Only one more chapter, guys! Enjoy!
"May!" The Asian agent paused before turning around slowly to face Coulson. "Do you want to tell me what the hell all that was about?" Coulson asked angrily.
May looked up at the ceiling, as if praying for patience. "It's nothing, Coulson" she said flatly.
"I know you're lying," he replied. "What was Ward about to say that made you hit him? Something about a bluff…"
"Please, Phil. Just let it go." May pleaded. "There's nothing you can do about it now, and hopefully it'll never be a problem. Trust me, it's not something you want to know about. I've got it under control."
Coulson looked at her carefully. "I trust you," he said slowly. "Please don't make me regret it. If this secret puts the team in any danger, I'll –"
"Er, Coulson? Sir?"
"What?" Coulson snapped, then softened slightly when he turned around to see Fitz, with a tearful Simmons standing slightly behind him. "What's up, guys?" he asked in a more gentle voice.
"S-Simmons was wondering if after we drop off Bobbi and Hunter to see their daughter, we could make a trip to see Peggy Carter's funeral. Apparently, it's only an hour's drive away."
Coulson smiled at the young pair. "Of course," he said, looking sympathetically at the two scientists. It's the least I can do, after everything they've been through the past few days. His smile widened when he thought to himself, maybe Captain America will be there!
"Thank you," Simmons said softly.
May knocked on the door to Bobbi's room, before entering slowly. Bobbi and Hunter were sitting on Bobbi's bed, Bobbi looking happy, and Hunter looking terrified.
"We'll be landing in five" May told them, and hid a smirk as she watched Hunter's face grow pale. He got off the bed, and started pacing around the room.
"Thanks, May" Bobbi said. May nodded and left the room.
"Hunter," Bobbi began gently. The Brit continued to pace around the room. "Lance!"
He stopped suddenly, and spun to face Bobbi, with a look of panic in his eyes. "What if she hates me?" he croaked. He clenched his fists, "I can see it now, little Alex Morse, who won't want to love her own father."
"It's Alex Hunter, actually" Bobbi said quietly.
Hunter gaped at her. "What?"
"I wanted her to be connected with you," she explained. Seeing his emotional expression, she added hastily, "And with my job, it was safer for her not to share my name."
"Ah, yes" Hunter said, clearing his throat, "That makes sense." He resumed pacing around the room, but with a slightly more relaxed expression.
"Lance," Bobbi said gently, "It'll be fine, I promise. She's going to lo–"
"Hey," came Skye's voice from the doorway. "We're here."
"Oh, God." Hunter whimpered. Bobbi elbowed him in the stomach, muttering "man up", but then took his hand, and walked out of their room.
When they got to the door of the bus, Bobbi looked outside, then rolled her eyes, laughing. "Really, May?" she said under her breath. "You had to land outside the front door?"
The stepped outside to see terrified young woman, holding the hand of a blond toddler.
"Mommy!" the child squealed, and ran to hug Bobbi. Smiling at her daughter, Bobbi let go of Hunter's hand to embrace her daughter. She picked up the little girl, and turned her toward Hunter, who was looking at the child with a longing expression on his face.
"Allie, sweetheart, say hi to Lance." Bobbi said happily.
"Hi!" the toddler chirped.
"Well she's not very shy, is she?" Hunter asked dryly, trying not to look nervous. "Guess she gets that from you."
"Lance is my daddy's name!" Alex piped up, looking curiously at Hunter. "You have the same name!"
"That's because I am him," Hunter said softly, tentatively reaching his hand out to touch one of Alex's curls. The little girl looked at him, a bright smile appearing on her face. She threw her arms around his neck, and happily told Bobbi.
"Mommy, I have a Daddy now!"
"Yeah, baby" Bobbi replied, tears running down her cheeks. "You always did."
Skye, who had been watching from the door to the bus, walked back inside with a smile on her face. The team had finally gotten rid of Ward, and now Bobbi and Hunter's family had been reunited. It was turning out to be a great day. Now I have to get ready for a funeral she thought to herself. At least Agent Carter lived a long, full life, so her funeral will be more of a celebration of her life. And hey, maybe Captain America will be there!
Seeing that Hunter and Alex were getting along just fine, Bobbi turned to the babysitter, an attractive brunette of about 30 years of age. She had been standing at a polite distance, smiling at the family's reunion.
"Sorry about the plane," Bobbi said casually. "Didn't mean to frighten you."
"No worries," the woman replied, grinning easily at Bobbi. "Your daughter is a great kid."
"Thanks," Bobbi looked closely at the young woman. Something about her posture and facial structure seemed very familiar, but the cheerful smile was throwing her off. "Um, I don't have any cash on me…will you take a check?"
"Sure," the woman replied.
"Okay" Bobbi pulled out a pen. "What's your name?"
"Chloe" the brunette replied, her brown eyes twinkling, "Chloe Wa–"
BOOM
The house behind her exploded, throwing all four people off their feet. Chloe screamed, covering her head with her hands as Bobbi threw herself on top of Hunter and Alex.
The last thing they heard before blacking out was an inhuman hiss, coming from the wreckage behind them.
