After many days of sailing, Captain Teague and crew decide to dock at a nearby island, the scarcely populated island of Bahre. Most of the crew, along with the captain, decide to trash in the local bar, while a few other stay on the ship for maintenance. Young Jack is snoring loudly in his hammock, taking the chance as the dimly lit crew quarters are empty.
"Jack!" Alastia shouts as she jumps into the hammock, Jack wakes up in shock as the hammock swings around and feels the weight of Alastia on his legs.
"Wha is it?" Jack yawns as he rubs his eyes awake and then looks lazily at her.
"That you're sleepin' instead of adventurin'. I wanna see the island." Alastia says, her lovely brown eyes alit with excitement. Jack yawns again and brushes his hair into place.
"Then go ahead, lass. I won't stop ya." He tells her and lays his head back down. Alastia pouts.
"I want you t' come with me. If not, guess i'll jus' sit here." Alastia gets comfy as she sits on Jacks legs, trying to put as much pressure on them as possible. And after a moment of silence, Jack sighs and gives up.
"Okay, you win, but I can't go anywhere if I can't feel my legs." He complains, and she victoriously jumps of his hammock. Jack sits up and crawls out of it, he straps in his sandals and looks at Alastia with tired eyes. She was wearing a white cotton shirt tucked into her velvet linen pants, while Jack was wearing about the same except for the brown linen shorts. She takes his arms, pulling him out of the room and to the busy deck.
"Oh, well well well, if it ain't th' lovebirds. Mornin' to ya." Creed stops short with the deck brush in front of the two.
"Not now, mate." Jack reluctantly says, rubbing his face while his eyes adjust to the bright morning sun.
"Not t' worry. I have capt'ns orders for the kids. Underside of th' ships got some nasty barnacles, he wants ya to scrape them off." Creed points to Alastia.
"The cap'in wants me t' do that, an not one of you lot?" Alastia questions with a raised brow.
"Capt'ns orders, I can't go against'em." He shrugs off.
"And for Jackie, you've got gunpowder to get from one of th' locals. Capt'in already paid for'em."
"I hav' to carry back barrels of powder from there t' th' ship?" Jack couldn't help but think his father was crazy with these orders today.
"Aye, do what ya like, but I did my job an' I'm not gonna get yelled at." Creed continues to brush the floorboards and leave the pair.
"So much for seein' th' town..." Alastia says sadly.
"No to worry. If we get things done fast, we'll have time." Jack assures her.
"If ya say so. Well, go on and hurry then, I havta get ready." Alastia nudges at Jack, which makes him run off the ship and into town.
(line/page break)
"OUT! THIEF!" Jack burst out the door and scurries off as a large women whacks him once more with a broom over his head. He makes a sharp turn into an alleyway and hides, trying to catch his breath.
"And don't come back! Lousy brat..." The women grumbles as she walks back to her store. Jack is covered in gun powder and tries to pat himself clean.
"What in th' world? I was suppose to pick up the powder supplies, Capt'in shoulda paid already." Jack said to himself.
"Ugh whata waste of time, guess it's back to th' ship..." Jack takes the long walk back to the ship. Once he climbs aboard, he spots a group of crew laughing loudly about something.
"Watcha lot laughin' about?" Jack directs toward the group.
"Aw Jackie, ya shoulda seen it." One burly man tells.
"The poor lass didn't even see it comin'. I wouldn't even put a price on the look on her face." A scrawny man chuckles.
"Lass? What happened?" Jacks tone starts to go serious.
"Oh, Jackie! What took ya?" Creed steps up to Jack.
"A big waste a time, thats what. Now tell me what's this all about? An' where's Alastia?" Jack presses him.
"Ya just missed'er. She went into town after we pulled a fast one on'er."
"Pulled a fast one? What'd you do...?" Jack grabs Creeds collar with both hands.
"Aye aye, why th' hostility, mate? I'm sure shes havin' her own laugh as we speak. B'sides, alls we did was give'er a specially made wetsuit, she just put it on without knowin' how it looked. We were jus' havin' our laugh with her."
"So ya embarrassed her in front of th' crew, an' she ran off, prolly cryin', an' now, ya think she's laughin' about it? Ya must have a small mind, or ya jewels are pretty big down there. Ill make sure t' come back fer ya later, Creed..." Jack threatens as he runs off into town In search for Alastia.
"Where do I even start lookin'? It's already gettin' dark." Jack asked himself, the sun starting to set and the sky growing dark blue.
"Aye, didja hear 'bout some weird thing that ran through here?" A common man said as he walked with another man.
"I hear ya, crazy story, some ugly creature just runnin' about and in t' the forest."
