Chapter 26

"You are not going to put EJ in the back of a squad car," were the first words out of Sami's mouth after they had walked out of the house. Her father and uncle may have prevented her from reaching out to what appeared to be a very confused and disoriented EJ, but they weren't going to keep him from her.

"I knew we shouldn't have let her come with us," Bo commented to his brother Roman.

"Like you could have stopped me," Sami told them as she finally moved past her father and uncle so that she could touch EJ. "I don't know what you think EJ has done…"

Roman eyed EJ with disgust, wanting his daughter to have nothing to do with this scum. From the looks of it, EJ was definitely the one who assaulted Nicole tonight. "Sami, you need to move away from EJ."

"I won't do it," Sami took one of EJ's hands within her own clasping it tightly. "You can't make me Daddy."

"For god's sake Sami, look at him, does EJ look like he has been here all by his lonesome tonight?"

Sami looked to EJ, completely ignoring her father, "What happened honey? What's going on?"

"I don't know Samantha," EJ replied, still in a bit of a daze.

"Well you better start talking," Bo interjected as he placed a hand on one of Sami's arms trying to tug her away from EJ.

Sami refused to release EJ's hand, they weren't going to separate them. "If you want to question EJ…"

"We're going to question him. Did you not see the mess in the house? Something went down here tonight. Something bad and this man is responsible."

"Always guilty until proven innocent, that's the Salem PD's motto." EJ muttered out before he thought better of it.

"Well if the shoe fits," Bo began, "and you look guilty as hell DiMera."

Even though EJ knew something was terribly wrong; he honestly didn't know what had happened. "Guilty of what Bo? I have no freaking idea what you and Roman think I did tonight."

Roman couldn't stand this, EJ DiMera knew what he had done, he was sure of it. "Come on EJ, don't play dumb with us. You're usually on top of your game, but tonight you've slipped up and we've got you dead to rights."

"Once again, what do you think I have done?" EJ asked his anger rising as the two brothers in law enforcement once again was ganging up on him thinking the worst of him just because of his last name.

Neither brother would answer him, EJ could feel his frustration growing, but knew he needed to keep from getting upset. If he lost his temper it would only make things worse for him.

"I'm reading him his rights," Bo said, not wanting to prolong this any further because unless they did, it would be one more loophole for DiMera to escape from facing justice.

"Go ahead," Roman agreed because if they didn't he was afraid his daughter was going to go ballistic on them both since they wouldn't tell either one of them what had happened. "EJ DiMera, you are under arrest for the brutal physical assault of Nicole Walker Kiriakis tonight."

Sami and EJ looked at one another, surely this wasn't true.

Bo sauntered over to where EJ was standing with Sami and began speaking, "EJ DiMera, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense."

"Cuff him," Roman stated offhandedly to Bo.

"With pleasure," Bo reached for his handcuffs ready to shackle EJ.

"Sami move away from EJ," her father warned her, but she wouldn't let EJ's hand go.

"No," Sami said stubbornly.

"Samantha, let me go."EJ said quietly.

Sami looked at EJ, "EJ, I can't."

"They are going to take me in for questioning for something they think I've done. I don't need for them to haul you into the police precinct too for obstruction."

"Don't say anything to them. I'm calling Mickey," Sami reluctantly let EJ's hand go from hers.

"If Mickey's got any sense he won't take your case, but hey to each his own," Bo tightened the cuffs on EJ, just for good measure. He didn't want this bastard trying to escape. "Now we are putting you in the back of the squad car DiMera."

At that moment Sami wanted nothing more than to wipe that smirk off of her uncle's face, but EJ was right, she needed to keep her cool, it wouldn't do for both of them to be locked up tonight. She had to give him a hug before they took them away from her. She threw her arms around EJ's neck wishing he could hug her back, but he couldn't with his hands behind his back in handcuffs. "Not a word to them EJ…"

"I won't," EJ promised whispering in her ear as Bo immediately pulled Sami away from him.

"Let go of me Uncle Bo," Sami said with gritted teeth as she tried to shrug his hold off of her.

"Move away from the suspect Sami," Bo kept his hand on her arm to prevent her from touching EJ again.

"I'll be right behind you."

"My car keys should be on the table by the front door," was all EJ could say to her as Roman began to lead him away from her.

Sami turned to go to the house to retrieve EJ's car keys, but Bo stepped in her way. "You can't go back into the house."

"Why the hell not?" Sami asked beyond irritated by the way Bo and Roman were treating EJ.

"It's a crime scene Sami," Bo answered.

"It's my house," Sami stated on the verge of tears, the reality of the situation starting to hit her, they really thought EJ was guilty.

"You can ride with me to the station," Bo offered up to her.

"I don't want to ride with you," Sami stated heatedly as she looked over to where her father was manhandling EJ into the back of a police squad car.

"Either ride with me or walk, but you can't go back into the house until the crime scene investigators are finished."

Sami wanted to hit Bo, sometimes he was such a jackass, but if he wasn't going to let her back into the house, she had no other choice. Although she wasn't going to play nice and speak with him on the ride over there, so without saying another word she angrily strode over to Bo's car and got in, slamming the door behind her.

Bo got into the driver's seat, "Sami, I'm sorry."

"No, you're not," Sami shook her head and looked out of window as her uncle began to drive to the police station. She willed herself not to cry, she didn't know what had taken place at her house or what was going to be her new house tonight, but she wasn't going to believe the worst about EJ. This was all some terrible mistake and she'd be by EJ's side no matter what they said about him.

They hadn't come this far for them to be torn apart now. They just hadn't…
