Hey everyone! It looks like I might actually finish by the midseason premier! *knocks on wood* I love reading all your comments, so please, continue to leave them! Enjoy!
May, followed by Coulson and Mack, marched into Ward's room.
Ward sat straight up in his hospital bed. "Is Skye alright?" he asked, panic evident in his voice. "I heard her screaming…what happened?"
"It's time for you to be leaving us" May stated, ignoring his questions. "We've just landed on a nice little island off the coast of Africa where you'll be spending the next few years or so."
"So you've just saved my life, and are going to abandon me to die on some island in the middle of the ocean? You could've just let me bleed out."
"Don't make us reconsider" Coulson snapped. "We could shoot you right now."
Ward held his hands up in mock-defense. "Alright, alright. Let's go then."
He made to get up from the bed, but Mack blocked his way, pinning Ward to the bed.
"I think you're forgetting something," May said. She pulled out a syringe-like device with a silver liquid in it.
Ward frowned, and was about to protest, when Coulson cut in. "May, what is that?"
"It's a tracker," she said simply, avoiding Coulson's eyes. "I had Fitzsimmons liquefy it, so Ward won't be able to remove it from his body…it'll be in his bloodstream."
"Good idea" Coulson replied, as May stuck the needle into Ward's arm, and Ward grimaced in pain. Coulson was reassured by May's explanation, but why did he still have the feeling she was concealing something from him?
Ward glared at May, "I think you're bluffing," he growled, "There's no way you would let Sk–" he broke off, gasping for air, as May punched him in the throat before glancing nervously at Coulson, who looked perplexed at the exchange.
"May," Coulson began, "What is he talking about?"
"Nothing." May said curtly, her eyes shooting daggers at Ward.
Ward looked at May with a look of surprise: Coulson doesn't know, he thought with a sense of grim amusement, Now this could be interesting.
May noticed the triumphant look in Ward's eyes, and swore under her breath. She turned abruptly to Mack, saying "Go get Skye and Fitz. Tell Fitz to bring the…device. He'll know what you mean."
After he left the room, she turned towards Coulson, though she still wouldn't make eye contact with him. "Coulson, go find Bobbi and Hunter. Ask them where their daughter is…I overheard them saying they wanted to visit her. That can be our next stop."
"Can't that wait?" Coulson asked suspiciously, "What's going on, May?"
"Just do it, please," May pleaded. "I'll explain later. I need to have a private talk with Agent Ward."
Coulson sighed angrily, but left the room.
May bent down close to Ward. "Don't you dare say anything to Coulson, do you understand?" Ward didn't say anything, so May shoved her fingers into Ward's stomach. He howled in pain, clutching his abdomen.
"F-fine" Ward gasped. "But you're going to do something for me in return."
May raised her eyebrows. "You're not in a great position to be making deals" she said coldly. "I could still shoot you."
"Okay," Ward replied calmly. "You know, Agent May, I really think we have a lot in common."
May stepped towards him, ready to strike him, but the door opened, revealing Fitz and Skye.
"I'm ready" Skye said in an indifferent voice, though she was trembling slightly.
"Stop!" Ward yelled, as Fitz moved to inject Skye with the probe containing the miniscule bomb. "Won't the sensor go off since she's so close to me?"
"The serum we gave you will take an hour to fully enter your bloodstream to the point where it will become active. By that point, we'll be gone" May replied. She nodded towards Fitz, who with shaking hands, injected the device into Skye's arm.
She bit her lip to prevent from crying out in pain as she felt the large needle pierce her arm. May turned to Ward, who was staring at Skye with a look of pure sadness on his face. "Still think we're bluffing?" she asked.
Ward shook his head. "No," he whispered.
"Good," May said. "Skye, Fitz, thank you. You are good to go."
They both nodded, and made to leave the room. "Wait!" Ward cried, and Skye paused at the door. "Skye, please, look at me."
Slowly, Skye turned around and looked her former S.O. straight in the eyes. Her face betrayed no emotion as Ward searched her gaze. "Skye," he pleaded, "Please, don't let them do this. I can be on your side…I can help you".
"It's far too late for that," May cut in. "You've both been injected with your respective serums. You will never see her again."
"Could I have just one moment alone with Skye?" Ward asked. "Please. Just one minute."
May rolled her eyes, and was about to tell him no, but Skye held up her hand. "It's fine, May. Besides, I think this is one of those situations that you said would be good practice for me."
"Okay," May replied. She was proud of her student's strength, but was worried about her spending even a moment longer with Ward than necessary. "One minute," she confirmed as she closed the door behind her.
