.
"And you said once I conquered the world you'd always be around to take me shopping," Azula remarked, remembering the night fondly. It was not so fond when she was actually there, but it was a nice memory. And Azula had so few nice memories.
"You'd be Fire Lord and I'd be Queen of Buyer's Remorse. But I think we'll be Princesses Azula and Ty Lee of the Fire Nation, which is good enough for me," Ty Lee said brightly, slurping one of her noodles. Azula looked away, not wanting to get too attached.
"I... might be okay with that," Azula admitted, although it felt humiliating to say. Her father always told her that nothing in life mattered but being Fire Lord.
Yet, Azula decided that something else mattered. This girl beside her who was trying to pick out a new stuffed animal, despite being well into her twenties. It brought a tiny smirk to Azula's lips that she quickly wiped from her face as soon as Ty Lee looked back at her.
Azula pecked Ty Lee on the lips, a fast kiss that meant nothing to Ty Lee, but meant everything to Azula.