"Jus' shows that this islands got some juicy secrets somewhere..." Their voices fade away as they walk away from Jack. He thought how cool that probably was, but can it be related to Alastia? Maybe she saw it and ran after it? Jack has already searched the whole town, and doesn't really have any more leads. He shrugs before going for the forrest outside of town.
About an hour passes, and Jack has whacked about every tall bush in search for Alastia or this creature thing, still coming up unsuccessful.
"Bloody hell, I'm runnin' ragged here and nothin'. Just my luck..." Jack kicks up dirt in frustration before finding a spot under a tree to sit. He ponders for a minute about today's events, why can't he just have a normal day? As he sighs, he can faintly here weeping and sniffling. Jack looks left and right for the source, searching bushes, climbing down a mossy cliff into a group of trees.
"Someone there?" Jack calls out, the sulking sounding as close as possible.
"Go awahy!" A frill voice says with a hiccup. Jack looks behind a tree and is completely caught off guard from what he sees. Alastia sitting on the ground, in her undergarments, white skimpy bloomers and a tattered cloth bra, as well as large fishing boots. She gasps when she looks up and sees Jack. She takes off one of her boots and throws it at him, and then proceeds to do the same with the other.
"Whoa, I'm not armed, I'm not armed!" Jack tells her, taking a boot to the head and one to the stomach. Alastia turns away and covers her face, trying to wipe off any tears.
"Wot happened Alastia? Why are ya cryin'? An' how'd you end up like this?" Jack asks, putting a hand on her shoulder.
She remains silent and pushes away from his hand. Jack is not good when it comes to digging into a women's feeling, he felt unsure on how to continue. He sits besides her, in what felt like a cove of leaves and twigs. Jacks mouth opens, trying to form another question but instead closes it back up, while Alastia remains quiet, only sniffling every so often. A thought popped into Jacks head, something he heard his father say once to a women that quickly made her giggle.
"I mus' be huntin' for treasure, 'cause I like your chest." He said in a deep tone, copying his father. Alastia gasps, turns to him, and slaps he right across the face.
"What wassat for!?" Jack asks, covering his red cheek, although he remembered at that moment that the women his father used that on was a drunken broad. She turned back around, staying quiet.
"Jus' tell me wots the matter... What did they do to ya?" He questions.
"I went t' Creed since I was ready t' clean the underside... So he told me 'bout this suit that'll help me clean faster." Alastia extends her arm and points a finger toward this black heap of rubber and cloth.
"Th' heck is that?" Jack can't even make out the shape of it.
"It was like a big suit, had t' climb in it... but th' rubber inside was t' hot for me in m'clothes."
"So ya stripped?" He asked, she nods.
"They all laughed when I left th' room... An' took my clothes so I wouldn't change back. The suit was t' stiff for me to move right, i couldn't fight back."
"An' ya ran away?" She gives another nod.
"Well, atleas' they didn't get the pleasure of see in' ya in your breeches... Foul bastards..." Jack swore quietly. Alastia gives a depressing sigh, covering her face With her hands.
"We'll get back at'em. No one plays dirty betta' than me." Jack puts a hand on her thigh, looking at her assuringly. Alastia uncovers her face and looks at his determined dark eyes.
"Ok." She tells him and holds on to his hand.
"Firstly, we needs t' get ya back to the ship." Jack stands up and takes his shirt off, showing his lean tan abdomen, handing it to her.
"We can't run back t' the ship when yer half naked." He chuckles as she puts on his shirt, feeling his warmth fade into her cold skin. Luckily, the shirt was long enough to cover most of her thighs.
"I'll talk with those cheatin' idiots, get yer clothes back, and we can hit the town. Find ya some better clothes." Although he said 'find', he meant 'steal', and Alastia grew excited because she knows Jack better than anyone.
"T'morrow we form an' ready our plan to get back at them." He said confidently.
"... Thank you, Jack." She embarrassingly says, not happy about showing her weak side to him yet again, but grateful for his support. Jack takes her hand and they run into town. They get back to the ship, and after a long, intimidating, and threatening discussion between Jack and the crew, they're off into town once again. They spend the night looking at exotic clothes and jewelry from merchants, and getting chased around town for stealing them.
Jack thought back sadly at the memory, even though it was only last week.
He looked down at Alastia's sleeping figure, his note left under her hand. The darkness in the room caused by the candle extinguished and the midnight night outside.
He was leaving. For good.
He couldn't stand living on father's ship anymore, and after that last battle with the redcoats he didn't want to be a pirate anymore.
It was dark inside the cabin, and the only light shimmering from the port window was blocked by Jack's silhouette.
He took off his hat, Alastia's hat, and set it by her hammock.
You never really stole it back 'lastia.
He walked out of the cabin out onto the deck to the railing, his longboat and food and posessions waiting for him in the dark sea below.
And without a backwards glance, Jack jumped into the sea.
