Ash knows Paul has a boyfriend now. He's seen them together loads of times, when they're on dates, when they train together, he's even seen them kiss before.
And boy does he hate it.
Paul, the jerk who used to work Chimchar like a slave is a completely different person when he's around that redhead-What was his name again? Silver? He actually laughs and smiles. He actually cares about Silver's wellbeing, tells him he loves him and that he'll protect him, and a load of other mushy stuff. Paul's feelings for Silver can't be real, right? He'll just toss Silver away when he gets bored of their relationship, when Silver has outlived his usefulness, just like Chimchar, and Azumarill…
But that's just how Ash copes with the fact he loves Paul. He is so madly in love with him, and the fact he loves someone else is tearing Ash apart.
And in the most malicious corner of his mind, he hopes Paul will hurry up and break Silver's heart…So he can break his next.
